Just Venting

I cant believe how many times I click on a card in a gallery and find that it has been fave'd and NO COMMENTS or there are views and NO COMMENTS... If you take the time to click and wait for it to load and then Click to fave it, WHY CANT YOU JUST LEAVE A "TFS" at the least... WHY did you fave it???

All of us card makers love to see comments on our cards and can learn from comments left! It feeds the need people...There is ALWAYS something you can say about someones card whether they are as "good" as you at making cards or not, quit being rude people, that is what it boils down to, RUDENESS!!!!

BE KIND TO YOUR FELLOW CARD MAKERS AND LEAVE A COMMENT!!!!!

OK, hopping off my soap box now, I now return you to your regularly scheduled browsing....

Bad day? Anyway, I think that having your card put in someone's "favorites" should be enough of an ego stroke for most people. If you are looking for constructive criticism about a certain technique that you tried, perhaps start a topic in this forum and provide a link to the card. Otherwise, you can't really get mad for someone liking your card enough to "fave" it.

I almost never leave comments on the cards I favorite. I never realized it was rude to do so. I am not even thinking about the card maker when I do it. I am looking for specific ideas, techniques, color combos , etc that will inspire me later on. I don't have much time to get on here as it is, so just browsing the gallery and choosing a few favorites here and there is about all I do. I don't think you should take it so personally. I know I am definitely not trying to offend anyone with my lack of comments. I doubt most others are, either.

Thanks Amy for leaving a comment... LOL

It is not just ME that I am talking about, I have several that have tons and several that have squat, so be it, the fact that I can fave a card I post, Into my faves, love the color combo or WHATEVER is the reason is all it takes...

Nothing personal was intended in my post and nothing personal was taken in your response...

I almost never leave comments, and no, I do not think it is particularly rude--- I have limited time and I'd rather see designs than echo the 42nd comment of "looks great!". I favorite stuff so I can CASE it: if I do not favorite it, I do not know to whom to give the credit (which I always try to do).

Speaking of favorites, it takes forever to delete a favorited card-- I've had some in my file for years now because it takes so long to sit there and delete each one manually (and wait for it to happen). Am I missing an easier way of doing this?

I have been trying to leave more comments on posts. And it is not often I say "looks great", how many times can that mean anything.......but I have been known to say it a time or two. I do try to let the card maker know what I like about it. And I am making it a goal to leave more comments this year. But I am not meaning to be rude if I don't, but then I don't fave many cards either..............not enough time to look back at them. I do love being able to check out all the projects as time allows.

THANK YOU, TO EVERYONE THAT POSTS THEIR CREATIONS!

I don't think I have ever favorited a card that I didn't comment on!!! I know for me, personally, I would really like to see a comment in the comment section, so I try to do that to others But I can also see the other point of view as well - people who have limited time merely favorite the card so they can come back to it later. IMO it's kind of six of one and half a dozen of another ;) Just my 2 cents....

and I agree with you there also, it's NOT a bashing I'm throwing out just a gentle "poke" as I personally know people who's feelers ARE hurt over no comments etc... she does AWESOME projects too!!!!

Thank you for your two cents! LOL:-D

I try to comment as much as I can......but not always enough time. I won't comment on a card that already has a ton of comments either- so I may favorite but not say anything. It seems to me the only way one gets comments on a card here is to tag it in the gallery with one of the challenge codes. Maybe it's simply because the gallery here is soooo HUGE that no one really has the time or takes the time to comment much- you could sit here all day and comment and still not get every card commented on.

I agree!!! For the most part, the cards that I've uploaded to challenge galleries have gotten WAAAAY more comments than just normal uploads!! Sometimes it's discouraging because cards that I spend a lot of time on just don't get commented on, but then I remind myself that the gallery is way too big for everyone to see my creation!!

In the gallery view, not the individual card view, there is "remove" under each thumbnail details. You have to do each card individually but I didn't think it took that long. And since you're in the gallery view, you don't have to go to each card's page.

I actually treasure "favorites" more than I treasure comments.

Maybe it is because I comment waaaaaaay more than I actually favorite. I comment on cards that I like a lot, but only favorite cards that I love, that I know I would want to see again and again. So when I get comments I'm thinking they liked the card; when I see it favorited, I think they liked it enough to want to see it again, or to want to case it (for me, the ultimate compliment).

But I guess my "favoriting" isn't totally accurate either, because I don't favorite any cards made by my favorite card-makers (because I have direct links to their entire galleries).

I don't put cards in my fav's much because I always forgot to go there and look at them! That being said, if I do fav a card I definately make a comment. And I make it a point to comment on those that I view as well. Yes, this means my trips to the gallery take alot longer, but I don't click on a card unless the photo really catches my eye and I figure the least I can do is leave a comment.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to upload their cards, and to those who visit my gallery!

Wow? Really?

I would think that someone who saw her card had been favorited would be honored to have it favorited and be happy with that.

I had no idea it was expected that you had to leave a comment if you favorited something...

To me a fave is much more a compliment than a comment. If you comment and don't fave, I'm forgotten, if you fave and don't comment, you still remember my card....just saying.

I'll be honest here... I don't really get anything from comments like "tfs" I mean it's nice to get comments but to me a favorite has much more power than "tfs". The gallery is where I go to get inspiration and to give inspiration. The times that I really need comments I try to mention that in my post. haha.

I do favorite a lot more than I comment but I will really try harder to actually leave comments. Thanks for the reminder that it bothers some more than others and it's good to play nice.

i like being favourited MORE than comments! I have a few cards that have a lot of comments and ZERO fav's and it boils down to people thought it was okay, they said "Good Job", or whatever, then moved on... But a favourite???? They will FOR SURE look at my card again and use it for inspiration or whatever, and that's more of a stroke for me than a comment!!

I have been trying to comment on as many cards as I do posts. Just a little goal I made. I am happy people take the time to upload the photos to inspire us. I know comments are important to some people, so I do it. I want people to keep uploading! :-)

I agree with at least if you see someone favorited it...you know they really liked it..or perhaps really hated and wanted to show it to someone..oh boy...anyway..I am tickled with just seeing my cards were liked enough to be favorited.

After I case or save on my other computer, I un-fav (just because I have heard stories about people having THOUSANDS of favs -- are they really?). My comments stay forever, KWIM?

Oh I do agree withyou if someone fave's it then WAHOO, but what was it? Color, technique ? KWIM? I know I personally LOVE seeing Faves on my cards it IS an Honor and Compliment!

I guess I am not good at typing comments as I am not trying to sound ungrateful here, just sayin, leave some love...make sense? I never click on a card if it doesn't reach out and grab me as there are a lot of stamp comanies that I dont like, House mouse for example give me the willies! LOL

SO... with that being said, I DO appreciate a fave AND a comment, I think EVERYONE does...

See, I love comments but I personally don't find anyone's comments to be sincere, so it doesn't bother me not to see any. And by that I mean, I think people leave me comments just to be nice-- like when people feel guilted that they haven't commented much and are trying to make up for it. ;) I have a hard time accepting comments as praise! I don't know why that is...

But you wouldn't favorite a card if you didn't want to reference it later, so I am happy to accept favorites even in the absence of comments, because I figure all favorites must be sincere. You wouldn't mark it otherwise.

I just think if you do favorite it I want to know why. Even if its to say you are going to CASE it! I am always trying to improve and if you tell me what you like about it I will keep doing that or try to find a way to make it even better. KWIM?

I personally don't comment very much, and I have thousands of cards favorited (yes, really, I just checked - I have 6697 favorited). I love getting comments, but don't expect it at all, since there are so so many cards posted every day.

Not so long ago, we didn't have the ability to see how many people favorited our gallery postings. We saw views and comments and that was all. I love the favorites count! It gives you a tangible sign that people liked your card enough to want to be able to come back to it again. That's enough ego boost for me most days.

I find the comments I get to be sincere and they are encouraging. Getting a favorite is a nice compliment too. Unless it was like someone said they were saving it to show someone later and say "Look at this guy's stuff. ***?" Which actually would be understandable in my case...lol.

My personal rule is that if I favourite a card, I will comment to let the person know why. Even if I don't put something into my favourites but I like something, even just an element about a card, I will leave a comment.
I actually find it discouraging (lol) if tons of people look at my card and I don't get any comments. You know, the whole "if you can't say something nice" thing!

I think coming in here and yelling at people in red font is kind of rude, KWIM? ;)

Anyway, about leaving not leaving comments and marking as faves, yes, I'm guilty. But if I had a gallery here, I know which I would prefer. And that is my personal feeling, and everyone has the right to their own way of looking at it.

The vast majority of comments I do read on other people's cards are rather gneric, so it's hard to imagine they are actually helpful in terms of future cardmaking. A lot of people here are already upset they don't get enough comments, so I don't think making new rules up about comment-leaving is going to be productive. Just my thoughts.

I just don't understand.

You post a card and would prefer that no one click on it, favorite it, or otherwise look at it unless the person leaves a comment?

When did inaction become rude? When did clicking on favorite become rude if it isn't accompanied by a comment?

What difference does it make? Do you really think the value, beauty, skill, etc. of a card is enhanced if 10 people say they love it? What about only 3? How about 50 favorites and no comments or 50 comments but no favorites?

What if 100 people view, 50 hate it and 50 love it? Or the card is awesome, but it is posted at midnight and no one views it at all? What if one "dirty dozen" designer loves it? Is that worth more than 25 comments from no name stampers?

What if the card is done as part of a challenge and it gets 35 comments but none of the people really mean them, they just comment to be polite and to get comments on their cards?

I don't mean to sound flip or to demean your desire for comments, as I totally understand the fun of getting comments, but I just find the whole thing unrelated to the value of our hobby.

A comment/a view/a favorite is a gift, freely given with no strings.

how about you come here and hold my son so i can have my hands free to type up comments. i'm usually nursing or just holding him. i only have one hand free to control the mouse and dont like typing one handed. takes too long-heck i am doing it now.
i think favouriting a card is even better than a comment because usually it is means someone REALLY loved it.
I think its far more rude to come in here, yell in huge red caps that we aren't commenting.
