Default Ideas for candy canes now Christmas is over?

I have two boxes of candy canes left over from Christmas! I'm hoping some of you have ideas to share on what to do with these...I would love to put these to good use and not waste them. Any ideas?

You could put 2 together to make a heart (curved tops meeting in the middle, long part meeting at the end - just add a dab of glue to the wrap or maybe double stick tape), then add a photo or message or just a ribbon at the top & hand them out for Valentine's Day - if they last that long

Candy canes..And Almond Bark.

My MIL made some really good Candy this Christmas.

Crush the Candy Canes up and then Melt the Almond Bark White kind
Mix in the Crushed Candy Canes into the almond bark.
Spread it out onto a baking sheet (proctect with Wax paper)
and let cool. Break it up and enjoy....
You can freeze the left over's......If this is any.

Saw a guy on TV that used a coffee bean grinder to grind them all up into a powder and he says it's like "peppermint flavored powdered sugar" and you can use it to flavor things like hot cocoa, sprinkle over ice cream, etc.

A couple of years ago, my DD's preschool teacher gave each of her students a ziploc baggie with hot chocolate powder, mini marshmallow and a candy cane on the first day back at school in January... This poem was attached. Do you have neighbours/co-workers/friends who need cheering? Many people get the winter blues in late January...

Snowman Soup

I know youve been very good this year.
Always glad to hear it!
With winter weather all around,
Youll need to warm your spirit.

So make a cup of Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick.
Add hot water, drink it slowly,
Its sure to do the trick!

A few years ago my mom and I bought a whole bunch on clearance and used them to make hearts. We unwrapped them and put them on a cookie sheet with wax paper. Take two and form into a heart shape then put in the oven to melt them together. I think the glued ends would work faster but the do make cute hearts.

A couple Halloweens ago a kid asked if we had any candy canes. We had some left over from the previous Christmas. He was a very happy kid when he left our house.

I went to a cookie exchange and got some sort of chocolate cookies with crushed peppermints or candy canes in them. They were wonderful. I don't have a recipe for them. Maybe someone out there has one?? I would go buy candy canes to make these cookies they were so good. Wish I could find the recipe.

Ok, I really need to be making dinner but thinking about those cookies got me sidetracked. Here is a link for Chocolate Peppermint Drops. Not sure if this was the cookie I got at the cookie exchange, but it sounds close. Diet starts on the 1st so I have a few days to make these and eat them all.

That is a great idea! And like Julie said...super for Valentines Day. Now I just need to get some of that white bark while they still have it in the stores.

Another good idea! And you could use white dipping chocolate to make them Valentine's friendly.

Break some up, then crush a bit further between two pieces of waxed paper with a hammer until about the size of choc chips. Using a choc chip recipe, make the cookies and substitute the candy canes for the nuts.

Make peppermint creme brulee.

Take a half-gallon of dark chocolate ice cream and let it soften a bit. Get a large mixing bowl and large spoon ready. Scoop the ice cream into the big bowl. Add finely ground candy canes and use the large spoon to fold them together. After a couple minutes of blending, add the ice cream back into its carton and re-freeze. Voila! Chocolate Peppermint ice cream.

Crush into chip-sized pieces and blend into chocolate brownie mix. Sprinkle some on top. Bake. Happy minty brownies.

I made peppermint bark throughout the holidays---easy and delicious---and saving some candy canes to make some for Valentine's day.
Take one bag of semi-sweet chocolate morsels---melt in double boiler and spread thin onto parchment paper--best to have parchment sitting atop a cookie sheet for ease of transfer to freezer later.
Do the same with one bag of Andes peppermint chips or white chocolate chips---immediately spread over melted chocolate.
Sprinkle with crushed candy canes---a whole box is what I used.
Place into freezer for at least 15 min. Pull out, break into pieces.
I really like the Andes peppermint chips---melted they are a funky pink color---great for Valentines day. The only place I found them was at Walmart.
This tastes similiar to Williams Sonoma's peppermint bark, but doesn't cost $30 a pound;)

These cookies are the answer. You will never need another cookie recipe again after you have tried these! Simple and easy, and oh soooooooooo good. People will fight over them, this is not a joke! i brought these for Christmas and some of the people there were actually filling up napkins with them to keep them for themselves! Plus it's a no bake recipe!

Peppermint Snowballs

MAKES: 2 1/2 dozen

1 package of Oreo Cookies
1 package cream cheese(softened 8 oz.)
about 6 oz White Chocolate Bark, or white melting chocolate
about 3 to 4 candy canes finely crushed

Let cream cheese get to room temp.
Finely crush Oreo Cookies
Mix these two together well
By hand roll these into balls about 1 1/2 inches big and set aside.

Crush candy canes, very fine. The amount can very depending on your own taste. (I just put them in a ziplock bag, on a towel with another towel over the top and hammered away!)

Melt White Bark and mix in crushed candy canes. (I used the microwave to melt mine keeping an eye on it, I think it was a little less than a cup when melted. DO NOT add candy canes until you are done melting the chocolate!) Dip balls into this make sure the are totally covered. Put on tray covered with wax paper. Put in fridge to set.

Keep in fridge because of the cream cheese. These can be taken out before serving, I actually think they taste best when out about 10 before eating them! I also did these for a cookie exchange at the school. The only problem was the ladies ate them before they even got them home!

Hope this helps! Enjoy!
Christine

Really? I never would have thought...

I know the ones I've "saved" for next year always end up gummy and icky when I pull them out.

Love the Peppermint Snowballs recipe! Can't wait to try it.

I just got back from Costco and bought their 30 pack of candy canes with gummy elves was only $.97. I know I can't eat all the candy canes, but now with this recipe, I can share with my friends.

BTW, I pulled off all the bows from each candy cane to use later for cards or something.

My SIL made a cute cake with crushed candy canes. She covered an angel food cake with whipped cream then sprinkled the crushed candy canes on - it was yummy. I think it would be just as good (and last longer) with vanilla icing on a white cake.

I just make Choc chip cookies and add crushed candy canes.

I gound mine up and used them as sprinkles on valentine cookies (yes I've made V-day cookies already this year).
