Question How can I remove Alene's Tack it over & over from my stamps?

All my stamps are unmounted and have Alene's Tack It Over & Over on them. Is there an easy way to remove it??

The reason I want to remove it is to store them in a different way. I recently wanted to use a stamp right away and used double stick tape to stick it to my acrylic block and was extremely please with how well that worked. So the mind starts thinking and if I got the Alene's off the stamps I could store them in a different manner.

Any ideas????? Thank you in advance.

Default Removing Aleene's Tack-It Adhesive

Try an adhesive pick-up eraser (used for removing rubber cement so probably available at at office or art supply store) or Goo Gone (clean back of stamp well as Goo Gone is oily).

It says on the back of bottle to use rubbing alcohol to remove dried adhesive from your work surface. You're not supposed to use it to clean ink off stamps but it's probably OK to use it on the back for this one time use. Directions also say to use vegetable oil to clean your hands so that might work on a stamp too, but like Goo Gone would need to clean well to remove oily residue. Maybe after they're all cleaned you could put them all in a mesh bag & throw them in the dishwasher or washing machine!

I don't think there is any quick & easy way to remove that adhesive. If you have a lot of UMs that would be quite a project, so I would recommend being sure you will like the new storage method & that its benefits make it worth the time & effort to remove the Tack-It.

How do you store them now & what method are you considering after removing the Tack-It?

You might try putting powder on the back to take the stickiness away? I dunno. Good luck!

I would try dropping the stamps in a pan of warm water for at least 30 minutes then wash them like you do dishes with a mild soap. I think it would take little effort to get the glue off. Most of it will come off in the soak phase.

I rubbed it off with an eraser. Wish I had never put that stuff on my unmounteds but I did not know that I would end up with a mess using the stuff. Through out the bottle and went to EZ mount and now my thousands of stamps are really fun to use again!

I love my Aileen's but there are a few stamps I think would work better with foam so am subscribing to see if this works.

So give us an update when you try it

I think that Debra's idea would work. I have always used rubbing alcohol and it works great, too

Put them in a shallow container and cover them with likewarm water. Let them sit for 30 minutes or so, the Tack it over will rolloff in a white clump.

Wash your stamps off in a bit of soapy water, rinse and pat dry. You should be set to go!

Smile thanks, here are the results so far

Thank you all!

I have a stamp in lukewarm water & soap right now -- I'll let you know how that turns out.

I tried the rubbing alcohol and the glue did not come off very easily. I'm going to try it again, maybe it was just that stamp.

Through a [email protected]@gle search I found a site that said to use acetone (not nail polish remover but pure acetone) to remove the glue. Well I don't have time to go searching the drug stores for that but I had some nail polish remover that has acetone in it. I put a small amount in a dish and set the stamp (glue side down) in it, left it there for about 30 seconds, took it out and used a paper towel on it. The glue came off but got sticky again (causing the paper towel to stick to it) fairly quickly. I'm going to try this one again but use an old cloth instead of paper towel.

Right now I store my stamps on page protectors in 3 ring binders. My main issues are that the binders are heavy and that when cleaning the stamps many times the stamps slide off the acrylic block once they are wet. My thinking is using Cropper Hopper's new embellishemnt drawers to hold them instead. I'm still thinking about it.

Oh, great thread! I have been wanting to take the ATIO&O off my unmounted stamps for ages ... I switched to the Tack n Peel on a few of my blocks and I like that much better. I might try to soak off my glue today!

For those that do not have any "stickiness" on the back of your unmounted stamps ... how do you store them?

Thanks!

I too would like to know how others store non-sticky UMs -- the only downside to Tack N Peel, I think. Right now they are still in CD cases, stored horizontally. (I'd love to make CDs work for consistency -- I now put my SU stamps on vinyl cling and they are all in CD cases.)

Cool Here is my thought

I'm hoping I can get this picture pasted here. I'm thinking of using Cropper Hopper's divided storage boxes.

I store everything by catagory now and this way I can grab, use, clean, throw back in. I have all my images stamped on to a rolodex so finding a stamp is very easy.

If anyone else has unmounted, non-sticky stamps I'd love to know how you store them.

I had some alphabets that I hadn't gotten the tio&o on yet; to keep them from being a mixed-up jumble I just put some double-sided poster tape on an index card and stuck them to that.

I prefer the poster tape to the regular double-sided tape because it comes back off without leaving any residue.

cbet -- thanks for the storage idea and tip on the poster tape. I was thinking about putting double-sided tape into the CD case -- nice to know something similar is working for someone else.

Default update

Well I tried Goo Gone and it worked the best. I was concerned since it says not to use it on rubber but i tried it anyway. After removing the glue I put the stamp in warm soapy water to get all of the Goo Gone off it. I then rinsed it in warm water that I added glycern to, figured it would condition the stamp. This process was time consuming and messy. Also I learned that Goo Gone disolves wax paper....thought that was interesting.

I'm going to go grab a stamp now and try the white eraser.

I'm still trying out different ways to store my the stamps that are now unmounted & un-sticky. Love to hear any more suggestions.

Remind me to NEVER put this stuff on the back of my unmounted stamps! It has taken me hours this past week to soak and scrub the backs of all my unmounted stamps (I have over 100 and some are very small ... which makes it harder to scrub!).

I am going to try the white eraser for the last 20 or so stamps ...

WOW! The white eraser works really well!!!! Some of my stamps it did not work on but I'm just putting those aside to use the Goo Gone on.

Does anyone put the Aleene's Tack it Over & Over on their acrylic instead of the rubber? I was wondering how that would work.

I've heard of folks doing that, and they seemed pretty happy with the results. They stored their blocks stuck to wax paper or some other surface to keep gunk from collecting on the adhesive. That would affect the view a little while you're stamping, but you'd still be able to see pretty well. Have you considered Tack n Peel by Tsukineko?

Sarah,

I'm interested to know why you hate TIO&O so much. I have just started removing my stamps from wood blocks and just apply the TIO&O to the rubber, let it dry, unstickify (love that word?) it and mount it to glossy cardstock cut to fit a 6x6 album refill sleeve. That is how I am storing my stamps now and have had no problems so far. I guess I want to know if I might have a problem down the road that I don't anticipate right now.

Thanks!

Well, "hate" is not exactly the word I would choose to describe TIO&O ...

I would say, "strongly dislike" ... only because eventually I found that the TIO&O was starting to stick to the cd cases/photo album pages I had the stamps adhered to ... and it was coming off my stamps. And it has been a BEAR to get it all off my unmounted stamps.

I just love the fact that with the Tack n Peel I can just cut my stamps and not have to mess with the TIO&O.

Hope that helps!

I used the double stick tape on the blocks. Honestly, I don't like it. The tape is a PITA to get off the blocks when it's stick is all gone. You can get it off, it's just difficult sometimes. Then if you want to use acrylics, you have the stain from the tape, or if you are too lazy to take the tape off, you have to deal with not seeing your stamp perfect.

I have an adhesive remover that is made from DUCK (maker of Duck Tape/Duct tape). I don't know if it would work on glue though. Some of those adhesive removers are only for tape or non-glue adhesives. I use that adhesive remover to get my double stick tape off my blocks...the tape has been on a few remaining ones a while and I just haven't taken the time to take them off...but it worked for others. Works great on getting stickers and other things off new bowls and such.

What is Tack & Peel?

I'm glad to hear you like the Tack N Peel. I have looking at that lately at Recollections and was wondering it worked well. It really would be easier to just keep that on all my blocks and not have to mess with EZ Mount or TIO&O. How do you store your blocks so the Tack N Peel stays clean and tacky? I guess I could read some of the previous messages in this thread. I think someone mentioned it earlier.

Anyway, thanks for the great ideas.

Vicki,

I Googled Tack N Peel and found this from the manufacturer's website.

My previous questions about storing the blocks were answered also. Sounds like a great product. Off to Recollections.

Glad I found this thread! Lots of good info.
Here is my question. When you unmount SU stamps do you leave the coushin stuff on or take it all off down to the stamp?

Well, my answer is yes and yes. Lot of help, aren't I.

Seriously, I have done my unmounting three ways:

1. Rubber only and use double-sided tape (although I did buy Tack N Peel today and plan on using that a lot)

2. Remove rubber and foam cushion and apply Tack It Over and Over (see above discussion)

3. Remove rubber and apply to EZ Mount cling cushion and use with acrylic blocks.

All three work for me, but I think once I get used to Tack N Peel, I will go that route with all my stamps. I love the convenience of WM, but space and storing methods are definitely issues to overcome.

I have unmounted every SU< HA< TAC any thing and everything! They all have Aileen's Tack It over and over and I have no problem with it!

I use no cushion of any kind on any of my stamps!

I totally agree with Sarah. I put the TIO&O on hundreds of my stamps after unmounting down to bare rubber. What a nightmare! It does not show up right away, but after storing them for a couple weeks to a month or so, the TIO&O will eventually stick to whatever you are storing them on and pull off of the stamp. It was ridiculously hard to get off. I would never do it again. For me, bare rubber is definitely the way to go.

I've got to try this stuff! Sounds perfect.

On the website you quoted I saw this about storing the blocks:

When finished, remove the stamp or design object and replace the saved clear liner to protect the surface until ready to use again.

So I guess you save some liner from when adhearing the stuff to the block. I'm off to see if I can find this stuff.

Also, I changed my mind on storing my stamps. I found full sized CD cases (previously I have only been able to find the thin ones) and I am using those. So nice. And they fit in my Target cube's drawers so they are organized and out of site.

I am removing my wood mounted stamps from the wood. They take up sooooo much space. I am removing them WITH the foam attached. I have purchased the DVD cases to keep them in and want them to be sticky for storage purposes. What then is your recommendations? Does the tack and peel stay on the foam? Does the ATO&O slip off of the foam or are you talking only the bare rubber?

Where did you find the full sized DVD cases?

If I remember correctly from Aleene's craft show ages ago, you're supposed to use mineral oil or veg. oil to remove their glue. Yuck, that's why I prefer Tombow mono multi. Does the same thing and washes off with water.

I am so glad to read all of this info on TIOO - I was just reading about it somewhere and even though I use Tack 'n Peel now, I thought I could just remove that and regain the blocks for cling/clear stamps.

I'm going to stick with Tack 'n Peel because I'm too lazy to do any more EZ mounting . I unmounted years ago (a pioneer, LOL!) and even once I started using a hot knife. . . it was a long process and I'm glad that's over!

I've been looking at some bare rubber stamps again anyway so maybe I'll be getting more use of my Tack 'n Peel blocks now and it's probably well worth it.

Thanks for the info!

Default Aleene's Tack It O&O not a good idea at all

I am going to try the white eraser for the last 20 or so stamps ...
Me, too! I did the same thing this weekend and I will NEVER put the Alleene's Tack It stuff on any of my stamps again. It made my acrylic blocks a mess, and sometimes practically tore the stamp itself when I tried to loosen it from the plastic DVD case. The only thing that worked for me was WD-40 on the sticker part, scrape with the back of a table knife, then a quick, cool, soapy Dawn bath afterwards. What a pain and messy job! I won't be so quick to follow someone's untried advice in the future.
