Question Which do you prefer in the Gallery?

I was reading the thread about people not having info on their cards that someone else started and I have a gallery question, too...

When you are looking in the gallery do you tend to like to look at cards that are scanned or cards that are shown sitting up or on a little frame (?) or on a table or something like that (don't know what to call it)?
I scan all of my cards just because you can see them in more detail and I can adjust the brightness, etc. But I think that the cards that are set up really cute on a little pedestal thingy (?) look so pretty, too.
Just wondering if you are drawn more to one than another or prefer one over the other.
THANKS!!

Either or. It really doesn't matter as long as the picture is clear. To me at least, it's the cards itself that draws me in, not the display.

I must admit, after thinking a bit, that I am most drawn to pictures of cards rather than scanned cards. Maybe because of the depth of field. I do, however look at others too, as long as the picture/scan is clear (not blurry) and close up (not too much background). Sometimes it's colour, other times it's the stamp set or even the technique. With my uploads, usually it's a picture but sometimes a scan. HTH!

I agree with Laura, don't mind as long as the card is clear and if you do scan that you have cropped to the right size.

I scan all of mine because the scanner is just RIGHT THERE and SOOOOO handy. My camera takes forever to download the pics onto my computer, then I have to edit them and blah blah blah. I'm lazy. I just like how crisp my scanner makes the pictures look as opposed to my camera.

I've recently switched from using my scanner to taking digital pictures of my cards. It takes a little longer this way, but I feel that the quality of the image is better with the digital picture vs the scan. Maybe I'm scanner challenged, but the colors of my cards were always washed out and the little details like glitter got lost.

that is so funny jessica.. i would think the opposite.
my scanner takes forever.. and withmy camera, i can click, click, click.. take the pic, download, then upload.
with my scaner, i have to wait for it to heat up.. scan, crop out the white area, save, then upload.. takes me double the time..

that just made me laugh how differnet people's perceptions can be!! LOL

Digital or scan can both look great! The only thing that matters to me is a clear image cropped to the size of the card.

I just have an uber-awesome printer/scanner that I got from Best Buy...I need a new camera...so who knows, if the new camera is cooler, I'll switch to that! There is no warm up or cropping that I have to do with my scanner (It's an HP-something or another ), it just does it all automatically...then saves it too. I think part of that is windows ME as well.

I'm with Faereygirl. It doesn't matter to me either, as long as the card is not blurred or too dark to see. I tend to use my scanner because it is quicker than pulling the chip out of my digital camera and downloading/uploading. I think my scanner does a pretty crisp job of capturing my cards.

I just want to see a clear image, too. True colors are also nice, if you can capture them with your scanner or camera.

I know my scanner tends to "wash out" the colors so my images are never as dramatic as I'd like them to be. Would I look twice at my own uploads?? But I don't have a digital camera, so you go with what you've got, I guess.

either way works for me, just as long as it is close enough to see details.
I haven't started my own gallery because we don't have a scanner and I think it would take forever to use the digital and upload the pics. One day, we'll get a scanner!!

Either way is good for me. I do like the set up and presentation that some have done with their card, by using a complimentary background and objects around the card. All cards and art is great.........just keep the blurry ones and try again. =)

I agree, a blurry card gives me an instant headache - Ouch!
I think I will start taking a pic with my digital and scanning and then just see which one looks the best, can't hurt.
I use a scanner because I can do it at work where we have a nice, $$$, scanner, so it works really good!
I just love looking at all the uploads everyday, so much fun no matter how they display them!

I look at both, but I think the scanned images are easier to see details on. Sometimes people get a little too far away from the pedestal when they take the picture!

I prefer the scanned ones--because lots of times the ones taken with a camera are: 1. blurred 2. too dark 3. taken at an odd angle 4. etc.

If you get too close with a camera, it will never be in focus and the flash will wash it out. You have to get further away to get a good picture and then you have to crop, adjust etc.

But the real test for any pictures is whether you use a good photo editing software to process the picture--I use Paint Shop Pro--spend about 1 minute on each scan, can adjust contrast, color, brightness, all that in another minute if I need to.

All that said, I still look at the card if it looks interesting. Unfortunately I can't see whether a dark picture is interesting.

I'm a big fan of using my scanner, but I have to admit, so of the colors do NOT come out at all (Pretty in Pink and Green Galore for example). I've thought about taking pictures, but I haven't had a ton of luck with that either *sigh*.

I don't mind - like others have said, as long as it's not blurred, or dark, or in the corner of a lot of white space.

I take mine with my camera, but I put the card on the floor, or a chair, and get the camera right above it. I hated scanning (don't have a scanner any more) - it was slow and it squashed the embellishments. Especially liquid applique - ruined a few cards like that.

Depends on the camera you have and the lighting you use. I get right up close to mine and I don't have a problem with blurriness, flash yes, but then I'll try to take the pic in the daylight or with a white backdrop to reflect light back. Somewhere around here is a tutorial on how to take the best photo's of your art by JanTink. Great advice for anyone wanting to get the best pic!
