Default help coloring chickens

I love this stamp of chickens by Penny Black.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...%3D4%26ps%3D42

But my question is this. Seriously, how do you color white chickens if you stamp them on white paper? Do you color them a different color of white, or stamp them on colored paper and them color them white? Or is the black ink border enough and you don't have to worry about coloring them?

How do you all color something white on white?

Copy the color label on the stamp. If you look closely you'll see where they've added gray shadows and shading for depth. Another option is to make them a different kind of chicken-reddish brown for example. Cute stamp!

I agree with Susan_T. Her suggestions are great. If you really want your chickens to stand out, you could paper piece them onto a darker cardstock. Since they are sitting down, you wouldn't have to worry about amputating a leg or two when cutting them out.

Hi Debbie,

You've received some wonderful suggestions. Usually, when I'm coloring something that is white, I use a little gray inside the image along the lines, and I might add a backwash outside the image. Probably easier to see what I'm talking about than read the words....I don't have chickens as an example for you, but I did find this rabbit in my gallery, that illustrates what I'm trying to say....

Best thing to do...just play around with these different suggestions. You'll find one that looks best to you. Good luck!

I was thinking that you could flock them, or perhaps use stickles. I think the chickens would appreciate looking a bit sparkly, they'd feel fancy that way.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I love all your suggestions and am going to get the chicken stamp and try them all.

LittleSeaOtter, your card is beautiful and I see what you mean about the backwash. I did that one time but mine just looked like a blue ring around my animal.

I will practice!

I love the Penny Black chickens!! I use the Bliss Blue or Bashfull Blue markers around the edge of the chicks. It is a prettier color to coordinate with the red and black than grey. A bit more festive!! You can see a sample of chickens in my gallery. Enjoy your stamps!
