Default How did you build up your SU inventory

I have been stamping for a while and I have quite a few other brands of ink, paper etc... But I am itching towards trying to have matching everything (ink and paper). Did you buy all your ink pads and paper at the same time? Did you buy multi-packs and then add on? What'd you do?

I bought one SU color family that was my favorite -- I got the inkpads and paper. Later I bought colors that I particularly liked, one at a time. Now I'm a demo so I buy from myself, but there are still some colors that I don't have. In my opinion, if it's a color you really don't like you shouldn't buy it. If there's only one or two colors in a color family that you aren't in love with, I would go ahead and get the family -- but if you only like a few colors, I'd just get those individually.
Don't forget the re-inkers... when your pads start to dry out it's nice to be able to refresh them right away.

Oh yeah, the stampin' spots are a good, less expensive way to get lots of colors, especially if you aren't sure about some of them.

I started out buying spots in the color family I liked best, and buying an assorted pack of paper to see which colors I used most. I also got a few stamp sets. Now I'm in a club where I have a certain amount to buy each month, so I've been buying a few pads at a time, and an assorted pack of paper for that family if I don't have it already. If it's a color that I use a lot, I'll buy the paper pack as well. I also try to get the matching ribbon (if available) when I get the stamp pad. I'm working towards having all the stamp pads, and the club helps me do it a little at a time.

I was in a 10 for 10 club (10 months, spend $15 each month and one month you are the hostess) and ordered my classic pads 3 at a time. Now I'm a demo and I'm trying to get my craft pads, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg to get them, so I'm getting one here, one there when I need them. Although, I did purchase 2 families in the spots so I'd know if I liked them or not. So I've started getting the large pads in the color families I DON'T have and any colors I seem to use often in the spots....

The first SU! ink pads I got were the ones in my starter kit. I've been slowly getting the rest as I go. I have all of BB and SS. I just ordered 2 more EE, so I only need 2 more, but I only have 4 RR. I have an assortment pack of all the color families. I buy a pack of one color when I love it. For ribbon I started with the basics (white, black, vanilla) and have added on. I've been a demo for a year and am still working on stocking up.

I started with a few of the full size pads then ended up getting the spots to determine which colors I liked the best. I now have just about all of the full size pads in classic, and the craft spots since those I don't use as often. I love the fact that it all matches so 99% of my inks and paper are SU. I just did it a bit at a time.

got all colors in 3 color families a bit at a time, and the 4th is the earth elements, not a biggie for me, so I got the spots in those and any one of those I find myself using a bunch, I get the full size pad.

I hosted an SU! party and got a bunch from that, and then a few months later I signed up to be a demo. My first open house turned out REALLY well, and I wound up getting the rest of the colors from the profits of that. Those are the Classic Pads. With the Craft Pads (which I don't use nearly as much), I just got the spots and reinkers.

Absolutely worth it to invest in SU!'s color system--it's the BEST!

I love the bold brights, so I just bought what I could afford. I do try to buy an ink pad and paper together. I just need one more bb ink pad to finish. I have some others too. I buy the colors from the other families too.

i order at least one matching ink & CS almost every time i order anything.

if there aren't any stamps i am itching to get then i will get 2 or more colors.

i have about 1/2 or more of the full size classic ink pads. and a few neutrals and 'in' colors. i don't really dig the spots because they are a hassle to ink a BG with. and then i don't know if i will be getting any craft in pads. i don't really scrapbook- just cards mainly.

i did buy the many marvelous markers so i can color a stamp if i want a color that i don't have the pad for.

hope this helps...

good luck with your decision!

I am signing up next month to be a demo. I just bought on ebay all the craft spots for all the families (it was a better deal then I would have got purchasing it myself through su). Once I sign up I will get all the classic full size pads. I did it this way because I know I won't use the craft ink much. Not sure how I am going to do the paper yet.

I did like parrothead, used my first order (30% discount) and bought all the inks and one of each color family paper pack. It helps that I signed up during the pick your family promo so I got a free set from that also. Now I'm adding to the paper as I realize what colors I like or need more of and purchase ribbon as I go as well.

I started out by buying 2 packs of assorted card stock from each color family. I couldn't stand not having all of the colors and this was the easiest way to get them all. Then I purchased individual packs of the colors I liked the most until I had them all.

For inks I first purchased the markes in a caddy - so I had all 48 colors. For the full ink pads I purchased the two families I liked the most a few at a time, and then my DH bought me a third family for Christmas and I got the 4th for myself during SAB.

I really cannot imagine not having all of the colors at my fingertips, and I do use them all.

I joined a marker club to get all 48 markers and the holder (this was before I was a demo). The rest, I bought the ink pads a few at a time and several packs of the asstd card stock. Then I started buying the individual packs. My customers love the Classic Ink spots--they like getting 12 colors without breaking the bank. Ones they use a lot, they buy the large pad too.

Our Demo does a club for us...Club 6!! It goes for 6 months and each month the 6 of us place a $25 order (or more). We each take a month to get the hostess benefit. (and that person brings the treats )
Have fun...dont worry, before long you will have more than you know what to do with...its very addicting!!

I bought the paper and stamp pads from my favorite color family one month and then added the other color families as I could afford it. I still don't have the pastel colors but I figured if I wanted to stamp with them could stamp off from a similar color.

I started buying the ink pads one or two at a time, and I think I have all but eight of them. As for the paper, I bought assorted packs first, and then would buy individual colors as I needed them.

Oh, I also have craft spots in 3 of the color families, which gives me the colors I don't have.

i don't think of it as an "inventory"( More like cool stash) but, the simple answer is one party order at a time...

my first order was a few stamp sets, the kai scissors, the chalk sets, a pack of blender pens and an going grey ink pad. (many years ago)

Same here. The downside for me is that I'm a hobby demo 18 months later and STILL buying everything (LOL)! I have to say it's been a blast and I'll probably continue until I can't squeeze another stamp set or punch into my house.

I heard my demo suggest to someone to buy the spots and put a dot on the bottom of the pad each time they used it, so they know which ones they use the most.

I did a marker club with my demo and 3 other friends, that's how I got all the markers. She allowed us to do it every other month, so we could save up for two months at a time.

I also submit a wish list to her twice a year (xmas and birthday). My hubby and other family members will e-mail her and let her know how much to spend. She picks things off my wish list. She is so wonderful she wraps them up for my family (handstamped wrapping paper of course) and delivers them!! Thanks Jane (:

Even though I am a demo for The Angel Company I still purchase Stamps and supplies from Stampin' Up!

I buy a little at a time to my SU supplies.

Just like I have done with TAC. I purchase a little at a time.

Paper packs, Tools, Markers, ink pads and spots,

I try not to go overboard on my spending....But sometimes I do.

Oh well.

Of course I purchase more of TAC stuff than I do SU. Only because I can demo TAC stuff and I can't with SU.

Fear not... lots of stampin' love has been spread elsewhere too! (Papertrey, Bellas, Flourishes, Verve, Spellbinders, Marvy, etc.) I decided to stay around a little while longer since it's SU's 20th anniversary this year, but at some point I need to stop the madness!

I bought 2 whole sets at once when I signed up another whole set during a promo soon after and the final set a couple at a time. Similar for markers and then got the missing 7 here on the BST board all at once.

I decided which family had the MOST of my favorites, then ordered assorted packs of that and ink pads of my most fave colors. Then I got spots (still don't have Bold Brights!) in the other 2 families and ordered pads & cardstock in my most used colors. By now I know what I use & don't use.

I've been buying inkpads/reinks/markers 1 or 2 at a time for a number of years but recently decided I just had to have them all. I encouraged my SU! demo to find some folks to do a hostess club so that's what we're in the midst of a 6 mos. commitment for $25. I buy 2 colors w/pad, reink and marker and then I am filling in the odds and ends of reinkers and markers I was missing from shopping willy nilly. I also had a coworker who signed as a demo explicitly to get the free family so she shared her discount on her first order so I just bought the whole Earth Elements family of pads on that. I should have all of the colors by March or so. Might still be filling in the EE reinks and markers. Paper, I bought one family earlier this year but would like to have a package of each family.

I will still have a mixture of old style and new pads and I don't know how long I'll tolerate that. Depends on how I organize myself in the new home I hope to get in 2008.

I also have a few colors in craft only. I'd like to get the classics in those and some craft in others but that will be a while. I have stamp sets I want too that I'm hoping won't be on the retirement list on 12/1 that will have to come ahead of those priorities.

So much stuff, so little money.

I got the one color groupthat was my favorite, along with two assorted packs and some white, black and vanilla. Then my birthday came along and I hinted to my DH that I'd like another family of inks. He contacted my demo and voila, I got another color group and 2 more assorted packs. Then Christmas came and santa took care of the other 2 color groups!!! Now I'm a hobby demo so I can stock up on more paper and ribbons etc. Don't know how long I will be a demo but it's nice to get the discount.

Maybe santa will visit you too!!! hehe

I just kept placing an order once a month. Now I'm in astampers 10 group and still place my $50.00 once amonth. We only have to spend $15.00 but mine always end up being $50.00. I get a stamp set some inkpads and something else usually.

I bought mine all at once. I am not a demo. I just save all my purchases for Sell-a-bration time.
