Help, please!

I have started mounting some bare rubber stamps on EZ-mount, using a hot knife. It's going ok, except my fingers are constantly sticky from the EZ-mount, which then makes it a mess. I'm trying to not touch the back of the mounted stamps so the cling doesn't get sticky, but I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've tried other methods (TIO&O, double stick tape, etc) but I really prefer cling foam. One other thing I've noticed is that the sides of the mounted stamps are sticky, too. Does this wear off in time or is there something I should be doing for that issue, too? Thank you all so much for your input!

Are you mounting them on wood? sound like you have double stick mount instead of the cling mount for clear.

It's a messy job. Personally, I didn't enjoy the hot knife and only used it when I had several full sheets to cut. I would say that the stickiness decreases a bit with time.

You can dust any exposed adhesive with baby powder before cutting and this should help.

I haven't ever done this, so I was curious. Here's a YouTube of someone doing it, and she does talk about how she does it and addresses the stickiness issue, which I guess is pretty unavoidable. At least you can watch someone else and see if there's anything you might do differently:

I didn't even know what a hot knife was. Very interesting and much faster than scissors. But I think I am too much of a klutz to use one safely. ;-)

This is a pretty good video demonstrating the use of a hot knife, however I do 2 things differently.

1. I would never hold the image in my hand while trimming. I think this is asking for an accident to happen. I peel the cling side of my foam and stick it to a glass mat, then I peel the sticky side, adhere my stamps and proceed to cut on the mat.

2. I still use the baby powder. Yes it is messy, but I hate the sticky mess made without it more. You don't have to sprinkle the powder. You can use a cotton ball to pounce it on.

Thank you all so much for your advice! Rachel, I hadn't seen that particular video and it's a good one! And you're not alone, Rachel, 'cause I'm a terrible klutz. I'm just really, really, really careful when I use the hot knife. I'm going to try the baby powder today. I agree with you, Arizona, about not holding the stamp in my hand! I've been cutting them the same way you do, flat on a glass mat. I like the idea of dusting with a cotton ball! That sounds like much less of a mess than sprinkling. I just feel better knowing I'm not alone thinking this is a sticky job! ;)
