Default Embossing folder

I am new to stamping and embossing. I am using a Big Kick/big shot and seem to be having trouble with embossing. The images do not come out evenly embossed on the paper. It is lighter on the sides. Any tips out there? Thanks
Teresa

Make sure that the acrylic cutting mats that you are using are not warped.

If you are using a texture fade ef by Tim then I think it is supposed to do that. If you are using an ef that is supposed to be the same all over then maybe you can adjust the screw in the handle (pop off small cap piece, tighten screw in handle with wrench that came with machine and then pop cap back on). You can also use shims, extra pieces of cardstock in your "sandwich". Otherwise you may need to talk with Sizzix.

Every now and again you will get a defective embossing folder that embosses lighter in one area than the others. I would return it, if like Colleen said, you've tried it with nice flat plates and it still isn't working.

Default paper size for embossing folders

I think I heard or read somewhere that if I mist my paper before embossing in a embossing folder that it will keep it's shape and size. My papers warping and the size is not square. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I don't know what you mean about it not being square. But spritzing your paper helps you get a better impression from the folder by loosening the fibers. I don't know how it would prevent warping. Maybe that is alcohol that will help it keep its shape. And it should be a very, very light mist of water.

It can help to turn the embossing folder sideways if the opening is big enough. Sometimes it helps to run it through twice too. There tends to be a bit of pressure difference across the rollers.
Linda4900, some folders with a very heavy pattern can appear to distort the paper, due to the shape of the pattern, but its usually actually still the same shape as you put in. Just an optical illusion.

When I emboss some of my 6 inch folders I find they are 'light' around the edges and corners, so I have attached a piece of paper to them there where I've torn out the centre so the edges get pushed down more and I get more even finish. Maybe you need to do the same but in reverse?

I saw a video on youtube that suggested running folders thru twice but rotating it before you run it thru the second time so the rollers hit different spots both times. hth

Default embossing dies for frame

This is a bit off the subject, but can someone tell me the correct "sandwich" for embossing when you've cut out card stock with a nestability, to get the little embossed frame?

there is such a thing as a bearing going bad in your big shot too. that happened to me. all of a sudden one side of my embossed piece was lighter than the other side. my DH is pretty handy at fixing things. I ordered the big bearings from ellison and when he replaced the one side (bearings) it worked perfectly again!

do you still have the paper that the dies were stuck to when you got your spellbinders? it usually has all the sandwhiches listed for the different machines

this is what the instructions say; after cutting from the bottom up
1. lg platform with tabs closed
2.sb die ( cut ridges up) with cut out inside
3. 2 tan embossing mats
4. tri fold piece of 12 x 6 cardstock and place on top pf embossing mats
5. 1 acrylic plate
6. run thru bigshot

hope this helps

Ok .. thanks... I looked at one of my die's instructions but I wasn't sure how to deal with the base & tabs of the big Shot... I'll try your directions. Sounds good. Thanks a lot!

there are some brands of folders that just do not emboss as well as others that being said the edges of your cutting plate on your big shot is the place to put the folder for the deepest embossing. ( if you put it in the center it wont do it as well same for dies) you may have to flip it around and run it through twice.

hth,
