Just Canadians
Hi i know we have a lot of Canadians here..it would be nice if we had a forum just for them..lol..don't hit me yet!!
I think that's what i mean anyway..everytime i go onto a post it will say get this or that at this store or that one..I go to the link only to find it is an American store. I don't even dare to explore..cause i see so many nice stamps etc. that i would like but will not order bcause the the duty hassle etc.
We have Walmart and Michael's here but...we don't seem to have the same stuff.
Even our su catty's are a bit diff..
Luckily i do have a few on-line sites that i order from..so that helps.
I'm only 3hrs. from the ND border to Grand Forks ..sooo will have to take one of my jaunts there to check out joannes..thx for listening..loves ya all..Gail

Well, Gail, where are ya! I'm in Winkler, so I can almost see the border from here! My sister just moved to Minn. last summer, so what I can't get, I ask her to look for me. It so helps that we are both obsessed with stamping!
I agree that it's such a let down to click on something and find that it's unavailable to us. You can PM me sometime and we could chat!

Another vote for a Canadian forum.
I find that I will often order and accept the customs charges and difference in the dollar to get what I want....but, sometimes I find a site (like that ribbon site....there's a big thread on it) and they don't ship to Canada. Boy, was I disappointed. And May Arts ribbons (or is that May Nights ribbon)....I've only found them on Starlit Studio. Never on a Canadian site. Yup, we Canadian gals need to rally together and chat. Find sites, talk about what we can get where. If someone is making a trip to the US, maybe make a shopping list and send the stuff to fellow Canadians who are interested in that trip to Joanns. Count me in. Oh, I know MrsBee (Darci) would be keen on this too. I think she is at work right now.

ITs just hard to travel far wth 2 little ones! MY sister did go down and went to 2 targets for me looking for the tin mailboxes but they did not have any oh well. yes it would be nice to get more things in Canada!

I vote yes too!!! I am weary of having to order things from over the border and having to pay duty and major shipping (although Canada Post is not too cheap either) Bring it on, eh! Maybe we should all just get together and start up a store that sells all the good stuff!!

I would love a Canadian only forum.
Minor rant: we pay so much more than US customers for SU and other products, even making allowances for the $$ conversion. There are SO many Canadian stampers I applaud Canadian stamp makers and stores and have been trying so hard to find them but they are few and far between. A forum just for us to share news on Canadian deals and stores etc would be awesome. Stampingbella with her great stamps, great prices and low shipping is one of the stars in a very lonely Canadian stamping frontier.

I am just a shade east of Manitoba...in St. John's (Newfoundland and Labrador!) and I agree with everything all the above Canadians said! I hate seeing the price difference in the Canadian and US SU cattys. Whenever there is a link to a mini I check it out and oooh and aaaahh over everything I'm going to order. Then I find out that the cute $21 stamp set is $36 CAD. What's up with that?

Another Winnipegger here. Who knew there were so many of us?! What amazes me is the pre-printed book prices where the US price is about half the Cdn price. Sure, there's exchange, but really!

It is frustrating to hear and see about all the great things out there only find it is not available to us.

Woohoo Canadians could form a shadow cabinet on SCS! I hear it's all the rage up nort these days.
I did most of my online ordering from e-stores in Alberta, but I guess most Ontarians and possibly even Manitobans would get hosed with the shipping.

Any room for a Canadian living in Washington? We live in Spokane, but originally from Edmonton. I'm a three hour drive from Nelson, BC. Whenever I am in need a Canadian fix we head north! They don't have any stamping stores there but I keep looking everytime I go.

Another vote here. I mostly buy SU stuff. There is a PhotoMemories and Micheals in Halifax 2 hrs away and the LSS is 45 mins away. I've found some nice charms at the $1 stores and if I'm lucky I once in a blue moon find nice patterned paper there too. I really like Basic Grey and often had to have that shipped from the US (EXPENSIVE).

Hey Saskatchewan girls lets get on the band wagon here. Put my vote in for a forum. It is very sad to say but our Cdn. Postage is sometimes as much if not more than U.S.A. postage. But it would be nice to support our own for a change. Lets hear from Saskatchewan - anybody - before they turn out the lights. hee hee

Former Manitoban
Hi,
I would love a Canadian forum too. I'm a Canadian living in Germany right now, just moved from....Winnipeg!! this summer. Must be the long winters and mosquitoes keeping us in stamping away!
BTW, you all have it good, because any sort of craft store is hard to come by here and they are expensive for the most part. I wanted to buy some DMC thread for cross stitching and almost fell over! 1.60 euro each (.65=$1 CDN) and they are made in France! My best bud made a run to Michaels for me with the 3/$1 sale.

Just my perspective as as non-Canadian...sounds like many are interested in a Canadian forum, and I think that's a great idea. I just don't want to lose the international (I know, we're just across the border from each other!!!) aspect of Splitcoast, I love hearing from people from all over. Are you thinking it'd be in place of the General Stamping section or in addition to?

i dont really care where and i dont think we would stop posting in the regular forums, but it would be nice to have a spot to post canadian info. i hate yahoo groups, and the message boards i have found are small canadian ones attached to a store and dont like other stores, deals info being posted.
plus it would be nice to have a place to find each other.
i have been watching the canadian threads and they get lost so fast uness i subscribe to them.

Denise was correct ... I am interested, too! It would be great to have somewhere to share Canadian and 'Canadian-friendly' sources, or to discuss issues that uniquely Canadian. I do enjoy the interaction with people from all over, but this would certainly make for much more effective enabling! It can be really time-consuming to sort through all the other messages and links and sites to find places that ship to Canada and don't charge shipping like its going clear to Japan!

How nice..there are 3 winnerpeggers here..including me..lol
I don't think it is taking away from the the intrn'l aspect of splitcoasters. I always check out all the forums. It's just a way of keeping in touch w/ fellow Canadians and posting new items about Canadian stores/ web sites etc. Also a lot of the buy/sell/trade i go into? u got it!! always american..well except 1..for buy i did find a couple of items i am getting from her (in BC).
Sooo that's what i think would be nice about it. I chek out all the forums i'm always looking for new techniques or just chit-chat in general. I think it's great there are so many from all over the world here...thx for all the replies..you all are sooo great...Loves ya...Gail
