Default I need more zigs!

LOL. Now that I'm figuring out how to use them best, I need more blendable colors. Orange and yellow blend so cool together, but the blues and greens I have don't blend well. I have the set of twelve....I need to see if my LSS will order some for me!

I have been practicing with mine today. I feel the same need more colors.

I have 2 Brown, 2 pink, 2 blue, 2 green, a purple,orange,red and yellow.

But until I get this water coloring down I won't buy any more.

I feel like I take too much time practicing and just want to whip out those topics and be done with it!

I recommend Carpe Diem Markers dot com. Individual markers $1.89 and if you buy a set they are actually higher. Free shipping at $35. I've had great service there.

I'll have to buy a set since I don't shop online. My LSS will order stuff for me, but she orders by phone. She orders from a catalog since she has no computer! She and I go the old fashioned way I guess! LOL

Arghhh! {hands over eyes, not reading}

I used them at a Stamp/SB Expo class for a watercolor smoosh technique and fell in love. After class I went to buy them but 80% were sold out. I have ... four! LOL But I forgot I "need" more.

Enablers, all of you. ; )

Kathy, are you going to the Lancaster CKC show this Friday/Saturday? The company that taught the class will be there and sells them there. I was going to make the 2.5+ hour drive to volunteer at a class for a fave teacher and take another of her classes, but it looks I won't be able to make it.

Probably a two hour drive for me too. I am not sure I can sit for the long drive. Sure wish they'd hold those closer!

Yes, Connie. The more I use them the more I love them. Had a little learning curve for me at first, but now I use them whenever possible, I just need more colors!

You can use them directly on you image and then use a brush to spread out the color or you can scribble on a pallette and then watercolor from there.

At the Stamp/SB Expo, we scribbled three colors on a small piece of acetate, misted it with a bit of Water, and then took our card base and swooshed it over the acetate, making sure to also leave white space.

It looked just like a watercolor wash, and the colors were so clear, vibrant, yet soft, with beautiful blending. (We stamped a large background stamp over it when dry, adhered stamped sentiments, etc.)

Their set of twelve was a good start for me. It has black, gray, two blues, two greens, pink, red, purple, yellow, orange and brown.

Congrats to those who have just jumped on the Zig-Train! You are going to go nuts (in a good way!) using these brushes. I'm still bumbling along, teaching myself how to use them and experimenting with different papers. So far my favorite, most user friendly paper for Zigs is Strathmore Bristol Smooth 100#. Jen McGuire recommends Canson Bristol Smooth 100#, which I have tried, but I get better results with the Strathmore Bristol.

Speaking of Jen McGuire, she has a couple of really good videos that will get you pumped up. Here's one of them!

My tulips card was done on the strathmore bristol 100#. It works well for using the markers but not as well as canson xl if you are going to use water.

I used a water brush (kurakaki) on both of these, and concluded that I had more predictialbe results with the Strathmore Bristol.

As an aside/addendum, I printed the color swatch charts that Jen McGuire has created as a free download. Since I knew I would be using the Zigs on different papers, I decided to print the charts on 3 different types of watercolor paper: Strathmore 140# Watercolor paper; Stathmore Bristol Smooth 100#; and Canson Brisol Smooth 100#.

It was a real eye-opener to see the way the ink soaked in/stroked out on the different types of paper. Not only did the inks move distinctly on the different types of paper, the colors also varied from paper to paper. I was really glad I took the time to do this, because now I have specific color charts to refer to when I use a particular paper with the Zigs. I also gained some hands-on experience with how easy/difficult it was to get the color to blend out on the paper samples.

And yes, in case you are wondering I did take time to make the little color dot swatches on top of each brush marker. If I had it to do all over again I would make the dot one solid color, not half solid color, half stroked out color. The dots are 1/4" circle punches. That is tiny to start with; halving it made it that much smaller. Ugh! My advice is to make the swatch dots as one solid color. Also, don't bother with a top clear coat, it changes the color. Just my thoughts on it...

If whatever I've colored doesn't completely cover the piece (panel or other shape), I will use typically Bristol as a folded card base. I do this mainly because I can't stand the look of white-ish card stocks that don't match in whiteness.
However, you can layer the Bristol panel on colored cs to separate it visually from a non-matching white card base.
I made a card yesterday with the Starhmore Bristol Smooth 100# as a card base and it cut and folded quite nicely.
