Heat setting with an iron?

I was reading about stamping on clothing and realise that you should a) wash the item before stamping on it b) use the right ink and c) heat set the ink

So, can you use your iron to do the heat setting part? If so, how exactly?

No steam and a thin sheet of cotton between the iron and the stamping? Or directly on the stamping?

When I use an iron to heat set anything, I use a sheet of clean paper between the item and the iron and no steam. I've also used the clothes dryer to heat set.

Yep, I do the same as cat_woman - sheet of copy paper over the stamping and hot iron with no steam. You can also put the fabric stamped side down onto a sheet of paper or fabric and iron the back of the design. I've never yet had any ink transfer to the paper either way but I always figure it's better safe that sorry, you don't want ink smeared over your iron!

I've had better luck with heat setting, either with an iron or in the dryer, if I let the ink air dry for a long time (I leave mine overnight).
