We've had 100 degree+ temps here in Oklahoma for the last several weeks!

I just can't get inspired for holidays yet. I'm assuming you mean Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas?

I usually wait until fall to get into holiday mode. If I start too early, I just change my mind when it gets here - and wish I'd done something else.

I agree with Bugga. Who would be thinking about fall and winter holidays in July? Let's enjoy the season we're in and worry about months from now then.

Being part of the CCC11 Christmas Card Challenge here on SCS has kept Christmas in mind all year. It's great fun and you can join any time.
I'm making microwave potato bags and casserole covers for Christmas this year.
Need to start now as I have a large family.

It is hot here in California also. However I am already thinking and planning for fall my favorite time of year. Followed very closely by winter my second favorite time of year. Saw a sneak peak of SU Holiday mini yesterday. Which made me want to get started even more.
I wish that the SU fabric was able to be purchased in larger size cuts.I want to make aprons pot holders etc. with recipe cards to match. For my DD ,sister and nieces using my moms recipes. She passed away six years ago. I want to copy them onto card stock so they remain in her own hand writing then stamp them to match fabric pieces. So I will need to make six sets. I need to get started soon.
But I am also determined to make fall / Thanksgiving cards this year. I say that every year and then the time just slips away. Maybe if I start now it may happen this year.

I love the idea of getting started on my Christmas cards early. Perhaps more people would get handmade ones that way. But I like to wait until I see some new Holiday stamps from my favorite companies; and those don't all come out as early as July. It's always something I wrestle with.

Other than cards, I don't have anything in mind to make for the holidays. Although, I did get an advent box/calendar kit that needs lots of DP to decorate it. My son says he wants to use the one I made a few years ago ( directions from here on SCS )...but I'd rather use this new one. It's a Kaisercraft one with the little drawers. We'll see.

Advent calender great idea! I buy one every year for five year old niece. I never thought to make it instead. She would love it. She is one of my best stamping buddies. My sister says she is my mini me.

I am trying to come up with a desk calendar for my co-workers. I bought a BIA for just this purpose and want to get going soon so I am not doing them at the last minute, then just giving up because I didn't plan ahead.

I also want to start making Christmas cards with all of my old (and some never used yet) stamps from many years ago. I figure if I come up with one or two designs a week, I should be good. I have a lot of older Christmas stamps. Many of them are D.O.T.S.

I started on my Mom's christmas cards already. I made a few samples and she picked the wreath made with the pine branch Martha Stewart punch. I need 75- so far I have 30-40 done. There are 25 puncheed branches about on each wreath. I work on it every few days, gotta let my hands rest up. Once I finish all the wreaths, I will pry not work on the cards for a month or two... I ordered the cardstock already tho, and have all the supplies.

I also have THREE advent calanders to decorate. Pry should start on them...

This is an awesome idea! My mom passed away 1 1/2 years ago, and this would be a very special thing for my sisters and niece. DD is only 9 but I'd probably make her one, too.

I'm putting together an 8 x 8 album for my son. It briefly covers his 22 years and is full of techniques from the Technique Junkie Newsletter. They have loads of backgrounds. Lots of stamping in there.

For my daughter, I made her a paper bag album of her young years. There is lots of stamping in there.

Also working on a paper bag recipe book for my daughter.

I'm ahead of the game this year.

I've just started thinking about the holidays. I know it's early, but I have a shop that sells some of my cards, and they need them a month or two in advance, pluss I have my own to do. I was thinking of offering to make them for my parents too. They always give gift cards, I thought it would be fun to make them cards with matching gift card holder/envelopes, using the same dp as on the card, or the same stamp, something like that. Also, I thought I might make sets of cards as gifts for family members. Wow, when I think about all I want to work on WHY HAVEN'T I ALREADY STARTED! GOTTA GO GET BUSY NOW..,.

I have been working all summer on my christmas craft show items. I have a busy fall scheduled with working and attending graduate school, but am determined to still do the shows.

Today, I put finishing touches on my glass magnets. Now I just have to order the magnets and glue them on.

I have not been able to do anything Christmas themed yet though!

Oh my goodness!!! What a great daughter you are! That is a lot of work.

I was participating in a challenge to do cards each month, but I ended up only getting through March! I have a lot of cards to make. I also am dealing with the horrible heat and humidity, but staying inside with the a/c on is a good reason to stamp!

I make Christmas cards year round---so I am ready to go for the holidays!

Also, I give away alot of cards at the holidays as well (baskets of hand-made cards to co-workers, family, friends) and always do an assortment, including some holiday cards. People love them and I "gently" get asked for a "repeat gift" year after year! Fun for them to receive, and fun for me to make year-round!

For all of you thinking of making an Advent calendar, hold that thought until you have seen the SU! Holiday Mini. There is a very clever, cute one in there, complete with punches, dies, and stamps.

SU has this fabulous Advent Calendar in the Holiday Mini that I just love. There is also a Bigz L Die to make the window frames and there are 25 stamps in the stamp set. I've never done an Advent calendar before but I am really tempted to get this set.

most of my cards are made (I didn't send any last year so I have a bunch left over). I am then going to turn to some gifts.

I've started working on my cards, and I do have a few gifts purchased already and stashed away. I make cookie tins for my family and neighbors. We don't exchange a lot of gifts - mostly for my two nephews who are 3 and 5.

Here's the Baked Potato Bag information.

Be sure to use ONLY cotton thread, fabric and batting. There is a special batting called "Warm Tater" that I use.
The reason for only cotton is that synthetics will start on fire in your microwave.

The bags are great!

The potato bags look interesting. I might have to try this. I'm wondering what the paper towel does and if it is necessary to use it inside the bag.

The bags are great!
What is the advantage of microwaving a potato or reheating rolls in one of these bags? I'm sure I'm missing a very obvious reason.

Is it just to absorb the moisture that would normally form on the inside of the microwave? Does it actually improve the quality of the heated/cooked food? Does it change the cooking/heating time?

Obviously I'm facinated by these.

Where do you find the "Warm Tater" batting?

These sound like unique gifts for my cooking friends.
Thanks for any additional info.

I'm assuming the main advantage is to free up a burner on the traditional stove and not have to turn your oven on to heat rolls in the heat of summer. The bag itself should help foods heat more evenly.

When I was younger, the most popular microwave recipe for teens was to make a cheese dog with a wiener, slice of cheese, a piece of bread or a hotdog bun, wrapped up in a napkin, and nuke it, for around 45 seconds (I can't remember the exact amount of time). The napkin keeps moisture in the bread and stops it from getting hard and crusty in spots. But I'm assuming the sewn potato bag would negate the need for the paper towel and keep moisture in the bag. With most things in the microwave, covered containers work best because it keeps moisture in and helps heat more evenly.

Regarding the potato bag:
I am not a scientist.
All I know is this thing works to make a very fluffy baked potato.
From what I've seen in using it, the paper towel absorb the water. You can only use it once; and then it must be dried completely before you use it again.
Perhaps someone else can explain the science behind this thing!

I purchased "Warm Tater" at our Discount Fabric Center. If I could find "Warm Tater" here in Hawaii, I'm sure you can find it anywhere on the Mainland US.
Hope that helps.

I just came across this thread in my subs. How is everyone doing on Xmas projects? I have bought supplies for several swaps, Xmas stockings that I will alter, and have been saving jars for jar gifts. Now I need to get busy creating.

Well my Thanksgiving cards are all done...I make Christmas year round so I have enough for the troops and all the other things I support. I am loving this conversation about potatoe bags...
blessings.
