I have seen some amazing cards in the gallery that I would love to know how they are made. The top note die looks like a quilt. How do you do it?
I was thinking that you would cut the squares and glue them onto a piece of CS then run it through the machine. I would love to know.

Another way is to glue stips of dp to thin white cs and then cut them in strips the perpendicular way. Take these strips and glue them to another cs sort of alternating the pattern. Then run through your machine with the Top Note Die. Clear as mud????
*punch out squares
*adhere them with a glue stick to appropriate sized card front
*burnish the squares with a bone folder
*Run thru top note - or any other largish shape
*THEN!..... run it thru a texture plate -
all done
the texture makes it remind me of the chenille style quilts my grandma had at the lake house when we were growing up.
it is addicting - and a great way to use up scrap DSP!
I wish I'd read directions first! LOL I cut my paper. Why didn't I think of using the square punch? (DUH!) And, I don't have the Top Note Die (yet) so used one of my Nestabilities.
I was going to run it through my Cuttlebug for texture, but the designer paper I used had some embellishment on it so I thought it might be overkill.
The Top Note Die is a die cut that is in the SU catty. I know they have them in the Canadian and US SU books, I am not sure if they are available in the UK. You can use nesties or any other die cut for this technique as well.
Oh, wow! Thanks for the links to the pictures. I was having a really hard time picturing what the OP was even talking about! I don't have the top note die, but I do have the labels one nesties...what a great way to use up scraps!
Oh, I saw the video and it's great. I just didn't understand another way you said to do it with gluing strips to white carstock or thin white paper, etc. I am always looking for variations. I just can't quite, in my mind, visualize what you suggested to try as a different way to do the original squares. Thanks! chaun

How about this for a satin-look-pillow-top-type quilt - punch out the squares in a solid color (say pink), sponge the edges in a deeper color in the same family (say deep pink), glue them onto a sheet of white cs and then run it through the Big Shot on an angle with the Top Note die so they look diamond shaped.
You could even glitz up this 'pillow' type quilt with little white/cream beads at all the intersecting points. If you really wanted a stuffed satin pillow look, when you are done sponging the edges of the squares you could use the direct to ink pad route to put some 'gather' folds on each square.
For those of you who are visual, I will put this idea into practical form and post it...soon I hope. In the meantime, try it and see what you come up with!

Being a quilter (or ex-quileter since I haven't made one in years) I love this technique! Used my Pixie Sewing Machine that DH bought for me for the first time today. Here's mine:
I love the look too, I don't have a Top Note Die but Spellbinders Nestabilities so here is a sympathy card I made using this technique, punched squares out of old envelopes (the pretty insides!)
I thought, if ever there was a time you could do with a snuggly quilt, it is when you feel sad inside...
Can you put the Top Note die through a cuttlebug? I am really wanting the die but don't have a big shot.

Here is one I made some time ago- this was in the The Technique Junkies newsletter a while back- although I am an avid sewer, I used Embossing Powder instead of adding stitches. I gathered some ribbons to make the accents-this was SAB ribbons. If I ever wanted to mail this, I would have to take off the bulky rose and do something else with it..........
How do you do that?
