Default Do U make 2 of every card you make

Hi, am interested in how you remember cards you have made in the event that you want to make another the same. I tried photographing and putting onto a CD but can't seem to get it right or find the one I want without going through heaps of folders. Any suggestions?

For a while I made two of everything. That gave me a nice stash of emergency cards when I forgot something or needed a quick thank you note. However it got to be a lot to keep. I now have started to post them in my gallery here. I really like it. It is searchable, but I don't have that many to worry about. I can page through and find one pretty quickly.

Yes, I make at least two and if in the mood I'll make at least 4-6, I sell alot of my cards, so I like to have extras on hand.

I scan into my computer and print out a copy. I have a file with cards that I made then I write on the back side of the copy of the printout who it went to and the date. Sometimes I do make extra's cards for "backup". I really do need a "stash" of cards for when I don't have time to make them. I hate to "rush" a card.

I usually make 8 to 12 of all the cards I make, as they'll all either get mailed or sold. If I ever want to make more of the same design I can always go to my gallary and get my recipe from there.

Default card samples

All great ideas. I'm lucky in that I'm retired and can spend most days cardmaking, so that I do make quite a few - sometimes 14 in a day. There are so many colour combinations, techniques, sketches on splitcoasters to choose from I am nearly always in a frenzy to do them all! so that I don't often like to make more than one of the same at a time, though would be happy to do so the next day.
Again, splitcoasters to the rescue. Thanks, Valda

I should make 2 of each but I never think of it at the time, and then I have it in my gallery for future reference.

I only make one of each card, then I take a picture. All the pics are organized in Adobe Photo Album Starter (which I believe you can download for free). With each picture you can add keywords so I usually include stamps used, type of card and person to whom I sent card. So if I want to search for birthday cards, I search using keyword birthday. If I want to find which cards I've sent to Aunt Janice I type her name in, etc. I actually got the idea from someone on this MB but can't remember who! It's an awesome system!!

I try to make at least one of each card ...

... unfortunately, some cards only exist in my mind ... and I never get them "translated" into real life!

I take a photo of the card I make and print it out immediately so its not sitting in my dig. camera. I have a cheap photo album that holds over 400 photos, I have it divided by stamp set alphabetically and I put the photo in the right section. That way if I ever pull out say my Flower Garden set I go right to the section in my album and can case myself. It works for me

I rarely make 2 alike. But I've begun to scan them in to "My Gallery" here on SCS. That helps me refer back to them. My Gallery is more for me than anyone else, ha! The only thing is that I don't scan every card I make. If it is one that I like a lot, I try to be sure to scan that one.

I only make one card of any design. Since I personalize all I make, I wouldn't want to duplicate it. If I am making a boxfor a gift of note cards or stationary, I still only make one design. I may make others similar, but would be changing the color or some other element of the design. If I were a business, yes I would want an extra one for my portfolio.

Like stampnangel, I take a photo of each of my "good" cards and print it out. I only make one card at a time. I put them in one of those little "brag books" that you can get at Mikes for $1. On the back I write the date I made it, the recipe, and who I sent it to. Sometimes when I make a cute girly birthday card that is actually really cool, over the next several months I duplicate it to send several girl cousins in their teens and 20s. They never compare with each other! I like to have something physical that I can sit with on the couch and flip through and look at. Sort of my "Greatest Hits."

I make four or eight at a time, saving one in a plastic sleeve in one of those plastic photo/CD holders that Rubbermaid makes. Every so often I look through it and pull out the cards that look outdated or just don't seem like keepers any more and donate them. I do take pictures, too, but those seem to either stay in my camera or on my computer in cyberspace somewhere, so I like to have the hard copy in my Rubbermaid box

Like Basketballmom, my mind is filled with cards I'd like to make! Then when I need one, I resort to the stash of cards I ACTUALLY made. So when I actually create them, I try to make as many as I can.

If I find a set I like, like Birthday Beauty, that will be the only set I use for Birthday cards for a calendar year. All of my girlfriends (and my daughters' friends, too) will get a card used with that set that year. Then I don't have to think about whether I sent that card already to that person, since thankfully birthdays come only once per year! You would think that I keep my stamp set costs down this way...but somehow, I don't. I just keep on acquiring sets. It's a sickness, isn't it?

I try to make at least 6 of each card. If I need a quick card and don't have any in my stash, then I'll only make 1.

I always make 2 for sure. Might as well use up the other half of cardstock while you are at it. It is just as easy to make 2 as it is 1. If I get together with my sister to make cards than we both make 4 and we trade 2 of them so I have the 2 I created plus 2 of hers.

I read in a magazine this morning part of what Merryf said. Keep the card in what ever fashion you choose (hard copy, photo, what ever) but be sure to date the card when you made it. That way you can see the progress you've made in perfecting your craft skills and techniques.

Unfortunately I don't do this, but I do date the card on the inside with my sentiment.

I do date the counted cross stitch pieces I've done over the years. It's neat to see how much I've improved since my first one in 1972. I have that hanging in my livingroom.

Hey for that matter, some cards can be a work of art and deserve to be framed and hanging on the wall.

I usually make 2 or more and I also scan to my gallery. I use my gallery because I know I won't lose it or accidentally throw it away (guess how I know that happens?)
Using my gallery is like Pattie signing her x-stitch work (see above). I can mark my own progress. I like having others look at my gallery, but I really upload for me. KWIM? It's like a report card of yourself- except you create it! I would encourage everyone to start a gallery of their own.

I make at least 2, one to give away and one to keep. I started scanning
them, but it's easier to just keep the extra one. Also it's fun to look at
them later and see how I've become better (or worse!)

Years ago when I started stamping, it never occurred to me to make 2 of a card or even take a picture of it. That was way before digital anything and all of my cards were one of a kind. I wish I had photos of those early cards. I did keep a record of all the bookmarks I made, the ink used, cardstock, how many made and which Walk to Emmaus community they were sent to.

Now I take pictures and write down the recipe. For the past couple of years though, I've been making "production" cards. Cards w/o coloring, easy to make and assemble because I supply the church w/100's for Easter, Christmas and birthdays. I save one and put it in a binder with directions.

I make 3 copies of each which I call the "3-S" method. One to send, one to save and one to sell. I only make a front of the card I'm saving.

I like this idea - very organised - what categories do U have. Most of the cards I make could actually be called birthday cards, although some I leave blank. V

Default your cards

When making your production cards, do U layer or just stamp straight onto base cardstock? Would like to see one of them! Thanks, Valda

Unless the cards are for Christmas or invitations, all my cards are one of a kind. That is why I stamp...to expend some of my creative energy. I like to start fresh on each card.

All cards get uploaded into my gallery. It's fun to look back and see how much my style has changed.

I often make about 12 of each card as I make packages to give out at Christmas and also sell some. My friends and family really get a kick out of receiving a package of cards to use during the year. I also keep one with the recipe and the date on a yellow sticky on the inside and have them in photo boxes. Looking back I don't like my earlier cards.

This is genius thinking!! I have been naming the files starting with the year and date, but I never thought (duh!) about sorting them by stamp set... seems like something I'd have thought of a LONG LONG time ago, but seeing your post has inspired me to re-think and re-sort! THANKS!!

I always make 2 or more of any card that I really LIKE. If I don't like it enough to want to receive one like it, I just save it for a retirement home, or pitch it. Then, the 2nd one gets put into a "loose leaf" binder with page protectors. (3 will usually fit on a page if you "slice off about 1/4" from the bottom of the "saved" ones.) Then, beside the card, I put the name of the people who I send them to. I would be very embarrassed if I sent the same card to the same person a year later! Just me! I have 2 binders with probably 200 cards in them....they are lots of fun to see how you've progressed - from the first year that you made cards, to now! Hope that helps!

Oh I can so relate to that. My Hanukkah card ran around in my head for a week and then someone at work asked if I could make one and I got it into a card-well 4. I sold 3 so I still have one.

Generally if I like something I make several similar cards but I do vary the layering and embellishments. I made 8 of my final Christmas card, no 2 were alike. The focal point was even different, because I varied the way I stamped it. I just uploaded the group shot I have a problem doing the exact same thing-as in a swap.

I dont make multiples of my cards unless they are for an event like birthday announcements or Holidays.

I take a picture of every card I make (if it's worthy) and then it's on my flickr account and here on SCS.

I dont see the point in making 2 since I already have a TON of cards anyway. Making 2 doesnt seem necessary if there is a picture of it.

I just went through my huge stash and bundled them up to give as gifts for Christmas. I cant imagine having 2 of each.

Just wondering...to those of you who sell your cards, where do you sell them?

Hi, just starting to stretch my wings in that direction to try to pay for some of my supplies. I showed my doctor and she bought some Christmas cards; my pharmacist also bought 20 and her assistant did too. I went into a gift shop and the proprietor bought 10. Unfortunately this isn't ongoing and the type of card I like to make isn't necessarily what is wanted - they all seem to want the pretty pink or mauve girly thing and I like different colours and styles. All slow going.
A friend works in a hospital and takes them to work and they are snapped up.
I could do craft markets but not really interested in that idea and in Australia we have to have a business number before some of the gift shops will buy from you - and when I get about half what it costs me in time for each card, it just isn't worth all the paperwork!

I will upload a couple of my cards to show what I mean about my style.
