Default Help! My Dog ate my stampin' Mist...

The darn little guy must have gotten the bottle off my desk. It is the small mister...and there was not much in it...less than 1/4 of the bottle...He chewed up the bottle and the carpet is wet where the bottle was laying...so I don't know if he actually ingested any. the only thing I can find on the bottle is "do not ingest" eye irritant...but no ingredients....

The vet is closed...

Any suggestions? Could a SU rep tell me exactly what is in the mist???

He seems fine...but who knows...I'm a little worried.

Colleen I found this in the Forum at SU hope it helps!

stampin' mist:

Inhalation of Stampin' Mist can cause slight respiration irritation.
Ingestion of mist or ink can cause gastrointestinal distress or nausea- if ingested in large quantities consult a physician.
If in contact with eyes, can cause irritation and will need to be flushed with clean water.

I think I remember reading somewhere that it has glycerin in it. If that's the case and he did drink some of it you might want to stay be the door while he works it out of his system.

I would think if they ate enough it would make them sick. I believe its some kind of soap is all. I don't believe my dogs would eat it but then you never know they eat just about anything but reflex would believe they would upchuck it if they ate enough. Try calling SU and see what they say. I looked on my bottle i couldn't find any ingrediants.

Thanks gals...I just contacted an "on call" vet and explained the situation...he said to watch for drooling and puking...and yes...I thought it had some kind of soap or glycerin in it too...so he said that I may want to keep him out of doors if possible for a bit.

But the vet said he should be okay...Phew! Thanks for your quick responses.

I know why puppies are cute...because otherwise I would want to get rid of the little bugger!

hugs!

I see you have the answer but for future incidents, If you are EVER in doubt and it's not acid or something sharp, go outside and force down some hydrogen pyroxide down their throat. Not much, go in small incriments until they throw up whatever it is they ate. You can also look online what not to use this method for. But its very few things.

I had to do this with my dog once when he ate 2 WRAPPED boxes of valentines candy.

Yep. Hydrogen peroxide. You should find out the amount per weight from your vet. My dog (9 lbs) took 1/2 tsp and she barfed like crazy after eating a 2 lb bag of m-n-m's.

I would think the glycerin may give your doggie diarrhea, but I assume will be just fine!

Thank gals! I never knew about the hydrogen peroxide thing. Good to know. And he is still running crazy, so he must not have gotten too much. Although he HAS gone outside a TON tonight. Serves him right...poor puppy!

hugs ladies!

I'm glad he seems to be feeling ok!!

For comparison sake... My 80 lb dog took 4 tbsp to get him to throw up.

I had no idea re: hydrogen peroxide either and I've had dogs for too many years to count. Boy the stuff you learn on this site! Amazing.

Happy to hear the puppy is okay!

I am so glad your dog is going to be okay.

If you don't have hydrogne peroxide, I understand a teaspoon of mustard mixed with water will work. My MIL tried it on my dog when she got into chocolate when she was dog sitting for us. Worked like a charm.

I would call a poison control center. My 6 pound dog accidentally ate part of a cotton ball with nail polish remover on it, and they were able to tell me EXACTLY what to do! Very helpful.

Glad to hear your pup is alright and also so happy to hear that other dogs eat anything and everything. My pup (almost 1 year old) will eat absolutely everything! We've been to the vet about 5 times in the last year for various forms of gastrointestinal issues. Maybe next time, I will try the hydrogen peroxide. Darn puppies! When will this stop?

Oohh that is so scary when the dogs eat something they shouldn't. I know I freak out when my dog gets ahold of something that isn't appropriate!

Glad to hear your dog is going to be fine.

Once my mom's dog got into my aunt's diet pills and he had to have his stomach pumped and he was in the vet hospital for a couple days. They said that if they didn't catch it when they did that he would have died. Thank God he is still with us today and that was several years ago.

Just like with humans, you should not give anything to induce vomiting till you check with a medical professional. Vomiting could cause even more damage on the way back up. Best to call your vet, an emergency vet or poison control. The plastic bottle could be just as dangerous as the liquid in the bottle.

Default It must be in the air!

Yes, it must be in the air because today I have a Groovy Guava Australian Cattle Dog puppy! My husband called and wanted to know what the "dark brown bottle was that now had holes in it on the floor of my stamp room. That's what I get for being in a hurry and not shutting the door! Yikes!!! It's going to be messy but at least its not the most expensive thing she could have gotten into. Thank God its waterbased! I too, have light carpet and no she didn't limit herself to the plastic carpet protected around the desk area!!! SU uses blue's w/ guava right? At least she stayed color coordinated!

OMG...I know it isn't funny, but we really have to laugh at stuff like this. I hope you can get the stain out of the carpet (we got ours replaced and got wood floors...no more stains!)

You ARE taking photos of the GROOVY GUAVA dog aren't you??? ;)

Dogs are amazing aren't they? hahah... My dog ate the 2 boxes of valentines candy. 1 had not even been opened, so he removed the plastic, ate the candy and somehow managed to get the top back on. No lie. They are smart buggars. If it hadn't been on the floor unwrapped I wouldn't have known.

Sorry to hear about your pup---glad he will be ok...

Never can tell what dogs OR kids will do.

I guess now that if you need to clean your stamps--just can just have him cough on your scrub pad!

Yes, always be careful of inducing vomiting before calling poison control, or in my case, my vet who is wonderful! My dog also ate a cotton ball with NP remover. If you induce vomiting in this case, it can do more damage by ripping a hole in their stomach/esophagus. He told me to give her bread and milk to coat her stomach. This food obsessed pup had NO problem with that!
