Talking How to scrap/stamp in a hotel

I wanted to show you guys what it is like to stamp in a hotel. My links aren't working for some reason but I have posted it in my gallery and on my blog.

I think the maid thought I was crazy!

I hope you have taken advantage of the indoor pool and jacuzzi (if available)
before you started stamping!
I say order room service ( large hot fudge sundae, extra hf and whip cream)
and keep creating!!!!

When go on vacation every spring break we go to a large hotel & indoor waterpark. I live in Wisconsin so the INdoor waterparks are a blessing! But when I need time to myself I stamp in our hotel room while DH and the boys are in the waterpark. And I always get up early in the morning so this is a perfect quiet thing for when they are all sleeping!

Something about us Arkansas gals and stamping in hotels... Whenever my DH and I go on a trip, I lug SOME of my stamping essentials with me to occupy my time while he's doing his "thing"...anywhere from Lake Degray to Houston, TX! I must admit, the maids do look at me with puzzled looks on their faces...that is, until I show them some of the projects! BTW...this is my first official post! I confess that I've been a lurker for quite a while now. Thanks for all the fantastic ideas from all you talented stampers!!

I don't think I'd ever have time to stamp during hotel stays...but I do draw up my next ideas.

I haven't done stamping in a hotel. But last vacation I did take a bunch of stamped images and Crayola pencils. So I managed to color maybe 3 of the images. I was with a bunch of "girls" and we played Scrabble or Rummi-Cubes or just enjoyed the warm evenings at outside cafes. Mmmmmm..... warm evenings. We don't have those where I live -- not even in the summer.

Last yr. after getting addicted to Gamsol Magic, we went on a short vacation. I didn't carry stampin' stuff, but I packed all my GM supplies and several stamped images. I did quite a bit of coloring during the drive as well as late nights in the motel. Very relaxin'! We're going soon to Atlanta and my stuff will accompany me! May God bless, Sandi

This thread made me laugh out loud. I have visions of a SU meeting that I attended for my group. My friends and I had two seperate rooms on opposite ends of the hall, and I can remember carrying the desk from one room down the hall to the other and giggling the whole time. I don't reccomend it, but it was hilarious!!

I stamped in Hawaii in the mornings before people got up...watched the sun come up and listened to the birds...also loaded my truck up to stamp while at a conference in NC...the maids had to have been blown away!

PS I would like to have Ares counted as a dog...just a bit bigger and won't bite you if you take his food way from him...

I went with my DH for a business trip and I stamped/scrapped all afternoon every day! I had so much fun hehe. I am sure the maid found little pieces of paper etc.

I made several cards during the stay at that hotel and left a thank you note for the maid.
I was on business so not much to do in the evenings by myself. I got A LOT done!

Love all the dog lovers!!!

Default Lots of business travel and I want to stamp!

Hi -- I was going to start a thread and found this one which was perfect. I am on the road every week and have some time after my meetings for "me." I'd like to work on stuff, but don't know what to take -- I can't pack a lot because I stay in one suitecase.

What do folks take with them? I'm really interested.

Thanks.

BChatzkel, I hope someone answers your question, because I want to know as well. People always talk about stamping in airports and stuff. (Some demos say they get customers this way) But what do you pack. I am going to my son's and he and his father play golf and leave me for a few hours. I would love to stamp.

Again what to bring?

I have worked on art in hotels- stamping, scrapping, painting. Hubby goes to chicago twice a year for work and I go with him and spend the week catching up on projects, shopping, etc. Me I take everything cause I go for a full week. heehee I know the maids are amazed at the mess I make. But I do clean up after myself.

I don't travel but I do take stuff everyday to work - I work with all men so they just don't get it and they call my box a Malibu Barbie box but whatever! What I do is I have this great two sided box - one side is just a large area that will hold 12x12 stuff no problem. I stamp my images on paper and stuff the dp that I'm going to use with it on that side. On the other side it's divided into a bunch of compartments and I put all the necessary stuff - scissors, gamsol, blending stumps, pencils, nail files etc and then I color away at brake time. I don't usually bring all the embellishments but sometimes I will pick those out ahead of time and throw them in there also. I've had the container for years got it from QVC and it's almost identical to the one they carry now by Cropper Hopper item #F155223 (and it's made in the USA!!!). HTH>

this turned out way longer than i thought it would... if you care to know the method to MY madness.

i don't really scrap much... my passion is to make cards.

a lot of times i make multiples of my cards (unless there is a special person or reason for a one of a kind) so when i am making the first one i put all the supplies i need for 3 or 4 more in a zip lock bag along with the completed one (don't forget the envelopes). i will cut to size the paper or CS, do any stamping, and include pieces of ribbon or other embellishment.

this way i don't HAVE to take all my ink pads, all my stamp sets, stacks of CS or PP.

i just have all these zip locks with cards ready to assemble. this is what i focus on when i go to a 'crop' or an 'open' stamping time at my demos house.

i sell my cards and i also like to give card sets as gifts this is why i make multiples.

some of the ladies i 'crop' with (i am the only card maker in the bunch) do the same kind of thing for scrapping just use a bigger bag! they have the layout for the page and include any PP, CS, and embellishments they want, put it in the bag.

i take basic tools...

pencil box with markers and pens i will need for some cards i have planned
eyelet setter, punch and hammer
regular scissors and a deco pair for a couple cards planned
bone folder
pen & pencil
tape runner a & glue stick

then i will add any 'special' tools i need for a specific card.

i also like to get my stuff packed early so i have a chance to actually sit over there and make other cards and possibly remember something i need to add to the bag.

good luck, have fun and i hope you don't forget anything!

This is so timely!! We are heading out for vacation in a few weeks and I have been debating on taking my stamping gear! What if it rains?? Aside from reading (and eating) ohh and shopping... see? It could be economical too!

I took my sons birthday thank you notes to stamp and color in while we were away over the holidays. I didn't do any in the hotels (we weren't in the rooms very much) but I did while we stayed at the inlaws. I plan on taking another project or two when we go this summer.

I've never tried taking my stamping/cardmaking materials with me on vacation; I don't know if I could ever get organized enough so that I wouldn't end up with a few extra major suitcases! I love the dedication you all have, though, that manage to do it when you are "on the road"!

When I traveled for this meeting in KC I drove so I had the benefit of being able to take things that wouldn't make it through the airport.
I took a big roll around scrapbooking back with DSP and CS that I picked out before i left. It also had my paper trimmer, stamps, ink (spots) punches a few rolls of ribbon that I picked out before I left and a few small tupperware containers of brads and eyelets.

I pretty much just made cards (no scrapbooking this time around). I wish I could figure out how to take it on the plane because I am headed for Charlotte on Wednesday

Last November I had a Girls Weekend with my family in Chicago. Most of them drove from Ohio so I was the only one flying from MD. I knew I would have a lot of down time in airports. I stamped and cut out 50 images for my Christmas cards and took some appropriate colored markers with me. Since I was sure that I would be using different layouts with the cards I just colored the pieces of the images that I knew would be the same no matter what. Trees are green and stars are yellow. Hanna's skirt was tan so that I could color her sweater to match the card. I colored in the airport, on the plane, while waiting for the rest of my family to arrive at the hotel and a few other down times while we were all sitting around watching TV/chitchatting and getting ready for our next adventure. By time I got back I had my Christmas cards half done. I ended up with a lot of extra images, but put those cards together at some point to send overseas for the troops next year

I usually take stamped images to color at the very least. If I'm flying, I usually have cards to assemble, images to color, and my catalog. If I'm driving, I'll take a couple stampsets, some cardstock, scissors, trimmer, inks, oh heck, I load the car with just about everything! Of course, I may not get to do much, because when I go on vacation, I have an agenda of things I MUST see and do, but some nights I just want to relax so I have my items with me.
