Default End of school...what to do?

June is here, and that means the end of the school year is rapidly approaching (must admit I have mixed feelings about that!) Time to think about teacher/bus driver gifts...what do you do for yours? I would love some great ideas becuase I am just plain out of them! Thanks!!

Our teachers put together a wish list that is printed in the school newspaper (small Lutheran school), it generally list things for the classroom, plus whatever gift cards they would like. I usually do gift cards at Christmas and again at the end of the year - smaller now than in December. Usually to Target or Walmart - so they can decide to spend it on themselves or on the classroom. Just two more years and then my youngest will be in high school, where no body does that stuff.

...we have a parent at school who always comes in the last days with a basket of $5 gift cards to starbucks or panera...i am the resource teacher at the school, i don't teach her children, but i get a card and am always just tickled that someone thinks of me...she gives to her kids' teachers and all of us "extra" teachers...which reminds me, i have a thank you card to write...;-)

...i still gave gifts when my daughter was in middle school...i knew the teachers from having taught at the school years before...she acted as if it embarassed her a bit, but i think the teachers appreciated being acknowleded and i don't think i did any long term damage to her...middle and high school teachers need love, too...

As a teacher, one of my favorite gifts was a small live gardenia plant. As I watch it grow, I remember the child/family that gave it to me (they have since moved out of the area) and think about how he is growing too. You could buy a plant in a pot and crimp some pretty paper to wrap around the pot, tie it with raffia or a ribbon, and hang a decorated tag from it. Yes, I love the coffee/Target gift cards too but once you use them, they are gone. My plant is still alive and producing beautiful blooms for me to enjoy each year!

Default Teacher Gift Suggestions

This is a link to the teacher gifts that I gave out last year and will doing again this year. All of my DD's teacher's loved them for the same reasons you just described. And on top of it, my DD grew the flowers from seed so they were extra special to them! Whenever I see her teacher's from last year, they always comment on their plants. :p

Our teacher is getting a set of handmade monongram cards, a gift certificate to the local scrapbook store and a little album that I made of the kids. I'm also giving Starbucks GC to a few other staff members like the custodian and front office girl.

Just curious, what amount is reasonable for the gift cards?

My sister called me today and asked me for a poem to put inside her teacher's thank you card, does anyone know a good poem to thank a teacher? I tried searching but so far, no luck! Thanks in advance!

Default Teacher Poem

I used this one on my DD's teacher thank you card....

As a teacher
I bet youve tied a million shoes
and dried a million tears and
given out a million hugs
through the years.
In my childs life, the role youve played
has been a priceless part.
I want you to know the special place
you hold in my childs heart.

She loved it....more for the younger child though!

Hope this helps -
Beth

When I was teaching, my gift certificate gifts at the end of the year were generally between $10 and $20. I always got crafting gcs or Target gcs. They all knew me so well.

I had 25 teachers this year that I made gifts for because my son left elementary school so I made him go back and list all the teachers he had since he has been there from Kdgn including all the specials. Then I had him write a letter to each one telling them how they taught him or something that was special to him about them. I included the letters with a "Summer Planner" that was made with the pocket folders. I also made them for my oldest who is in middle school. Then for my son's main teacher and my youngest daughters teacher I made a name frame for them. They all loved them.

My oldest who is in middle school gets compliments for the nice gifts they get she has some of the 8th grade teachers who want her next year now!

Silly me who was rushed to get done and get them handed out forgot to take pics of all of them and they really did turn out nice.:(

I made one teacher gift this year. I found a metal bucket in the $1 spot in blue (one of the school colors). I wrote a small poem on one side of it ( A teacher plants the seeds of knowledge, sprinkles them with love, and patiently nurtures their growth to produce tomorrow's dreams.) and then stamped an image of our mascot on the other side. I cut out paper flowers and had each kid write a dream on one side and then their name & a message to the teacher on the other. Then I glued the flowers to sticks and stick them in the bucket with floral foam & moss. This is far more than I usually do (a card & hand lotion usually) but she has been their teacher for 4th & 5th grades.

Good luck.

I just did a set of note cards this year.

Other years I've done baked goods and a movie night in a basket (actually I did a paint can).

GCs for Starbuck's, Panera, or to get a manicutre/pedicure are so nice!
