Do you ever make the same card over and over?

I have made this card ( or a close variation) for weddings for about 10 years!
Nothing fancy, quick and easy.

I don't have many wedding stamps (like only two images-I don't want more) so that's part of the repetition. I also like using this image because it's from the second set I ever bought.

I was worried I was getting low on this dsp (quite old) from SU and went to a demo sale last spring and picked up about 6 more sheets of it! Yay!


Do you have one or two stand by cards you make or are they always different?

Also I've had that ribbon from Target's $$ spot for 6 yrs. and finally opened it up! Yay again!

Pretty card and ribbon. I almost never make the same card more than once. I do have a wedding card I have made 3-4 times because I like it so much. I have one or two more I may have made twice.

I like it! Nope - never ever have I repeated myself for cards I was sending. I did make multiples of a Christmas card for my daughter to send one year...

I may have a few preferred layouts and colour schemes but no, unless I make multiples at the same time, I don't make duplicates. I get bored too quick I guess haha

Love your card and soft background. What ink did you use?

Not the same exact card, but I'll go through stages making the same/similar background that can be used differently.

Sometimes an effect is added, like shimmer mist and/or gold mica watercolor drops, or a background die-cut, but I'll have a short stack ready for the future with different color themes and techniques. I like making backgrounds more than cards.

Most of the time I do a different card...but sometimes if I love the design I will do several variations in different colours and papers.

I find it very hard to repeat, the only time I will do it is at Christmas.

However, I would say to you 'if it ain't broke don't fix it!' it is a beautiful 'gentle' card and it works, so why change it unless you really want to.

I do as I sell at farmers markets for the season. Many I will sit down and make 24 at a time to have stock on hand. Most I do in batches of 8. My problem is that when I don't have the same paper for the background I get a little sad, lol. Some papers I have stocked up on so I am good for a few years, lol. Mostly I buy 12 x 12 and cut them into the 6 background pieces and match my colouring of images to these. And last year I sold over 2000 cards so yes I have to make repeat cards.

I do both. I make runs of the same for holidays.

But then I make solos for DH for various things during the year, stationary gifts for friends, etc.


I would like to make more solos.

I find it so soothing and relaxing to make multiples when I have a design, image and colors that I find appealing. I usually make at least 8.

It's funny how different we all are. What I think is relaxing, many find boring.


I do make one of a kind cards for most of my grandchildren, geared to whatever they are interested in at the time.

Bugga, that's so interesting that you say that. It make complete sense to me intellectually, but the reality is that I never repeat a card. Ever. Sometimes when I am lacking ideas I think to do it, but the idea just plain bores me. For me the fun of crafting is the exploration. (Although in the midst of it when nothing seems to be going right, I would probably characterize things very differently ;)!)

The most peaceful and restful part of crafting for me is when I am done and satisfied and am cleaning up my space, because I tend to create a huge mess during the process. Yes, there really is a place for everything, it just doesn't get put back there in the midst of working most of the time!

And Rachael, I think one of the best things about crafting is that there is no right or wrong way to do it. There are many options for everyone to enjoy, and find a way to express our creative spirits.

I was going to say no, rarely; for Christmas cards I might make 4 or 5 the same, but that's it. However, today I was making DH's birthday card to have ready, and I realised that any card I've made with that particular stamp has just been a variation on a theme. All different, but not wildly so. I think some stamps lend themselves to simple, classic layouts.

I think it must be Smokey Slate. The CS is SU Coastal Cabana.

For Christmas cards, I usually come up with 4 or 5 layouts and make 15-20 of each design. I like the mass production process. If I'm cutting patterned paper for one card, I may as well get as many cards as I can from it. I don't need any more scraps!My friend, Steph, sent me a card several years ago with a layered giraffe head on the front. I was so impressed, I had to have the stamp. I "borrowed" Steph's design and that is the only design for which I use that stamp. I keep a few on hand in my stash all the time.

I agree! I'll usually make 6 of the same card, especially if I'm cutting a piece of 12 X 12 paper for a background piece. I'm preparing a stash for selling at a couple of craft fairs at Christmas time.

I have such a hard time coming up with card ideas (sometimes, it literally will take me two hours to make a single card), so if I come up with a design I like, heck yeah I'm going to repeat it!! I will often change up the colors or even the stamps, but I will make a bunch of a similar design. Besides, by the time I figure out what I'm going to make, my craft desk is a complete disaster and every tool I want to use is already out, so why bother putting it all away? :-)

And with Christmas cards, if I don't make them all the same design, I start to rank which cards are "better" and then go through this process of deciding who should get the "good" cards and who isn't crafty and won't care/will just throw the card away, so they can get a "so-so" card...it stresses me out and takes 10 time longer to actually get the cards mailed out! No, it's not just you - it's me, too! I usually make multiples when I get going making cards. I have lots of birthdays in my large extended family, and always need them.


But if I have several different versions, I still agonize over which card to send to who. And if the cards are similar, I have to think will this relative be at the house of the other relative, and see the card and know that it was just like theirs.....

I've even looked a several cards just alike, and decided that the one where I colored a little outside the lines should go to the person who is older, and doesn't see as well, lol.

For my "regular" birthdays, I tend to use a similar layout for the year, just changing colors and accessorizing based on the person. That way I don't worry about sending "same" card to the same person twice...As for holidays - yes, I do multiples. First year I made 75 Christmas cards - all totally different and what a job that was. For me multiples is just as enjoyable for me as individuals, because I'm having fun!

I will be making 6 identical cards, maybe even this evening I usually don't but do occasionally. This batch is for grade level coworkers for the end of the school year. It will be an easy layout, whatever I choose. Then it's quick to make multiples.

I usually make two of each card, since I am cutting the cs in half. Other than that and Christmas cards, I don't duplicate. That is I don't go back and say "wow, I love this card. I need to make more." There is just so much out there......
On another note, I remember that paper, and I'm sure that I have some somewhere.....

I'm with the easily bored crowd so very rarely make two cards alike. Occasionally I'll make 4 similar if a need a stack to take to church card ministry. I guess the fun for me is creating something unique for each recipient. But certainly, there are various layouts that I return to again and again.

I got my magic slider die too! I had to try three times before I got it right. I must've been tired, but the 2nd time I got it all good and stuck it down before I colored by background. Love you cactus card!!

I have particular sketches/layouts that I use over and over. At Christmas, I will make the same basic card over & over but change things up to keep it interesting eg: different topper or stamped image & different embellishments & different dps but all from the same pad. I rarely make the same card twice.

I keep thinking I should do what Jennifer Maguire does in making multiples of cards using a particular technique so I would have a pile of cards in my stash.

NOPE. I make multiples of most of my cards. I am in several different organizations so don't care if some of the cards are similar between them. They would never know because they don't "cross" at any points so would never know; but even between individuals in one organization, I don't mind if they are the same or similar. The sentiment or what I hand write in is different for everyone. I don't usually go back to one specific card but have on occasion when I find one I REALLY like and is easy to make and if I can swap out the sentiment all the better.

I would love to make multiples of the same card. I always start out intending to do so. What always happens is by the time I've struggled, fussed and fiddled to get the first card just right, I'm so sick of it I don't want to look at it again, let alone make more like it!

I never make the same card twice unless I am making samples for the classes I teach and even then they are somewhat different to show how the technique can be tweaked to change it up some. That being said I have used the same layout, sometimes months and years apart because it felt right for what I was doing at the time---it happens inadvertently on occasion.

I think I actually used this format more times, but here are two I came across quickly, made 4 years apart!

Stacy, around these parts (Milwaukee) people are selling beautiful handcrafted cards for around $2 a piece (including envie). I've chatted with a couple of them, that they are undervaluing their work, and they say they don't sell for a higher price. Tis a big reason I decided not to go down that road. I think for the people in this area, it just gives them a good excuse to play with their stamps, and if it makes them happy and they get a few dollars to buy more supplies, then all is well, I suppose.

Hopefully, you live in a better area or are more tech savy and up for an Etsy type shop and the work that goes into developing your brand in that sort of setting.

Thank you so much for the feedback!!! I made some thank you cards for my sister-in-law and actually kept track of each item cost. At $2 a card, I would make a little profit for my time. But that is a great starting point for me. I have seen other cards for sale at specialty shops around my area for $4 or more for one card and envie, but not sure how well those sell. I am thinking about selling 10 cards plus envies packaged in a clear card box. I gave those as gifts and I really liked how well they turned out. Since I love making them, it wouldn't hurt to make a few boxes and see what happens! I have been thinking about Etsy, maybe down the road??

I make cards that I donate to a woman's shelter so make duplicates for them sometimes, and for kid's birthday parties. Otherwise, I usually make them all different so that I don't get bored!
