I am very very new to SU but I love what little I already have. I joined a hostess clud and love love love it. I was the hostess this past month and I ordered wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy toooooooo much! I did get the benefits, I got 21 sab items and a free marker set and some paper. I just am not sure about the demo. I love making cards and my wish list is huge too. I dont know very many people who stamp or scrapbook that I could ask to do a show or anything. I have heard of people doing it for the discount on their stamps but then it scares me for 300.00 a quarter. Please give me your feed back either way. I would love to hear from you...
The signup special during SAB is so good (especially with the 3-easy payments option), that you really can't go wrong, even if you sign up, get the kit and never purchase another thing. You would be a demo through June 30 and, if you hadn't purchase (or sold) $300 ($240 after your discount) you would go into pending in July. The new catalog is out then and you could purchase what you want with your discount. If you still haven't hit $300 you would simply drop, but you would have gotten all this great stuff at a discount.
That's what I told a customer of mine who finally agreed with me. She's signing up today. Go for it!
Yeah but I was the hostess so I got more... Just not sure I can spend 300.00 every 3 months.....
If you break it down by month, it's not as bad as it sounds. It is $300 before the discount, so you it is really only $80/month. Of course, you then do have to add the shipping and tax. However, it's a no lose situation - even if you don't meet your minimum you just to inactive. You have still gotten some great product for a great deal!
And if you sign up, you get 30% off your first workshop order ($150 or more) even if it's just your order as long as it's submitted within a specific time frame. Is it within the first 60 days? I can't remember off the top of my head.

Did you say 21 SAB items??? WOW! That's a big order! I was a hobby demo for about a year. Once I got everything I wanted I ended up quitting cuz the $300 a quarter was too much for me to keep up with. I think if you are spending enough right now to get 21 SAB items, it could only benefit you to become a demonstrator!
If you want to make it a business, there are plenty of suggestions and help on the demo side of this site ( you can join once you are signed up with SU!) if you are passionate enough about papercrafting to spend so much money in one hit then I am sure you will be able to share that passion with other people. That is how you will get your customers.
Right now there does seem to be some great offers in the USA if you sign up, so I would say if you can afford to then take the plunge.
I know I spent wayyyy to much but I could not decide what not to get. I need so manythings for things coming up. I know I should pace myself and I have got to do better now. I was the hostess so I got more sab even from my free stuff...
The first is is $56.34, then two payments of $56.33 on April 15 and May 15 (on your CC)
Then from April 1 - April 30 because SAB is over the first payment is $66.34, then two payments of $66.33 on May 15 and June 15.
But your kit gets sent after SU receives your application and first payment. The three payment starter kit needs to be done with "paper" paperwork and can't be done online.
If you're just doing it for the discount you could give part of it away to a co-buyer. Not a business strategy, but it'd keep you active.
I've had to do it since I have no time for workshops with my 2 girls, the youngest of which keeps me sleep deprived. PM if you want more info as it's probably not a popular way to do things.
Yes, the 3 installment plan is fab - during Saleabration you also get the starter kit at 15% off making it $169 right now plus a free set of your choice up to $47.95 - fabulous deal :-) You do have to make $300 a quarter tho - as someone else has said, you could offer your discount to friends if you just want to sign up for the discount...
But contact your demo fast to get those papers into SU - they need to receive them by March 31st for you to take advantage of the 15% off starter kit deal & extra free set :-)
If you are on the fence than I would say 'jump on the sign-up bandwagon! It's too good of a time NOT to sign up. Sounds like you enjoy stamping and more than likely will still be buying items so why not buy from yourself and get the discount instead of paying another demonstrator? That's why I signed up over 5 years ago.
And, make sure you're giving out the cards you are making to your friends & co-workers. When they see your beautiful work they will want you to teach them how to stamp!
Only thing none of my friends or co-workers stamp. Some scrapbook but they dont want anything to do with stamps.
SU! offers a lot more for scrapbooking than stamps--I bet if you share our DSP, your scrapbooking friends will LOVE it!
Since it sounds like you are taking the plunge (congrats--I don't think you'll regret it), make sure you do tell everyone that you are involved with SU! Even if you don't plan to do workshops, it will be the small orders here and there from people you meet that will help you with your minimums. And who knows, it could become a money maker (or at least enough to cover your habit)! Good luck to you!
I have to agree with all the ladies and jump in and share my $0.02!
I joined SU! in Sept of last year just to take the plunge and it was my birthday so I HAD to get myself a gift. *lol*
I do it more as a hobbyist as most of my friends are more into scrapping too, rather than stamping. Also, my co-workers all believe they're not creative enough to make cards and such.
But I still think it's the best decision I've ever made. I love their products so buying almost $300/quarter isn't so bad. Every once in a while a friend will buy something, but it's ok if they don't. I always have something on my wishlist!
I've been thinking of doing an Open House to do more sales or maybe book my first workshop, but I've got a lot going on right now (we're expecting baby #2 any day now!)... But I just wanted to say that being a SU! demo as a hobbyist is still possible! Good luck!
You will eventually find a couple people who order a couple things a month, which will make the remainder balance needed just right for the stuff you get. I have been a demo for 6 years in Feb. Sometimes I "ramp up" but I have been doing "just enough" for over a year new and it is pretty comfortable.

This thread has made me really start thinking about it. Think there is time still to get it all done before SAB is over? I'd like to hold workshops but don't know that I have anyone who would come at the moment. Maybe that would change though. And I spend about enough anyway on my own *sigh*.
And I suppose I would be supporting the economy?? Haha, recession what? That's how I'll reason it anyway and how I posed it to my DBF, hehe.
Signing up was one of the best decisions I ever made. I **thought** I would only buy for myself, but quickly learned that I could make a little money off of it too! I actually just got promoted to Senior Supervisor and I never imagined that I would make a business out of it. I don't think you can go wrong with being a SU Demo. I actually just posted my top 10 fave things about being a demonstrator on my blog because I had a gal sign up today : http://thescrapmaster.blogspot.com/2...ome-marci
