I'm a new demo - just since July. I want to order some new stamp sets, but I'm worried about them retiring with the current catalog! Do you think Spring Garden will retire? I hope WC Garden 1 and 2 won't retire since I use those a lot! Same with Terrific Tulips - that was my first flower set about a year ago...
Is there any predicting what will retire?? Maybe those of you who have been with SU for years might have some tips for us newbies....
I believe they put out the retirement list towards the end of May or beginning of June last year. The way I look at it, there are some sets I just LOVE and will use in my personal books & things if/when they retire.
Terrific Tulips is my all time favorite set! I've made a fish, bunny, witch, Christmas tree, ghost, puppy & butterfly (as well as flowers) from that set. Someone else (I don't remember who it was) made pumpkins. It's a fun set!
Have a fantastic day and be sure to demo/use your sets at workshops & classes to get your customers pumped up about them. If they do make the retirement list, if it's something fun they haven't purchased yet, they will probably get it when the retirement list comes out.
Hey...there is my pal Emiko (sorry to steal the thread, temporary) I usually only see ya on the SU board!
Now, back to the regularly scheduled program! LOL

Emiko, I think I've seen the pumpkins somewhere, but would love to see all the great creatures you've created. I'm one of those that has a really hard time seeing things like that. Do you have samples of them posted somewhere that you can share?
Susan,
I don't know if Spring Garden will retire, but I've got to tell you that I love it. I made the 13 Quick cards with it (like 30 sets) and the more I worked with it the more I loved it. I use the card sets as thank you gifts when we go to dinner at someones house etc... and they always get rave reviews. Hope this helps you make up your mind.
LOL

I love, love, love my Spring Garden. I hope it doesn't retire too! It's great for quick cards. Even if it does retire I think it will remain one of my favorites.
I have been stamping for over 8 years. I am not a demo, and most of my stamping friends are not demos. But each year when our demos give us the retired list we make sure to order the sets we really want. Doesn't matter to us if they are retired. And I know SU says demos can't show retired sets, but I can tell you we also don't mind if you do. It just makes us search the catalog to find something similar.
One more thing- 8 years of stamping, more than 100 stamp sets, and I just ordered Spring Garden, this is only the 3rd floral set I have ordered. What was I thinking??? Flowers are so versatile.
Before I signed up I never liked the flower sets very much even though I loved the cards my friends made with them. A n x-demo friend told me that I better start to use them because they were here biggest seller so I tried them and now I love them. Spring Garden is my favorite set to and I always use that one for first time stampers because the cards are sooooo easy.
If you want my tiny bit of advice regarding stamp sets that have a better chance of not retiring, check the six inspiration sheet releases for the quarter before July (the April, 2005 releases). I'd wager my favorite stamp set that none of those six sets will retire.
But then, what do I know!!??
A retired set started my fetish with SU!
I saw a scrapbooking page using Golden Rule Days set about 2 years ago, and had to have it/duplicate the layout. Stamp credits said 'Stampin' Up!'. I found a demo, and my now awesome upline, Jen, from the SU website.
Jen said that set was retired, but could she drop off a catalog...there was a set that was similar......and so the story goes.
One night a few months back my DH bought me the unmounted Golden Rule Days set on eBay while I was giving our kids a bath. What a guy!

Can you tell me more about this??? Are there instructions for it???
Thanks in advance.

OH, too funny. Here I am sitting at my desk at work, thinking, I would LOVE to retire! You meant the stamp sets! LOL. It's raining here in NJ and would be a great day to be home stamping! Oh, back to work!
I meant to reply to this thread, but I kept getting booted out and then my reply was turned into its own thread. It is entitled "my retirement theories" if you are interested.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I've been asked several times to clarify so... First of all you can see samples of quick cards on this site. Just go to gallery and type in quick cards in the search. Basically quick cards are ( 13 that I know of) templates of how to cut or fold 5.5 by 4.25 cards into different cards. Then using 1 stamp set, you use the 12 colors of a group to stamp each card. (different color per card) I didn't come up with this idea I will try to research this to give credit where it's due. The nice thing is it teaches you how to come up with at least 13 cards for your stamp set. Hope this helps.
