Default Dream Stamping room

So here is the story. We are moving into a new house and I will be getting a stamping room all to myself. Thanks to some forthought from my DH. I currently have a great room for all my projects that I love! Here are some pictures:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=16297

When we move into the new house I will have a room that is 13'x12'. It is in the basement but on a walkout, so I will have 2 reg sized windows and a door that will open up to the backyard. My DH has given the green light to do almost whatever I want to my room to make it what I want. So here is the question, If you could have your own dream stamping room (or if you already do) what would it have in it? Counters, tables? Shelves or cupboards? What would it look like? Do you have pictures or know of any great sites to inspire me? Share your thoughts, ideas and dreams!!

TFS

I actually do have my own stamp room which I made sure to include when I designed our new house plans. I have installed countertops on 2 walls, one is desk height for my sewing machine and paper cutter and die cutting station, and the other is counter height because sometimes I like to stand when I'm creating. One wall has a built-in cabinet with doors where I store a lot of my cardstock and patterned paper and the other wall has a couple of movable book shelves.

DH installed a bunch of shelving above the countertops, but if I could change anything it would be that. I've seen a couple people who have slat walls and I would much prefer the versatility of those!

Another thing I would change is the lighting. Since the countertops are attached to the walls, my back is always to the lighting in the center of the room. We may have to hire an electrician to install lighting around the edges of the room right over the counters. For now I have a clip-on lamp right above my main work area.

I would have one wall with floor to ceiling shelves so that I could put my wood mounted stamps out where I could see them

OR

I would buy an Armoire from Collector's Cabinets that is set up with 56 acrylic trays to hold my wood stamps.

http://www.collectors-cabinets.com/index.html

Bookshelves, filing cabinets, and lots of light.

A locked door so kids can't come in.

Nice sturdy tables or counters.

I don't have my own stamp room so I can only dream! Nichole Heady has a really gorgeous room. I would want mine to be like hers... but with that cart that you have in yours!

I would love to have a counter top w/a sink in it. I am a very messy crafter and it would be so handy to have running water close by. I would also like all of my things to be as visible as possible so that I'll remember I have them!

Definitely have plenty of outlets and under-cabinet lighting if you go with countertops and wall cabinets. BTW, I love my IKEA kitchen cabinetry. Most of the bottom units have drawers and hold my stamps, adhesives, embossing stuff. The overhead cabinets hold my books, magazines, envelopes, cards, cookbooks. I bought the IKEA kitchen towel racks for my punches and ribbons and stickles. I notice you havd the IKEA dvd holder for your stamp pads. I'm so jealous. I ended up getting the tape cassette holder from kingdom.com for my stamp pads. It works great.

We are in the middle of building and my craft room is downstairs with french doors open to the foyer. It's approximately 15x15. Huge room- I can't wait!! I'm going to have a full wall of cabinets and counter space with lighting unde the cabinets. The middle section will be raised to a height where I can stand and work as opposed to sitting. I'm also going to have a desk area with my tv, computer, printer, etc. Then I'm planning on buying an expedit from Ikea for 1 wall and another wall will be shelving for my stamps. My most prized possesion will be my 'island' which will be high enough for me to stand and work on one side and low enough for me to sit and work on another -also allowing room for other stampers/scrapbookers. It's hard to explain. I'm really excited about it though and I can't wait to move!!

I would LOVE a separate room for my crafts!! Right now I live in a one bedroom apartment with a living room/kitchen combo BUT...my "living room" is my craft area!! I could care less that I don't have a couch....I've got cubes and storage!! My stuff is the most organized that it has ever been!!

I do love Nichole's room....I've kept the pics because that is my type of dream room!! I have a friend that has a scrapping room and one thing she loves is a workspace that she can stand up and scrap at instead of sitting down. Just my 2 cents worth!!

Have fun doing your new room!! Post pics when your done!!

Woo-hoo! Have to share! I just got the go ahead from my husband to turn our front room into a scrap room. It's what would have been the living room to the house but we have a huge addition on the back of the house that we use as our family room. I'm excited b/c the front room has a huge picture window and the lighting in the family room sucks. I won't be able to have running water or my computer in the room (no grounded outlets in that room) but other than that I can do what I want.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I wanted to share!

I totally agree with this! Without building a new house and a brand new room - I really wish I could have a sink in my craft space. I have to share my space with the water heater and the furnace, but they don't talk bad about my ugly cards.
I have counters and lower cabinets on two sides of my room, and upper cabinets on one side. I also have a large sturdy dining table where I do most of my crafting. I use the cabinet drawers to hold many of my supplies - one drawer for ink and embossing powders, one for cutting tools, one for ribbon and other embellishments, and one for tapes, glues and markers. I think I would prefer more open shelving for my stamps, but then again sometimes I like that I can close the cabinet doors on the unorganized messes.

Here is a stamping room that's been making the internet a lot lately. It's more of a showcase than anything else. This person has every color of ANYTHING you want! There is NO FREAKIN' way I could be that neat and still let loose with my creativity. But, it IS beautiful!!!

Here is my craft room
The picture doesn't do the size justice as the counter is 10 ft long.
There are lights mounted under the shelves which you can't see and I have two power outlets mounted now on the backsplash of the counters.
There are 3 cabinets below. The two on the ends and one int he middle so that there are 2 spaces to sit.
The only thing I would do differently (and am working on it) is to have another set of shelves in the middle. Since this picture I have mounted a new CD rack at the end to hold all of my clear stamp cd cases.

The cabinets came from Lowes - $250
The shelves came from Home Depot - $120 for both
The lights are from Lowes - $25 and can easily be installed by a non-electrician and they have a touch pad switch mounted under the lip of the shelves.

I also have a large vintage drafting table on the other side of the room to cut out material when sewing.

I have my own studio - yes I'm blessed. Some of the things I like about my room are: counter top height cutting center, VERTICAL SHELVING, vertical plastic drawers for my ribbon addiction, and a HUGE closet with wall to wall vertical shelving!

What I wish I had: better lighting, permanent space for my laptop, LARGE trashcan, and a wall board for design work.

I've set my station up to work in a "triangle" which allows all my supplies to be ready available and convenient. On one side is a triangle station set up for stamping, the other side of the room is a triangle workstation for my quilting.

Like I said, I'm a blessed woman.

Well I am pretty happy with my space. I have pics in my gallery.

I love my pegboards. They allow me to hang everything and anything and have it within reach.

I only wish i wasn't in the basement. i would love more natural light. But the big flourescent works fine for now!

I do wish I had a counter height spot for cutting paper. that is on my wishlist.

I have started on my dream stamping room. So far I have over 16 feet of counterspace for my computer/printer etc. I have 5 basecabinets and over the summer will put in wall cabinets. I agree with previous posters having a sink would be wonderful. For me I have to wait until summer for that as well. Make sure you have enough "juice" going into the room. I had to have additional electrical done to my room so I wouldn't burn down the house with all the tools I plug in (LOL) Good luck and when its done post some pics!

Well some of you ladies are truly blessed , some of these craft rooms are like going into a store to go shopping. Though I am single and have a two bedroom apt. which I use for study and crafts, I do not own a fraction of the things I have seen. All the paper I own can fit into a box I believe in being "lean and mean" but none the less I would love to have one of these craft rooms fully loaded

I have just got my "Let's Create" Room and I love it. I am such an organizational freak that I did go with cabinets with doors. But sometimes when I walk in I don't feel INSPIRED. It's just so everything is hidden. I hope I am making since. I am in the process of adding some Peg Board so I can have some things within my reach. This may help. I am going to put up a board of my art work somewhere.

I also have counter tops....the only issue (for me) is that I like to work in front and not from side to side. So if there is any way to incorporate a table with some width I would do so.

Keep us up to date so we can follow along with the process. Good luck.

Nichole is my idol. A couple things I'd consider when planning my dream room...

Although my current 'studio' is in the basement, it's very likely that it'll get moved upstairs when my kids get older and want to have their bedrooms downstairs. If going with cabinets...perhaps something non-permanent will be best for me (IKEA).

I currently sit to stamp, but there are a lot of times that I'd rather stand. I'd love to have a counter height table (non-folding) some day.

Depending on where you'll put your actual workspace, be sure to pay attention to lighting. the room I'm in currently I face the middle of the room while stamping, so it's not an issue. Before turning my table around, the lights in the room were behind me and it was a pain. Have fun dreaming!

My dream room would have:

Counter tops would be a must. With 2 holes in them & a garbage can under one and a recycling can under the other. That way when working I could just push the scraps or garbage through the hole.

Shallow and deep drawers

Pull out shelves for large or heavy items (printers, xyron, etc.)

book shelves for magazines, reference books

shelves for 12x12 paper & albums

outlets at counter level so I wouldn't have to constantly bend to plug stuff in

good lighting

TV with a DVD player

a floor I can roll around on with my office chair and not need a plastic chair mat

white board, bullitan board, magnetic board

That is all I can think of right now. Ahh, to dream.

I didn't see it mentioned but there is a gallery of stamping spaces in the gallery section here on scs. It is alot of looking but you may be able to grab ideas form so many who shared.
there was also another spectracular room shown just recently form 2 peas but I don't have the site saved.
Maybe some else does it has a big black island in the center of the room and a black and white chair.
you can find the link if you search these forums for stamping rooms. I just saw it a couple of days ago.

I planned my dream stamping room for a long time. I wanted a place for everything and for all my things to be within a turn of a chair. My room is rather stark but I love it and will eventually decorate it with some wall things when I get the time! I carefully planned my cabinets and thought out storage for every little thing. I am not big on baskets and boxes for find them harder to take out and put away. Also wanted plenty of counter and table space. I put in a double sink in the laundry room that is through the double doors next to the pantry cabinet. Water is close and handy. When I have a group over, I can set up at least 4 tables for working which is wonderful. There really isn't anything I would change.

For the first 13 years of stamping, I had a card table in the corner of a room with all my things in Iris carts in a cold, cold closet under the eaves. This is quite a change and every time I am in there, I feel like the most spoiled gal in town.

Good luck and I hope you get some fun ideas from all these incredible spaces that everyone has. Here is my space:

I have pictures of my studio in my gallery. HERE is a link to it. I love my area, the floor is concrete so I can roll freely from area to area. My favorite aspect is that I have different "areas". I am a firm beliver of everything having a place and everything being in its place. Have fun creating your studio. Also if you have an IKEA in your area go check them out they have amazing prices and great products that can be used in different ways.. 99% of my studio came from them.

ETA: One more inmportant thing. LIGHTING make sure to add can lights or similar in the ceiling!

My dream stamp room would be everything within reach or have stations. A station for paper, another station for the cuttlebug, another for the cricut, embellishments, etc. This way my cuttlebug can stay open etc. I just roll myself and my card/scrapbooking page around. As it is now, everything I use ends up on my work area and then I can't find something I just used 5 minutes ago.

I have a stamp room too, but found that I much preferred to be in the same room as DH when I was stamping, so I moved into his TV room, and now the ex-stamp room is more like a storage room.

So in my dream stamp room, I would have some room to accomodate DH and his hobbies.

I love your current stamp room. That looks like exactly what I would want. I currently have a small corner in our family room...

Just wondering...Is that a baby in a basket in those pictures or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

I, too, have been looking at beautiful craft rooms! I have decided to re-do my little room even though we are still renting. Hubbys not too thrilled, but I told him that I need a functional space to use my expensive stamps and paper and that shut him right up! hahaha

Anyway, in addition to Nicole's (already listed above), some of my other favorites are:

Hope that provides you with a bit of inspiration!

I have a craft room, but it is not my dream room. I know I am so lucky to have my own space; I hope someday to have an empty room to create my dream room. Among other things, my dream room would have a full wall of narrow shelves so that all my wood-mounted stamps would be on display at all times - just like in the stores. Now they are piled 2 or 3 deep in drawers and it's a major task to try to locate the one I want. Actually today I pulled them all out and try to categorize them. Maybe it will help.
