Default Distress Oxide issue

I love the colors and effects of Distress Oxides and recently purchased a bunch of them (35 or so). Here's the issue: all but two or three of them seem very, very dry - to the point where the edges of the pad are curled up. I have to flip the pad over and push the center against the stamp to get even semi-even coverage. I seem to remember reading that these ink pads require refilling more frequently than others, but straight out of the gate? Is this normal? To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement...

No, the pads should be full of ink and useable straight out of the box, without reinking. So you definitely have legitimate issue.

I bought many Distress Oxides from Craft Warehouse in a nearby city. When I discovered one of the pads was dry, like you described, I took it back with receipt & and sample of how it didn’t leave ink smear on cardstock and they gave me a new pad without any hassle.
The question is, where did you buy the pads - in store or on-line? I would recommend making a sample sheet showing smearing of each pad you received as evidence. Circle the samples of the problem pads, identifying them by color. If in-store purchase, take sample sheet and pesky pads & receipt to store. If on-line purchase, take good photo(s) of sample sheet and give a detailed written explanation of the problem to the customer service Dept.

I haven't experienced that at all so definitely contact the retailer. They are amazing.

Thanks, Susy and Lydia. I bought them all online, so I'll have to do some emails and such, it looks like. While I'm frustrated with the current situation, it's good to know that it's a "batch" issue, not a product-in-general issue. I really do want to love these...

I have a problem with all my Oxides (the whole set) being concave. At first I thought it was me but I've seen Tim Holtz videos where he has that problem as well. They are definitely not dry, though.

Not DOX, but I received a Versafine Clair black pad that is clearly not inked all the way through. The pad is white (felt?) at the bottom with no ink! Call in to the online seller, but no response yet.

Claudia, that white patch at the bottom of the pad is normal, they all have it. If you have a read of the info on the back of the pad, it says that there will be a white area, and that it's correct.

Oh my gosh, thank you for sharing this information, Shaz! I never thought to read the back of the pad - shame on me! I must say, I love the way the ink stamps!

Hi Claudia, you're welcome. I thought it was weird when I first got mine. But I agree, they are fantastic inks, the Nocturne is even better than than the original Onyx black, and I never thought I'd say that!
