I have many many su sets, backgrounds, and too many to count from:
Pink Cat Studio, Bella Rosa, Stampsmith, Beeswax, Lindy's Stamp Gang, oriental from many companies, Magenta, Penny Black, Whipper Snapper, PSX, House Mouse, Onyx Expressions, Kitchen Sink, 2nd Star on the Right, Hearts in Touch, Stamping Ground, Art Impressions, I love RS, and many many other companies, but I think I will stop.

This is funny! My husband fishes (gotta have a boat), hunts (gotta have a quad/4 wheeler, expensive guns, bows, tags, ammo etc.) but I still can't seem to justify spending crazy amounts on stamps. Maybe I need an attitude adjustment Or maybe someone needs to be thrifty, and that someone is me

This thread made me go count my stamps which I have never done. Anyway hubby is out of town! I store all of my SU!, TAC, and Biblical Impressions in clamshells, so those added to 196. I have 59 sets from other companies, 13 from CTMH, 32 wheels, 27 backgrounds SU! and others, and tons of single stamps way too numerous to count. I have to say I am shocked by the number. In my own defense though, I did acquire many of my SU! sets and matching wheels from a demo that was retiring for $2/set.

I am not even close to owning all the stamps I originally wanted when I started. But because I have been unmounting I know how many SU sets I have unmounted so far, 47. Yep and the shelf is still loaded with them. I haven't even begun to look at the sets shoved in drawers, the one individual stamps I have displayed on little knick knack shelves. And a couple of years ago I sold over 20 sets on ebay.
Is there a "a rubber stamp anonymous meeting" anywhere?

I stopped counting a long time ago. Because:

1) What is the point of knowing how many? There is only one point in having a number and that would be knowing if you were about to reach a defined limit of how many is enough. I don't know if I WANT to know how many is enough...especially if it's a number I achieved with my last stamp purchase and I just saw the CUTEST stamp ever online!

2) Because if I knew how many, I might start calculating how much they cost and that would be depressing every time I looked at my cracked vinyl floor or the tuition bills that I pay for my kids' school and realize I could gotten myself a new house, two new cars, sent my kids to parochial school and all the way through college AND taken a world tour instead if I had only saved the money. Well...maybe not TWO cars.

3) It would be too frustrating to realize that while I have 2 million stamps (a wild guess, probably way off the actual number...by a million or so) I still haven't found the perfect _________ stamp (you can fill in the blank with your favorite type of image...penguin, elephant, daisy...pick one).

That said, I haven't kept every stamp I ever bought. I periodically get rid of the ones I'm done with...my house does have its limits as to how many stamps I can hold in it...DH would probably object to finding his closet filled with stamps ( but hey...he barely uses it anyway, right?) But I will say that buying some of them unmounted has definitely made a difference in how many I feel able to...um...welcome to my home.

Thank you ladies for making me feel better! I seem to fall at the lower end with numbers but I still don't make time to use them all. I need to move away from collecting and toward using!

Lets see I can fit about 100 sets in each drawer - 8 drawers full, then add in my unmounteds in the cd cases...extras for promotions, plus the 2 boxes that need to be assembled in some way...Good Lord! I must be pushing 900 sets...plus all my wheels...and sizzix...and...You don;t think I have an addiction, do you?

i keep an inventory, so i know exactly how many SU! sets i own. with jumbo and regular wheels it's right at 100. i also own several PaperTrey sets [5] and some CHF sets and backgrounders [that's another 6]. i don't track my individual stamps but i'd guess i probably have 50+ single stamps.

sounds like a lot - but it's not!

I have over a hundred SU sets and agree, it is kind of an addiction. I really need to get rid of some sets that I don't use. My biggest problem is figuring out what's in which set. I store them alphabetically, but probably need a better system.

3 other wood/rubber sets
and 28 miscellaneous wood stamps

How many stamps do I have? Just a drop in the bucket compared to most...but I have what I need for now, and when I need more, I'll buy more. I believe some like to "collect" stamps just to stand back and admire their "collection"...when they probably don't use 75% of them half the time. So, it's not about how many...it's about how much you enjoy the craft! Just my 2 cents.

I don't know how many I have but I'm not afraid to find out - which is probably a good sign - I know I have a box of stamps - that I wish I had never bought but haven't done anything with yet.

Default How do you organize them?

Ok - As I've been reading this thread - it has occured to me that stampers have the same addiction that we sewists have for fabric. I have an enormous stash of fabric that I have accumulated lo these many years. And my closets are bulging. But now I'm into card making also and have acquired what I believe to be alot of stamps. I've gotton them organized into drawers by type: foam blocks, wood blocks, clear blocks , and alphabet/motive sets.

But for those of you that have hundreds......thousands.......what is your orgainizing secret? How do you know what you have when you need it?

I know it's a challenge to organize fabric and notions, but at least fabric is large enough that you can eyeball your stash. How do you really see what stamps you have? Do you stack them? or group them? Or just throw them into a giant bin and riffle through them when your're looking for something?

I'm hoping to get some good ideas here, so I can try to structure all this stuff.

I have 228 SU stamp sets, that includes many backgrounds but no wheels. I recently dumped all my wheels on the Bay since I never used them. The number doesn't bother me - what is more depressing is that 3/4 ths of them are now retired, which is alot considering I was an SU demo until less than a year ago.

I also have about 12 CTMH wood mounted sets, about 100 loose Hero Arts stamps and about 30 from miscellaenous companies. I will gradually get rid of all of these, so that I'm totally SU.

Putting together the spreadsheet was definitely worth the effort for me, because since I've seen how much I have spent already - I've managed not to buy a single stamp from SU this year. (I know that's only 7 weeks, but its a start). I have sold some here and on the Bay and I'll use that money to fund any purchases I make. I'm determined not to continue to increase my "investment".

Well..let's see. I have

14 single unmounted
15 KF Snap Stamp Sets (includes alpha and numbers)
11 Heidi Swap clear singles
11 studio g clear sets (including Christmas)
4 See D's sets
8 See D's singles
29 clear sets
4 Bellas
3 TAC sets
1 TAC single
1 Quickutz clear set
20 (set) of DMD clear singles from J's
8 sets of MM foam stamps
35 Autumn Leaves clear singles
1 CTMH acrylic set
4 CTMH wood sets
1 off brand wood set
1 House Mouse clear set
23 SU! BG's
183 SU! Sets (in process of unmounting)
43 standard wheels
14 jumbo wheels
2 Martha Stewart stamp sets
1 Marcella K set
1 Inkadinkado set
305 singles

I have the quickstampz set to make these shapes all into stamps
5 complete Quickutz alpha sets
3 QK Theme Kits (5-6 shapes each)
6 QK Die Sets (about 6 shapes each)
193 Quickutz shapes

AS OF THURS more SU!
2 standard wheels
1 jumbo wheel
1 BG
8 sets

WHOLY COW!!!!!!! I knew I had a ton but this is the first time I've ever counted them! Hubby made the comment "well, if all your single wood mounted ones were 1.00 each then there's 350.00 alone". I'm VERY lucky that he could care less about it. I do the checkbook and he says if we can afford it then go for it. Ok...now that I added all my stamps up...there is NO WAY in this world I'm adding up the money part!!! LOL! The really sad part...my wish lists are HUGE!!!! Bellas, PB's, HM's.....and on and on....

ETA- Guess when I started stamping?! 1 Yr ago. I signed up with SU! in Feb of last year. Until then I'd never stamped in my life! I guess I really do have a *sickness*

I think a better question would be - how many sets do you have that you have not ever used???? That answer is too many also. If I sell them, then I will want them back and probably buy them again - which I have already done...

LOL!! Looks like we have the same problem. My solution is that I have two large cupboards, floor to ceiling. One has fabric, one has stamps. Stackable sets of drawers for notions and stamping accessories/tools; pegboard for the stuff that can hang; my ironing board is held up by stackable drawers on both ends. (I have my own small studio--small fridge, bathroom, sofa, rocking chairs for my friends...I can hide there for days and never come up for air!! And DH doesn't set foot in it....Iguess he's afraid of pins on the floor or getting stamped on!!)

Until I get my next order I'm at 90+ something SU sets. The order will push me into the 110+ range. I'm not even going to try and count the additional sets because there's way too many to count.

I have guessing 300+ SU sets - Misc stamps probably a few hundred and Acrylic sets probably a hundred too.... As far as organizing I have all my SU sets and wheels. UM in CD cases and Wheels are in 3 binders with the pages they stick on - I put my misc like Penny Black, House mouse etc in SU large cases catagorized by themes. Then my acrylic sets are on chipboard with acetate and containers. My background stamps and large stamps are in drawers.

I'm like Jimmi. Decided I should count just because the question keeps popping up. BUT, I was not about to start counting stamps, so I counted pages. I keep 99% of my stamps in 3-ring binders and have an "index book" that shows me what's in all the binders.
So far, 121 pages in the index book x 10 stamps per page = 1,210 stamps. Rough estimate! Not all pages have the same amount. And then there is a good size box with bitty little wood mounted stamps. Plus, there are all the "new" -- which doesn't mean they are really new, just means I haven't indexed them yet -- sets still in the SU packages.

I will guess at around 1000 stamps... but I will have to check... and do a little counting.. I would say the vast majority of mine are Penny Black stamps - and I organize them in big drawers I purchased from IKEA

Birthday only
Love/ Anniversary/ Easter
Penny Black Misc Hedgies
Penny Black Misc
PennyBlack People

Then I have smaller drawers

MFT sets
Bellas
House Mouse Summer
House Mouse Misc
Flower stamps
Collage stamps
big tub of background stamps
Clear stamps
Small stamps
Fluffles only
Huge drawer Christmas stamps
Elzybells in with the Christmas stamps in zip lock bags ( the Elzy's )
Nature themed stamps
Asian stamps

Well, you get the idea. It's amazing how organzed (yet still VERY MESSY ) a person can be. I can almost always put my hand on the very stamp I want.

SU sets...? 20?

Never mind my drawers for
embossing
Ink pads
chalk ink pads
ribbon drawers
bling embellishments
Embossing powders
Glitter drawers
stamp cleaners

I'd better stop right there.

I might count ----- but it would be scary!

I have been scrapbooking for 5 years, but only stamping for less than a year.
Clear:
I have about 20 of the $1 stamps from M's & ACM's. I also have about 15 sets of Technique Tuesday, 10 sets from Paper Trey Ink (I wish I had all of them, though!), 6 sets from KI Memories, 5 sets from Autumn Leaves, sets from Amuse, Inkadinkado, Rubber Soul/Wordsworth that total about ten.

Rubber:
3 sets from SU! (I am signing up to be a demo this month, so I should have LOTS more in the coming months), 10 sets from Hero Arts, about ten individual Amuse/Elzy stamps, and maybe about 30 individual stamps from various companies.

I really, really prefer clear stamps, but I love SU! sets, so I'm going to just have to get out my StampamaJig and use it!
