Question Distress markers dried up?

I am SO disappointed with these- have had them about 8 months, unopened in the package. Got them out yesterday to use- totally dried up!! Has this happenened to others and is there any way to "rehydrate" them? If not, I'm done buying Tim Holtz stuff...

Ranger Ink has outstanding customer service. If I were you, I would contact Ranger Ink regarding your problem with the Distress markers.

One possibility for them being dried out (ink not evenly disbursed) is that the markers have been stored vertically. DIstress markers must be stored horizontally per t!m holtz,

And a side note: when you do have juicy Distress markers, you have to be sure when you use them and put the marker cap back onto the marker to be sure none of the black plastic on the marker is showing. If the black plastic is showing, the marker cap is not on properly and the markers will dry out for sure.

HTH.

I have a few. They've been stored horizontally and capped tightly, and the same thing happened to 2 of mine. I've read about the same thing happening to others, and Ranger didn't replace them. That's why I didn't bother contacting them. I won't be buying any more Distress Markers.

This is the first time I've ever heard of Ranger not being helpful. I'm very surprised. Sorry to hear this.

If you can't get a replacement, I have had really good luck reinking my markers with
refills. I just put a drop or 2 on the nib and let lit sit for a bit. The go back and do it again. if you can pull the tip out without harming the marker I put several drops in the barrel. Let the marker sit horizontally. Not too much refill or you will have a ruined messy marker. Don't ask how I know ;-p

Thanks! I'll try that for the colors that I have refills for. I have to get more refills anyway for my ink pads. The Distress ink pads don't seem to dry out quickly at all.

Spritzing Ink Refresher on a craft mat and then scribbling the marker in it will re-hydrate. The ink refills are not the same formula. I always contact the manufacturer when I have a defective product, over the years Ranger Ink has replaced many things - even a heat gun.

Ranger has replaced products for me over the years when I had a problem. Overall, considering how many Ranger products I own, I have had very few issues, but when I did have an issue, Ranger was there for me.

Once Ranger even replaced some perfect medium pads that I had that were literally years old and had gone 'bad'. Amazing!!

Default Worth a try

I will contact Ranger and see what happens- certainly can't hurt! The markers were stored horizontally and unopened.

My LSS stopped carrying them because of the drying problem. Some of mine dried out t. The one “miss” in the Ranger Distress line. (The post you quoted is from 2016 - which is fine - so the OP’s problem has likely been solved or she moved on).

To OP: Can you update us on what happened?
My first thought was that the seller had them on the shelf for a long time before you bought them.

My take is this is an issue in general - at least as of a year+ ago - so many people have complained, in real life and on line. My LSS doesn’t have room to stock items for long periods and it happened to those she had - which is why she stopped carrying them.

The OP’s post is from almost three years ago so unless she subscribed she might not see your question?

I refilled a few with a reinker, but still consider sending a complaint to Ranger.. I have cheaper markers which still write after many more years I have the DM's. It's not that they are dry now... they have been for a while, and I did not use them anymore. I am reorganizing my studio, and decide I would toss them, but then thought: no, this is just not right.. I am part of a Yahoo group where we might send a message from all the 'complainers' .. I am pretty sure we will not be compensated, because: yes : there is the refreshener. For a good quality marker you don't need a refreshener as far as I am concerned.
