The truest light is always best! Daylight and if not available, then the brightest light you can get is good. Stand away from the card and zoom in sometimes works better than the camera flash directly on the card. And I usually try to back the card with a paper - I sometimes use white paper background, sometimes black. It depends on which looks better. I hope this helps a little, I am not an expert, but like you, I am continually trying to get a better image!

I always take my photos with the flash OFF and I set the card out on white paper, or a photo box. In addition, my stamping area has ONLY natural light bulbs. Almost all of my pictures are taken in the basement at night.

Example 1

Example 2

I do have a nice camera...an Olympus eVolt 500, but I also use my cheapie Canon point and shoot too.

I try to take my pictues outside during the day, but if I have to take pictures at night, I use the close-up mode on my camera and have the flash off. I use my desk light and have the card on a white background.

After I upload my picture from my camera, I use Photoshop Elements to adjust the color, highlights and contrast. With the card on the white background, PE "knows" what the adjustment levels should be.

Hope this helps!
