so yeah. i caved. i HAVE to have that boards and beams set. i have BIG ideas for it. that and the bitty baby blessings one. and some other stuff.
but yeah. being someone who has had trouble with clear acrylic stamps before, i really need help. i'm a wood-mounted girl. and i'm reallllly tempted to just mount these on foam and stick 'em on a wood block. cause that's what i'm used to. and that's what i know how to do.
however, that would be dumb. because they're not meant to be mounted. SO. got any tips?
i'll be using SU! classic ink. because that's what i have. do i need to do anything to the stamps themselves to use this ink? with other acrylic stamps, the ink beaded up and didn't work.
do i need a different cleaner? i use the SU! stampin' mist.
i appreciate your help!

Being a wood-moiunted girl myself, I will tell you that I have just two PTI sets and I love them! It did take me an hour or so of being frustrated by the constant mounting and un-mounting of images, but after that I kind of got in a rhythm and loved working with them. Because so many of the images are 2-step, being able to see through the acrylic block AND the stamp makes them super easy to line up. I will tell you that pigment (craft) ink works better and cleans off - classic ink will stain them, especially certain colors. The stamps come with a tip sheet that tells you all you need to know about using the stamps, cleaning them, etc. Have fun!
I use Stampin' Mist and SU classic ink on my PTI pads sometimes, and they work just fine - after several uses, the stamps may not stick on your block as well... I just wash them in soapy water and they're sticky as new.
okay. so, craft ink works better.. i wonder if i could use versamark and then classic ink over it.. i've done that with embossing stuff.
and i'll look into the ultra clean. i find that SU! stampin' mist doesn't always clean up my stamps as well after using black ink. so i'll look into that.
thanks everybody!

I pretty much only use my Classic inks with my PTI sets since that's all I really have. The only thing that I've found that doesn't work well with then is markers ;) They will stain. Sometimes that's a good thing though.....easier to find in the pile of stamping stuff!
I am a mostly wood-mounted girl, except for my PTI! I LOVE my PTI! I find that SU! classic ink and Stampin' Mist works just fine with it. You just have to "condition" your stamps. They come with a film on them that leaves your image looking blotchy if you just start stamping with them right away. Some people say to rub them with an eraser or adhesive remover or to rub them on your jeans. I don't do any of that. As soon as I get them, I juice up my Stamp-N-Scrub with Stampin' Mist and give all the stamps a good rub on the wet side, a good rub on the dry side, then stamp on grid paper like 3-5 times. They won't be crystal clear anymore, but they will stamp perfectly! I use only classic ink and I haven't had a problem with them.
I do have one piece of advice that I can give, though. See, I am a *hard* stamper. I like smash my rubber into my paper, but it seems that clear stamps can't handle that. They require a "lighter" touch for me. I don't know if that is true for everyone, but it certainly is for me. If I press too hard with the clear stamp, it sort of squishes the photopolymer and makes the image all distorted. I have to remind myself to just make contact with the paper, not smoosh it in like I do with rubber stamps (I don't know why I do that or how I got started, but I guess there's no turning back now! )
Hope that helps!
Oh, and welcome to the wonderful, addicting world of PTI! You're going to *love* it!

I've unmounted my SU stamps and have a ton of acrylic stamps, includng PTI. I've seen this comment a few times, about the amount of time for mounting/unmounting. I'm sincere here in that I'm not really sure why people have an issue with that aspect of it. Are you mounting really carefully to line up or center the stamp on the block? Or maybe do you just have one block? I have several blocks and just slap 'em on ... my workspace looks the same as when I use wood-mounted -- by the time I'm done there are several blocks with stamps on them to be cleaned up! SO it's just that nanosecond of putting the stamp on and taking it off.
I also love UltraClean for my clear stamps - it works great! But don't worry about a little staining - it does help you to see even better what the stamp looks like and where you're stamping and it doesn't hurt anything.
Also, you can use a magazine or mouse pad or foam pad (made especially for this) to lay your cardstock on and stamp onto with that little bit of cushion - some people like the feel better.
I love my PTI stamps! I was a die hard wood mounted only girl ... until PTI came along. Now I wish ALL my stamps were clear and unmounted! You'll LOVE them. They are super easy to use. Your SU Classic Ink will work just fine - that's what I use since it's all I have.
PTI = Papertrey Ink. They are just a website to order form. No demo's or anything. They do have really nice stamps. The nicest clear I have used, and I've used several.
Oh I forgot to add. My favorite thing about them is they have their own exclusive colors. Which have matching patterned paper, ribbon, ink, and cardstock. I love that, it's one of the reason why I like Stampin Up. You don't have to worry about matching.
PTI stamps are fabulous. I actually prefer them to wood mounted, but that's just me. I like Palette inks for them, also Colorbox and Dew Drops work well. Just experiment and see what you like best.
I have to say that I have fallen in love with acrylic stamps, too, especially PTI. Their service is great...fast shipping...super high quality stuff. I may never purchase a wood-mounted stamp again. (sorry to my SU demo!)
I'm so bummed I can't order...for some reason the PTI website will not come up on my computer or my husband's computer. it popped up briefly last night, but then I lost it again. I seriously think it has something to do with his antivirus software and it is booting us both off. I was totally hoping to buy a couple of sets and some of the new paper/ribbon. Plus I was seriously looking at the ScorPal, which I think is too cool. Not that I have anywhere to put it...but Nichole just does too much cute stuff and makes me want to buy everything she shows on her blog!
I've called my Internet provider and they say its a website issue, and not them. Which is total B.S....I'm having problems with tons of other websites as well (including uploading anything here, bummer!!). So I don't know what to do.
I can't wait to get back to America and have what I consider to be well-known and normal Internet service!!

Not craft ink......NOooooooOOOoooooo! Your SU Classic Dye inks will work BEAUTIFULLY with PTI stamps. I have a million sets (not really....but CLOSE to all of them!) and one of the main reasons that I like them so much is that they would so well with the SU Classic inks. I also use Pallette inks with them. They are such WONDERFUL stamps and such great designs! I LOVE Boards and Beams and should have it in my hot little hands TOMORROW! WooHoo!
I finally ordered the polka dot set and I got the flower set with the sentiments. I actually prefer the Palette inks with my clear stamps.
I love PTI! And, I love the polka dot ribbon!

I just discovered PTI back in February. I having been ordering regularly and I have 16 sets. I finally took the plunge and ordered their paper, ink and some ribbon. I am impatiently waiting for it to arrive since I just place the order on Monday. You will love them!!! My SU stamps are jealous because they don't get out play much.
I use my SU classic ink with them and they work fine! Just DO NOT use Stazon ink on them because it is not good for any acrylic stamps if you want to use a permanent ink for watercoloring. I switched to Archival Jet Black by Ranger and it works beautifully!
I would also leave them unmounted. It is much easier to work and align things with unmounted acrylic. I wish all my stamps were acrylic!
Have fun!!!! Your new favorite day of the month will become the 15th when PTI has new releases!

This is really important! I had so much trouble with clear stamps when I first started using them for this very reason. A light touch really is the key to a nice, clear image. Have fun with your new toys. I love PTI and use their products almost every single time I sit down to craft.
Another thing to add about PTI's cardstock..is that it is much heavier than SU! It really holds up embellishments. Your card doesn't bend to the weight like it would with SU!
Enjoy your new stamps!!

I'm happy to finally have the "Out on a Limb" set coming my way
Me too!! Plus the boards and beams and some card stock- I decided to try out their cream color and needed some white. It's in the mail and I hope it arrives before I head out to a crop on Friday
Dont you ladies just love the button to order everything new all at once...I love how easy it is to get all the new stuff....my wallet does not. I also love their papers, inks and ribbons...they are the best quality and so very pretty.
Blessings.
