I saw the tutorial for the ghirardelli squares box and it's so cute but when i saw the price for the candy i thought they seemed a bit high for what i want to do. Is there another brand that makes something similar in size that might be cheaper? Or has someone subsituted a different kind of candy in the box? Or where is the cheapest place to get the ghirardelli ones?
My upline makes these little cases for those chocolates, but instead she puts a tea bag in the case for club. It's a lot less expensive. Maybe you could try that with a nice wrapped teabag. I mean I wouldn't put Lipton in there, but there are so many kinds available these days.
Try to find them on sale? Make your own? I just got a large-ish box of Gh. chocolates for less than $2...Christmas chocolate left over at the local drug store! Chocolate doesn't go bad, so it was a great deal! I really like Sonya's tea bag idea though.
When I was thinking of something of the same flatness, I thought of Andes Mints. Maybe you could use a couple of rows in the box and fit 8-10. Not really sure of the box size but would like to give it try myself.
I was going to suggest Target, too. They have the bags of Ghirardelli on sale quite often. There are usually about 21 squares in a package. Ask me how I know! :p
An individual Ghirardelli square works nicely in the teabag holder, too. This was technique challenge #143. Link to TLC143 thread.
I love the Ghirardelli chocolates, but they also have the Russel Stover ones in some really AMAZING flavors as well. They are the same size and cheaper and the flavors are yummy!!!!
Have you checked Sam's Club? I know at one time they carried these chocolates and if I remember correctly the price was pretty reasonable compared to the price of a small bag.
