Default Duplicates

Ok, fess up. Have you ever bought a duplicate (not intentionally such as to give as a gift). I've done it a couple times so trying to laugh at myself. I sent them to my friend in another state as a gift she was so excited since she didn't have any of those... last one was the inspired by nature - ordered it two orders in a row - the first order hadn't arrived yet and kept thinking I really need that one.

tons of times, the problem is I have 2 demos I buy from, plus I buy stuff when my friends are hostess, so it happens a lot, most recently was fresh cuts (even ended up with 2 packs of fresh cuts notes), ink pads, individual markers, embossing powders (this one is ok as I will eventually use it up), deer friends (just because I bought one from someone, then I was a hostess and my demo got it for me because she knew I really wanted it so she bumped me up from a level 1, but I forgot to tell her I already got it), ....oops...will probably happen again too.

When I first started a su demo sold me Baroque Motifs, well when I actually started buying stamps what was the first one I just had to have? Baroque Motifs. I am the proud owner of two of them.

My sister gets many gifts this way...she loves the fact that I have no clue as to what I have. However, now that her hubby is framing my basement in anticipation of a permanent craft area, that "sleigh of goodies" might be going out of business...

(who am I kidding...I have too much stuff to keep track of it all, LOL!)

Luckily I have avoided this situation so far. But several of my fellow stampers have purchased duplicates. They too gave the sets away as gifts. You just can't go wrong with stamps!!

Accidentally bought two white craft ink. I also bought a red stamp pad at my first SU workshop. Later I bought the whole set and now I have two.

I have started an excel spreadsheet to avoid this problem. I just log in things as I buy them and double check against any ordering. So far so good.

This is funny because it isn't me buying the same item twice ..it's my sister. She always gives me the duplicate. She buys mostly the same stamps and I love when she does that. She will discover that she has gotten something twice and call me and say, "You are so lucky". I agree.

I have done this with some Copic's. I now keep a pretty good list of what I have and what I want to get and I cross off the ones I order even before I get them.

I almost ordered a duplicate stamp a few years ago and thankfully I have a really good demo who remembered that I had ordered the stamp a few months earlier so now when I see a stamp and I am not sure if I have it I check my inventory list.

I agree with the other poster who suggested an exchange program for those of us who really like something enough to get more than one.

I've purchased duplicates before also..some accidentally (the Ebay seller sent me the wrong thing) and forgot what I had. Thankfully I have lots of crafty friends and they are more than happy to have a gift.

Not with stamp sets - I'm pretty aware of what I have. I've benefited from the poor memory of friends, though.

Remember when wheel cartridges had separate reinkers? I mistakenly bought 2 Only Orange. That's a color I don't use very often so now I have a bottle of regular reinker and 2 bottles of wheel cartridge reinker! Guess I'll never have to buy that again!

last fall, I ordered a large grab bag of unmounted rubber off of **ay and had received it in the mail. about a week after that, I ordered the same thing from the same person and even paid for it through paypal when I got an email from Steve letting me know that this was a duplicate of what I had already purchased from him and did I really want it, lol. Ooops..... he was nice enough to immediately refund my payment for the 2nd order.

This happens to me more often than I would like to admit. I just recently bought the new MS Scalloped scallops punch...it is so beautiful...I guess I really liked it because when I got home and went to put it away there was already one there. I also love the hearts border punch...so yummy..but I love it so I am sure I will remember that I have it and not buy it again. On my last SU order I bought an incentive set I already have...Yikes...
Blessings.

My aunt does the same thing! She has so many stamps that she sometimes buys duplicates and I always get them! Sometimes she'll ask me when we're out shopping if she has a certain stamp, and I'll laugh and say "I dont think so, you should probably buy it" ;-) 'cause I know if she does have it, then I get it!

As soon as I get a new catalogue, to avoid ordering duplicate stamp sets, I highlight the description of each set I already have with a Yellow highlighter. When a set retires I highlight the description with a pink highlighter. If I already own the set and it is retiring when I go over the yellow with the pink it turns Orange.
This system has helped me as well as others (they always want my catty to see which sets are retiring).
Yellow - I already have
Pink - Retiring/Retired
Orange - I have & is retiring/retired

My friend was the lucky recipient of a duplicate pack of Nestabilities scalloped ovals I bought. Some duplicates I can eventually use, but that one should definitely have been a one-time purchase!

I've bought duplicates too many times! I now have this small notebook that I write everything in - I've got it in sections.....Penny Black Stamps, Copic numbers, Tombow colors, etc. etc. and I have been really good about making sure I have it with me and when I get something new I add it right away. I hate standing at the counter thinking to myself do I have this or dont I!! It's worked really well for me.
