Default grrr Basic Black Classic Ink SUCKS!!!

I couldn't find my Palette Noir nor VersaFine Oynx Black in my stash (this means I need to clean up my area lol). So I had to resort to using Basic Black... man this ink looked like it has purple tint to the stamped image. I used Baraque Background on white cardstock and SU Basic Black cardstock... what a HUGE difference in the black ink and cardstock. This inkpad is going in the trash!

I resisted for awhile before I bought a Pallette Noir pad, but now that I finally gave in and got one, I have to totally agree!!! Who knew how much better it could be!! Coloring with it looks better, and it seems to make cleaner lines too!! I havent gone so far as to throw mine away, because I am a demo and have to keep up appearances, but I am a closet Pallette nut!!

I couldn't agree more! I use either Palette Noir or Brilliance Archival Graphite Black... and I threw away the only thing by SU I've ever truly hated. lol

Yup, it is purple.

Very very dark purple, but purple, nonetheless.

I threw mine away about a year ago and now only use StazOn black.

It's something that SU has refused to change, even after numerous complaints.

On the other hand, I find SU's Classic black to be particularly good with clear stamps. Go figure!!!

I also tossed my SU Basic Black ink years ago---it was really purple! Now I use staz-On, Pallette Noir, or Brilliance which all work great for different things!

I also tried using SU Basic Black with my clear stamps (didn't want to use Stazon and have yet to buy Palette) on watercolor paper. It runs!! I thought it was waterproof ??

This is so funny-- my eleven year old daughter was working on a project yesterday and wanted to sponge black ink on grey cardstock blocks to make a stone wall... one dab of SU Basic Black got a scornful, "IT'S PURPLE!" from her!

I don't really like Pallet Noir. I find it is very STICKY with acrylic stamps and doesn't always give good coverage with a solid stamp. It dries way too fast on the stamp and it stains the stamps very badly. Some people like this, but I don't particularly.

I still use Basic Black, because I think it does do some things better than other black pads. Otherwise, I like Adirondack Pitch Black for applications where I'm using alchohol markers or Gamsol.

Since I tried the Palette Noir, it is the black ink that I use 99.9% of the time. I gave my SU black to my 10 year old daughter.

I've been wanting a Palette Noir for ages......every time I go to an online store they are always out. Hmmmmmm.....all you ladies must be buying them before me!!

I've been using my craft black (which I dislike because I'm waaaay to impatient for it - LOL!) and black Staz-on. Yep - I'm getting high on Staz-on....and loving it!!

SU Basic Black cannot be used on watercolor paper. It will run. SU recommends using StazOn with watercolor paper. SU Basic Black is waterproof on other papers.....very vanilla, whisper white, confetti white, etc.....

When I first got my MFT stamps, I tried using Stazon with them, but didn't ink well. I then grabbed my other black at the time - Classic Basic Black - and it stained my stamp blue! Stazon black, no staining; Versafine black, no staining.

I don't reach for Basic Black.

Thank you for this info -- I did not know!!

It's crazy the different inks you need. I was looking for a good black waterproof ink to use with my clear stamps. I love stazon for my rubber stamps, but am weary of using it with my clear stamps. I did read that it would be ok, it's the stazon cleaner that is bad for clear stamps. But, I just wanted to play it safe.

"Suck" is such a strong word. I personally love my SU Basic Black and have used it for 8 years now. I do have the newer pad as well. I don't do a lot of the gamsol or copic so it works just fine for a regular black ink. It doesn't look purple to me at all.

I have to agree about the SU Black. It has always looked purple to me. If I stamp the same thing with both pads, they look SO different.

I gave my basic black pad away over a year ago. I stick with Stazon Black, or Palette Noir. Anything but the SU black! LOL

that's sad. I don't have it, but if it's purple why? I mean do they have funky lights there in the SU quality place and they don't know it's purple? Very strange...

I love versafine and the palette noir.

Ok, this is a funny thread.

I have been using stazon black, palette noir or graphite brilliance for the past few years. (mostly stazon) And when I went to my uplines stamp camp a couple months ago she had the SU basic black on the table and I almost threw it because it was so awful!

Seriously, I LOVE my SU! but that black is NOT BLACK and once you try another black you'll understand.

And if you've never bought it dont.....it's the one things that truly sucks from SU!

I totally agree! When I started stamping first thing I noticed was the purple touch to SU!'s Basic Black! I don't hace the Palettes Noir but Memories Black and Versafine Black is also very good.
I don't know why SU! doesn't change this???
I am thinkin about being a Demo here in Germany and I am not sure how to sell this "poor" ink to customers?

I haven't tossed my SU Basic Black but I don't use it any more! It IS purple. And where I got my fingers in the ink and on the outside of the inkpad, it dried purple.
