Default I have a very stupid question about using ribbon......

When you wrap ribbon around part of your card, how to you affix it?? Do you use glue dots?? Glue tape? Glue sticks? I used a few mini glue dots for the first time to attach a very small piece of ribbon, boy do those suckers hold!! But I'm not sure this would be the way to go for a large piece of ribbon like on this (GORGEOUS) card...

Please help this newbie better her cards with the use of ribbon (Is there a ribbon tutorial?? LOL!)

I'm cheap when it comes to my ribbon, so I will cut it about an inch to an inch and a half longer than the piece I'm wrapping it around. Then I will use my adhesive on the back and stick one end down, wrap it around find out where it goes, add more adhesive there and stick that end down. Sometimes if the whole thing needs to be stuck down, I'll run the ribbon through my Xyron X. That works really well, but I'd run 2 ribbons through at a time, again cuz I'm cheap and don't like to waste the adhesive

Hi Michelle :-)
It all depends on what kind of ribbon or how much of it I am using but I tend to use my normal adhesive and just run a line of it where ever the ribbon is going to lay. I also use my glue dots. I guess it depends on my mood. Lol. If I am doing something that requires a lot of ribbon I will run it through my Xyron as well. Works great!!! (especially on the twill tape!)
Good Luck.

I usually only have about 1/4" on each side to wrap around the card.

I always use the mini glue dots now. I used to use snail adhesive, but the glue dots are so much easier. You just touch the ribbon to the glue dot on each end and you are done! The nice part is that these go along way! I don't have to replace them that often.

I used to use mono and run it along the ribbon and tuck the ends around the back (I don't run ribbon all the way around.) but now I have discovered that if I use a small piece of regular old scotch tape the anchor the ends around the back, that works way better! It holds much better than mono for something thick like ribbon.

To hold a ribbon down on the back of a card, I use scotch tape. You can't see it, so I don't worry a whole lot about it. I try to get acid free tape, though. Then I use double stick tape to hold my layers together.

I do the same as those above: either tape the ends to the back or if the whole thing needs adhesive, run it through my xyron.

I use red liner tape (Sticky Strip for SU!) at the edges, and maybe a bit someplace in between depending on the card. I always had trouble with my ribbon and fibers coming off before I switched. It's strong stuff, and you can cut your ribbon right at the card edge (tape keeps ribbon from unraveling), for those of us who hate to waste anything.

I know Cami's goes all the way around - I have one of her snowman ones! I love ribbon, and do the same thing. If it's a card like this, I cut a slit the size of the ribbon, and slip it through, then tie. More ribbon, please! I went from double to triple. LOVE the look!

Thanks for all your replies!!!

I did some cards with ribbon today, but now I have another question. How do you keep the ends from fraying when you tie knots??

Actually, I'm not even sure I attached the ribbon right. Can someone post a pic of the inside of their card? If you wrap it all the way around, the person is going to see the ends on the inside so I need for it to look pretty

I solved that problem by making sure if I was going to use ribbon, I had layers to hide the attaching. Although, I did a card for my dd yesterday that had cord, and I just slid it into the inside fold of the card, and attached the knot on the front where I wanted it.

Usually, I just tape it to the back of a layer. Then attach the layer.
