I have this set and it is not hard to ink up at all and you would not need craft ink the classis work well. I think because it is a bit larger though that I rub my pad on top of the upside down stamp instead of inking it the regular way.
I find that using a brayer on background stamps provides a nice thin and even amount of ink coverage and no lines from the edges of the pad. It's the way to go!
