Smile Kaisercraft stamps..problems..pls help

Hi I purchased a set of Kaisercraft clear stamps off ebay, I was so excited to try them out today but when I did I am very disappointed. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong..but I have had no issues with other brands of clear stamps or my ink as I use a good quality ink. The ink doesn't seem to want to "cling" to the polymer and then when I stamp it smudges. I cleaned the stamp well using both a stamp cleaner and a baby wipe and all the stamps in the set are doing this..is there anything I can try? I love this stamp set and want to be able to use it..thank you!

Certain brands of clear stamps (Inkadinkado, Studio G, Martha Stewart are a few examples that come to mind) don't like dye ink very much. The kinds of ink that work well with these types of stamps are Vivid, Versamark, Chalk inks, Memento, and I'm sure someone else will chime in with some more brands. If you don't have any of those you can get by using your dye inks by stamping in Versamark first, then in your dye ink. The Versamark helps it 'stick' to the polymer better. HTH.

Katarina has it right.

There are generally two different types of "Clear Stamps" on the market, Photopolymer and Silicone. And they are not the same thing.

Photopolymer has been around for awhile as a stamp material and silicone is a newer material.

Photopolymer takes ink much better than silicone. (Pigment and Hybrid ink, being the best)

Silicone, by its very nature repels dye ink, which contain a higher water content.

How can you tell which is which? Smell it. Photopolymer tends to have a sweet smell.

I am so glad you asked this! I had some clear stamps that I was planning to get rid of because I was never able to get them to stamp "right." I will give them another try with the inks suggested by Katarina.

Try rubbing an eraser over your stamps first. I find that this removes the manufacturing 'residue' and does help the ink to cling to the stamps better. Good Luck!

You can also try the little Studio G ink cubes. Michaels carries them and some Walmarts are now carrying some of the Studio G line as well. They work very well with clear stamps - especially the little cheapy one's from Michaels. I think they are a hybrid ink because they dry really quick (a lot quicker than a pigment ink - sometimes pigment inks just don't dry at all). If you don't like them, then its not a big investment (they're probably still $1 at Michaels in the US - they're $1.50 in Michaels in Canada).

If you have them, Marvy dye inks work well, too. Their water content is not as high.

If you have a Pigment like Brilliance or a Hybrid like Versafine, these work really well, too. Though they take a little while to dry.

This is strange, because I love Kaiser stamps, and have never had any sort of problems with them...

I was gifted a lovely set of Kaiser stamps and had the same issue. I'll have to try these tips. I was using Memento, so I might have to try something else!!

I have a couple of Kaiser stamps and they are indeed silicone. I don't usually buy these because they are lower quality, but they stamp very nicely with the inks mentioned and I've also had good results with Tim Holtz distress inks! The latest post on my blog uses a Kaiser stamp (the angel) with the distress inks to show you how it stamps.. It's not the cleanest impression, but it's pretty good!

These are the inks I use and I LOVE them! I got so frustrated with all of my other inks that this is pretty much all I have left.
