Dare to Get Dirty 2015 - August 1-7
Come celebrate with us
Since July of 2004, we’ve thanked our Fan Club members for supporting Splitcoast financially with a themed monthly gallery. We think up a theme, and our twelve talented designers create away, filling the gallery with all kinds of things to inspire and enable, and to give you a little something extra for your contributions to Splitcoast. We know you love to ogle the projects every month, and we know you’re all immensely talented, too.
Then we thought - how fun would it be get our Fan Club members to play along in challenges with us? With that thought, Dare to Get Dirty week was born. We're happy to celebrate our 11th anniversary with you with a week full of stamping challenges.
So what’s this all about?
Easy. It’s all about you. Sure, we’re playing, too, but we want to see what you do when you're challenged!
Our Dirty Dozen Designers, both past and present, have a fun week planned for you. You’ll see a little of everything – inspiration, 3D items, color and layout challenges, techniques, tutorials . . . . and besides the stamping part of things, we wanted to add something else, more personal interaction! We’ve got everything all pre-posted and ready to go, and the girls will be there in the chat threads to answer any of your pressing questions. If you’ve ever wondered how someone does something, ask away. They’re there to dish and share their dirty little secrets with you! We will even have a fun, new live chat feature waiting for you in the challenge forum!
Do I have to do them all?
Nah, just do what you can or what grabs you, or just jump in and chat with the girls if you can’t actually stamp during the challenges. We want to see your work and get to know you better!
What if I do do them all?
Good question! How about a prize drawing for those who complete all of the challenges (combining challenges is cool, of course!) and upload by August 10th at 11:59 PM CST?
So when does it all start?
Saturday, August 1st, we’ll post the first set of challenges here, and will continue posting challenges through Friday, August 7th.
Are there any rules?
Have fun! Combine challenges, go nuts with one challenge and do ten entries. Upload to your gallery, post your creations on your blog . . . just keep the details of the challenges in the Fan Club forum, okay? (This means in your description, don't say: "This card is for Kim's challenge to use blue and yellow - challenge details are for Fan Club members only) That’s it!
Only Fan Club Members will be able to upload to this event gallery and win prizes, but everyone will be able to view and comment on your creations.
So if you haven't joined the Fan Club yet - what are you waiting for? This is your Dirty Dare! Join here and join in the fun!
OH - and did I mention there are prizes? Because there are prizes. Details will be posted in the Dare to Get Dirty forum

Ooooh, I'm so excited to see the Dare To Get Dirty Challenges announcement for 2015! I'm looking forward to playing again this year. Last year my computer crashed and I didn't get nearly as many finished as I had hoped. Hoping to do much better this year Thanks to all the Dirty Dozen Designers for their hard work and participation because I know this will be a fun challenge.

Hooray! The DTGD challenges were the reason I joined the Fan Club many moons ago! I've re-upped every year (sometimes past the end of the previous subscription because I forget - oops!), so I can support this oh-so-wonderful site and so I can play in this oh-so-fun event! I'm STOKED!!!

Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see what the challenges are this year! Hopefully they will be quick and easy so we can get them all done in one week. LOL! I don't remember how many we had last year, like 50?? That was a real challenge!!!

I am going to offer to my husband and our daughter that they can plan the meals, I will make sure the food items are here but I am neither cooking nor cleaning the kitchen from Aug 1-7...I already know we are going on a picnic the afternoon of the 8th...
Would you be surprised if it is 7 days of 7 different ways to have pizza? I won't...
Paper plates are certain...or they will have more dishes to wash...

Card fronts are cut, some images colored, some sentiments stamped, have pile of "odd" pieces trimmed.
Surfed Pinterest today for some technique videos (I'm not a technique person so I need some help!) and straightened stamp desk...
Next...need to re-organize SU stamps and familiarize myself with what other stamps I have to use.

One thing I've learned from my first year doing the Dare to Get Dirty challenges was to clean my scoreboard and my paper cutters before all the challenges start... I didn't realize how dirty or how much sticky stuff I had on my small cutter until I tried to do a white background in a hurry. SO...... I guess it is that time of year to clean house again...
White card stock, check
Juicy Memento ink pad, check
Clean equipment, check
Husband retired to cook meals, check... ( my favorite item on the list)

Worst possible week for me! I am so sad! I have my niece's wedding on the 8th and I am the baker!! Baking for 300 guests!! Cakes and cheesecakes, so I have a full week!
And then the 9th is my oldest son's anniversary! YIKES And of course they told me yesterday that they are having a party for my birthday which is August 2nd! It's a biggy - 60!
Is the upload by date Monday the 10th? 10 P.M. ? Now I am depressed!! Love DTGD week!!

I spent much of yesterday late afternoon/evening surfing about techniques...I don't often do techniques and I expect there will be some during DTGD...
Here's one I found that I'm sure I can do...

Although I've been a Fan Club member for years this will be my first Dare to Get Dirty event! Whaaaa?!?!?!
I think my schedule is clear for that week because my daughter goes back to school (6th grade!) on the 3rd. "Summer" will officially be over for us. SIGH
Any clue on how many challenges per day should I be prepared for?

Welcome, Shannon! DTGD is a blast! In the past, there have been anywhere from 5 to 7 challenges per day. I'm guessing we will have similar numbers this year - be prepared for 5 each day, maybe more. Maybe they will take pity on us this year and only have 3 challenges each day - but don't count on it! They are "challenges" for a reason!! LOL
From what I remember in the past, the challenges are all different. There might be a few sketch challenges, maybe some color challenges, and some "use this thing" challenges. Since Lydia is in charge, she usually likes to throw in a technique or two, but there is no way of knowing what it will be. (Unless she is reading this and she gives us a hint????) Once in a while there is something easy like use ribbon or use buttons or use a stamp of a tree on your card.
So the best advice from those who have done DTGD before is to clean up your stamp room/area and have all your tools and stamps and embellishments ready to go. That way you can hit the road running on August 1.

It never hurts to have bases cut and scored. Have some backgrounds made ahead or images colored. Anything to help cut down on time if you are trying to do them all. It sounds like we can combine these. You can't combine in HYCCT because they want lots if cards because those get sent to the cancer center. These are just challenges. I think we can use them as we wish? Hope I'm right on that. A year is a long time for my brain to retain! LOL

Aaugh!! I just came back from my first pt session for tenosynovitis in my left (non-dominant) hand. Not good! There may be a stress fracture! This cannot be. DTGD will be happening soon, and I'm supposed to REST my wrist? NO!

It is always a challenging time of year for me to participate because I really should be gearing up for a new homeschool year, but I love playing along so we'll see!
My hints would be along the lines of what others have said:
Clear off your desk and photographing area
One of the benefits of clearing off the desk would be all the "leftovers" from things you didn't use on other cards-sort them out into bags of colored images, sentiments, strips, etc
Plan a way to keep track of the challenges~I've used a composition book where I wrote one or two challenges onto each page with ideas for what I'll do to meet them and then the card details.....or what I've done for HYCCT and DTGT is to write each challenge onto an index card and then punch holes in the corners and keep them on a jump ring, similarly writing the challenge and ideas on the front and then the details of what I made on the backs.
I did cut some bases ahead of time and also white/cream liners for insides of cards darker in color but other than cleaning up to have more room I didn't do much else ahead.
Here's my pinterest board from last summer's DTGD cards
Looking forward to a new year of fun as much as I can fit in!

Hello all!
Kramomma, I like the way you think! I think I need to talk to my peeps tomorrow about them making supper that week. It shouldn't be too much to ask but.........
Shannon our teens go back the 7th with orientation on the 6th. I think this is one year I am going to be able to avoid the last-day-before-school starts shopping errand. Least I hope so! BOTH kiddos will be in high school! Yikes!
Oh Brenda, sniff, sniff...so sorry to hear about your hand. I can't imagine!
Ann, I am so sorry to hear you will have to miss DTGD this year. Sounds like you have a week full of excitement headed your way though!
I am off to put up a post in the favorites thread now! While you wait for DTGD why not stop by and see some of the gorgeous cards you might have missed this week?

Gail, I loved looking back at your Pinterest board for the 2014 Dare to Get Dirty challenges. You made some super cards.
Hey girls, frozen dinners or pizza for one week won't hurt your family. Maybe they will just learn to appreciate your cooking even more.
The time is getting closer. Yay!
