Default If you could invent a crafting item...

I recently fractured my knee so I'm not moving around as much I normally do and I was crafting in my art room the other day. I needed to wash some clear stamps to get the "stickiness" back on the flat side. I hate having to get up, leave a project, go all the way to the kitchen or a bathroom, grab the dish-soap, dry them, and go back. And washing little pieces always worries me it will slip out of my hand and down the drain! If I could create a crafting / stamping tool or item, it would be something to restore the stickiness of a clear stamp without needing a water source or at least not having to move far from my desk. I use baby wipes to clean off ink, but that doesn't work for the stickiness!

If you could invent something, what you would create??

No invention ideas here, but hoping your recovery goes well and quickly!!

(as to the clear stamps thing ... I have a small bowl with water and a drop of dish detergent in an out of the way place on my desk where mine go after use. Not sure if that's a possibility for you while you recuperate or not, but throwing it out there in case it's helpful.)

Get thee a spray bottle of water and a roll of paper towels. Then you can also use your spray bottle for watercolor techniques.

I would invent someone who comes over post myself stamping a project and magically puts everything away in its proper place so I can find it the next time! Lol

And get thee a colander, one with tiny holes. I keep one in my stamp area so I can drop stamps of any size in there and wash all at the same time.

I would invent a better stamping surface. Cutting mats with padding on one side is not thick enough. Foam pads, like mouse pads, are too thick. I need cutting, measuring, stamping and taping all in one pad. Dream on, huh.Mary Beth

Good one! I need this magical person to re-organize my tiny room, then magically put everything away when I'm done stamping.

I have given this thought for a looooong time, I want a paper trimmer that will not dull the blade...but wait....one that is not a guillotine or rotary, one that will cut out in the middle of the page...but wait....one that stores things and has a score pad under the cutting surface...but wait...one that is LIGHT and compact. I would love this. Can it be done?

I wish there was something I could buy that acts like a die cut machine but isn't one. There are such pretty dies and embossing folders but I don't want to mess with a machine type thing with plates, having to make sandwiches, (unless it's toasted cheese), or something that takes up a lot of space.

I just want to make shapes and embellies.

This is a great idea on an 'as needed' - 'temporary' basis, IMO! If I were to do it regularly, I'd be oh so sorry quite often ... but in a pinch, I'd go with it!

I would be scared of the bowl too so I would do a spray bottle with dish soapy water in it.

ooo a stamp Jeeves! I would LOVE one!! Quietly comes in behind me and cleans and straightens up-and also records and puts away the new stuff. And he cleans the room in general-pulls out stuff and dusts and everything. I have a lot of plastic boxes and plastic attracts dust! ((sigh))

I guess I would love a time machine so I have more time in a day.

That's what I thought too, so put it a little further out of reach than my watercolor water. I've had a couple of mishaps with the watercolor glass. So far (knock on wood) none with the clear stamps bowl. Like setting a table, they both have a set spot and I'm mindful when they're out ... and depending on the project, they may not be out at all, but if they're called for, they have their designated place, lol!

Love, love, love the little colander idea, btw!

not meaning to take the thread off topic, enjoying the creative ideas.

what about a salad spinner?

https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/sto...SABEgLMk_D_BwE

It would keep the stamps safe and give them some agitation to clean?

Or one of those little drain covers-not a drain stopper, but it's for keeping hair from the drain, like in a bathtub. Water flows through, and the precious little pieces don't! Love the salad spinner idea-now just need a little one that doesn't take up so much "real estate". Love my SPL website for ideas-so much creativity here!

Hmmmmm! That's my salad spinner exactly! LOL It's pretty big, but if a person is roaring thru their stamp stash in one sitting, I can see some peeps trying it.

I would invent paper that cleans up itself...I mean the little tiny bits that always end up on the floor or on the bottom of your slipper and track all over the house!! When they reach 'sliver' size they automatically jump into the garbage pail! LOL

A clean up robot who doesn't reveal my messy secrets to my tidy friends would be good. A new dog in the family who is munchier than the last one is forcing me to clean up around my desk.

i would invent a vacuum that's built into my work surface. The opening for the vacuum would have a flap that opened up when you pressed the button to run it but would stay closed while stamping so items we don't want to lose will fall in.

Another thing that would be neat would be to have voice activated automated storage for my inks and paper.
When i want a particular color i could just say "Calypso Coral inkpad" and the unit would spit out that ink pad.

I would like a storage system like they use at the dry cleaners. You push a button and the unit rotates up by the ceiling, then lowers and stops with the stamp or paper or ink I need.

An easier way to Heat emboss. My little embossing gun is always slipping out of my hand , it falls off my desk and the cord tangles. It's so irritating

I didn't think I had an idea, but as I read everyone's comments, one came to me! Or I remembered one I'd had tucked away in my head. LOL Something I have been gripping about to myself.... I HATE having to buy the cutting plates for my Big Shot! What? Just to have them run through the machine & then, thrown away? I would like cutting plates that are SELF HEALING & LAST MUCH LONGER than the ones out there! I mean they can create "Self Healing Cutting Mats!" ;) (And have you noticed? They seem to be thinner to me! So, they don't last as long now or cut as crisp!)

Another thing...I want our tools (like ATG Gun, rulers, Exacto knives etc.) to have hangers at the end so I can dangle them on a hook and not clutter up my desk.

Get a "serious" heat emboss gun at Home Depot/Lowes...Milwaukee brand is what I have used for OVER 20 years--heats up fast, does great clean embossing and I always have it set up on my desk--It's purpose is to remove wall paper--or do heating jobs in the construction business--I gave up on the rinky dink lil' heat guns years ago--they never quite did the job right!

I used mine once - just not into computer cuting (I know, weird, but getting my hands into what I'm doing is what's satisfying), so will be putting it up for sale.

I'd like to invent a seller to come get and sell everything I was sure I"d love but didn't, and hand me cash for it.

And I'd like a crafty maid robot.

To the OP, there are alternatives to soap and water that will keep stickiness on clear stamps so they won't ever unstickify. Maybe at least during this recuperation period one can help you?

I happen to use Hero Arts Ultra Clean with a microfiber cloth to clean mine (if I want something more than water and a microfiber cloth or Stamp Shammy or baby wipe). Spray, wipe off, done. If a little damp I stick the stamps on top of the clear plastic piece for a few moments before putting them in between the two sheets.

I want a place for everything and everything in it's place. Is that too much to expect? It would be easier if I was better organized so I need an organizer too. Now I am really dreaming!!

That's awesome, I didn't know there were other options! If I don't have to rinse off the Ultra Clean, I'm ordering some tomorrow for sure. And probably in bulk I just posted on someone's thread about how I too buy crafting things I love in bulk.

I love everyone's ideas! Especially the one with storage like they have at the dry cleaners. It makes me think of the movie Clueless - and how Cher picks out her outfits each day. Pictures of each item of clothing are stored on her computer where she matches them up - then hits a button once she's picked out her outfit - and her closet rotates to the items she selected. That would be amazing with supplies! Hit a few buttons and the items are easily accessible. No more digging through drawers and boxes!

And I just learned now what OP stands for, lol. And I've been a member since 2005! I figured it out only because I realized the response was directed at me in particular - and I had to stop and think what OP could stand for!

Lets see, how about a stamp cleaner that gets everything off, including off my MISTI, that requires no rinsing afterwards.

A storage system that can shrink as a product is used like glitter and Embossing powder. The perfect size and shape of jar for using an oblique calligraphy pen for small amounts of ink. I know there are more.

What it feels like to me is glycerin. Glycerin has that funny slippery feeling that I would describe as greasy. I'm just guessing what's in it.

Maybe I don't because of using an absorbent microfiber cloth to wipe the stamps dry? Stamps, blocks and platform are all squeaky clean other than some photopolymer stamps stained from a certain inks, mainly reds.

For some stamps a spray bottle of water and a microfiber cloth or damp Stamp Shammy (or Absorber) is enough (without cleaner, IOW), or a baby wipe if stubborn. We all have different methods - just trying to help the OP given her injury. Like Mary said, a slick feeling may be glycerin.

These are the little microfiber towels, thicker than ones I used to have:
https://www.amazon.com/Zwipes-735-Mi...crofiber+cloth Jennifer McGuire linked to them though I happened to have them. : )

Like the Absorber or Stamp Shammy, they stain but the ink doesn't come off on anything else, and I toss them in the washing machine now and then.

Love the idea of someone coming to sell everything I thought I would alter, love, use or whatever and hand me the money back! That is the best! And is OP = Other person?

Close! Original Poster or Original Post, depending on how it's used. Internet-speak.

OT I just noticed you're in Laurel, Maryland! (I'm in NoVa but grew up and lived in MD most of my life.) Do you ever visit the Queen's Ink, in the Old Savage Mill?

OT I just met a family who was to Lewes a couple of months ago. : ) Photo Scraps is a couple of hours away assuming light traffic, which it never is, so I haven't visited. My LSS's - besides The Queen's Ink, which is a quite a hike - were Angela's (closing this week) and Goldenshill in Clifton, VA - a wonderful shop and owner.

I guess some people might not agree, but Ultra Clean absolutely does it for me if a water/Stamp Shammy (for stamps) don't. I need to spray enough on to get everything off, and then dry it as mentioned in another post with a microfiber towel. If need be there's always a baby wipe, but my blocks, Misti and platform are crystal clear and clean. I never rinse them. The majority of my stamps are photopolymer, if that makes a difference. If Jennifer McGuire doesn't rinse that's good enough for me. ; )

AND, (I don't know about the photopolymer stamps, because I've not heard....) SOME CLEANERS actually condition the stamps & keep them from drying out, so you don't want to rinse off the cleaner! ;)
