Hello
Last night DH & I got into a conversation about what would happen to the economy if all stampers/scrapbookers ... STOPPED creating.
I told him the entire economy would crash competely without us. Therefor I must continue to help support it and keep it going or it would be a worldwide disaster.
1 - All the people that manufacture the products we use would no longer have a job.
2- The Federal Government would LOSE millions in postage stamp sales due to all the shipping and postage stamps we buy to send cards and swaps
3- so many mom & pop stores would have to close.
4 - There would be no more SU, CTMH, TAC so all those demo's would no longer have that imcome & incentives for their lines.
5 - There would no longer be an SCS for us. - Maybe the internet would crash also since we are on it every day looking for stamping/scrapbooking related sites
6 - There would be a entire world full of very crabby women/men.
After all this, he told me I better go to the Stamp Shop today and buy that new stamp then.
I am going out too! There is a stamp show in Mesquite, Texas today and I need absolutely nothing but I know I must sacrifice and do my patriotic duty! I'm off...
Count me in, too! I want to do my partiotic part in this, too!
And just think, if we start to "go under", we can always ask for a a BAIL OUT from the government! LOL! Why not, I heard the porn industry asked for one!

I heard about that! If it ever came to the craft industry asking for bailout - Congress had better say yes or they would have to deal with a country full of angry stampers/scrapbookers. I would be there picketing in D.C. carrying a sign -
STAMPERS UNITE
No stamping for me = NO NOTHING FOR YOU
I bet alot their wives are crafty and we would just have to get them on our side and they would have no choice but to pass it. Hounded at work and at home.

I'm going with this theory too! But it's not just the craft industry!! Think of all the spin off companies, iris carts!, sterlite products! even furniture! Ikea, would probably need a bailout shortly too! Office supplies!! We are have a snow storm here but I'm off to do my part. I need new hanging file folders, re-organizing my papers!! LOL

Everyone who reads this is LOL! Enabler alerts - I am so glad right now that my LSS, HL, M, Arch are all 1 hour away. However, online stores are calling my name! GO CRAFTERS!

This is so dang funny! I especially like that the internet might also crash with no SCS. That is hilarious! My husband had to go camping with his boy scout troop, and it's freezing cold here, but I asked him if more than dreading the cold, he was dreading me being unsupervised for 24 hours, home alone, clicking "add to cart." He laughed, and that made me feel better.
I must say that when I did the SCS survey this morning, I had to convert our household income into dollars and it looked just wonderful. Wish it were that much in euros.
But, when I also converted my spend per year into dollars, that was a bit shocking. And I don't think I am a big spender.
I agree with the OP on the postal thing too - we sure do generated a lot of post between online purchases, RAKs, swaps and so on.
WooHoo and yeehaw! did my part at the Mesquite Tx Stamp Show. It was so much better than Grapevine last weekend. I now know all about gamsol and bending and bought it, bought the cutest binding system, 50 new stamps (some unmounted) and some were way to sassy to post here! Also met Tim Holtz's somebody and got free instructions with the entire staff of Holtz. It may have been him-has he shaved his head?? Anyway-it has been stimulated today. Lines were 45 minutes to check out and everyone was running out of product.
I heard a few months ago that AC Moore was closing several of it's stores due to the economic downturn. The reporter mentioned that this was unusual because crafts/hobbies are usually a recession proof market. I guess even in the worst of times, people need a creative outlet to keep them upbeat.

Yeah! I want a bail out as well. If I can show all my receipts and credit card bills proving that I spenp, yet need help, do you think I can get a bail out? Hell, I live in CA and we are on the brink of getting IOU's for tax returns.
I'm in with this logic! How wonderful that we stampers can solve the big problems in the world. I'm going to a stamp clinic tomorrow and am sure I'll get new ideas and have to stop at Michaels on the way home to get supplies. Cha-ching I'm doing my part!

Lol! How funny, but how true at the same time! I just got a ton of new stamps this week so I think I have contributed my fair share to the ecomony for the week .

Hey, yeah, I like the bail out idea!! Think of what all we could get with BILLIONS of dollars AND we'd have plans in place as to how we'd use it before they even asked, IF they even asked!!!
Seriously though, the porn industry asked? Good frankfurting grief!! I am almost certain there are several people that have done gone lost their minds in these times! They probably need to start stamping! I had crap on my mind Christmas day and a few days after, family stuff, but I stamped and I felt so much better afterwards because I found a way to not dwell on it. Sorry, lil off topic but it'd never really hit me like that or I'd never really realized until then what it did for me.
I can't believe the pron industry asked either. Did they really think they would get it? Or maybe they did hoping by some slim skinny chance they would. Or maybe they did to give America a good laugh.
I've always done my part during every recession. I believe that keeping $$$ in circulation (spending) has go to help every industry. LOL. Did my part this last week too -- placed an order with SU demo and at least three on-line orders and a couple small purchases on e-bay.
