After scoring the valley goes on the outside and then use a bone folder and you will get a nice crease! If your edges don't line up your initial score line might have been off alittle. Since using the bone folder I have noticed I do not have the problem of the edges not lining up as long as I start in the center with the bone folder and work outward.

Does it really matter what the "correct" way is? Do what you like. For me, it's valley inside; folds better, looks better works better - for me.

LOL! This thread made me try it with the valley out. Didn't look nearly as nice for me as valley in. Then I started wondering if the tools I use make a difference. Can't wait to get my Scor Pal to do a comparison! Right now, I use a quilting ruler and a butter knife. Since the knife is narrow, it gives a more accurate score than my bone folder, which is just so wide that I have to guesstimate where to put the ruler to get a score in the middle. With the knife, though, it just looks much cleaner with the valley in the card. I swear--and that's folding against the grain on PTI cardstock.

According to my DH, who works at a printing company, the "hill" goes on the inside of the card.

Yes the "Hill" works best with either the score pal or scor-it.

Until I read this thread, I always did hill on the outside and valley on the inside. I frequently had cards that didn't line up right. Last night I made my cards where I tried the hill on the inside and the valley on the outside and they line up *so* much better. Thanks!

Have I mentioned how much I love SCS?

Default Folding Score Line

Mary Jo McGraw agrees with the person who says to go with the grain. If after it is scored, fold it one way but don't press the fold. Then the other way (ya know hill first then valley first). Which ever is easiest for the paper, is the way to get the best looking fold. I use those value packs from Michael's and Hobby Lobby and if you fold them at the score line and don't match everything up, you get an uneven card. I hope this makes sense to y'all cause it made sense when Mary Jo taught it to us in a class. lol Mel 2

I used to have paper 'cracks' & couldn't figure out why so I started experimenting with scraps. Scored side (the valley) out, hill side in - no cracks; folding the other way - cracks. & using the bone folder gives a great crease with less unevenness on the sides.

Both the grain of the paper and the direction you fold it after scoring will give you a quality fold.

You need to determine the direction of the grain before scoring, then score and fold with the mountain on the inside..valley on the outside. Then crease with your bone folder from the middle to the end, then middle to the end on the other side.....you're creasing one half of the fold at a time.

Well, what do you know. All this time, I've been folding my cards backwards with both Scor-It and Scor-Pal. Couldn't figure out why mine never lined up perfectly...

I took a class from Michael Jacobs and he spent some time talking about paper - his website has some great tips/explanations:

Used to do valley inside, UNTIL I got my Scor-pal and read that I should be doing it with valley to the outside!
