Default Crafters are the BEST enablers!

So - I've been trying to avoid spending money on this hobby of mine/ours, and I've been really, really good about avoiding paper and stamps, but...

I've also been reorganizing and purging and all of that, and I've been reading threads over in the Mission: Organization forum for ideas to tweak my system(s). I used to have my stamps indexed in binders after reading THIS (post #13), but they're so bulky and take up so much space that I decided to switch to a Rolodex system like THIS so, of course, I had to buy a Rolodex.

THEN, I wanted to refine my stamp storage system and Diane's system (posts #2 and #12) - in a slightly modified version (5 1/2" x 8 1/2" binders instead of drawers) - looked the most appealing, but required a laminator and the pouches that go with them. She buys the pouches cheap at Sam's Club, and I also found a reasonably-priced laminator there ($21.47 including tax and free standard shipping). The problem? I'm not a member - or, at least, I wasn't this morning...

The rest of the story goes like this: my Rolodex arrived last Thursday, I joined Sam's Club this morning, the laminator will be here between January 29th and February 4th, and I will be visiting our local Sam's Club between now and then. Thanks, ladies!

So so true. Most of the things I purchase seem to be because of interesting threads here!

Ahhhh, Sue! I just loved your tale! Glad to be one of the enablers! And have a great amount of fun modifying your storage. I'm still plugging away at mine.

I love Patter's Rolodex. Be sure to post pics when you're getting it filled up.

Oh, no - thank YOU, Diane! I'm antsy already - it'll be f..o..r..e..v..e..r until that laminator gets here! I think I'll unmount the last remaining cling-mounts I have in my stash while I'm waiting...

How many stamp sets/ pieces of paper per Rolodex or how many Rolodex's will it take to complete your task?

Just wondering for a modest stamp collector, myself compared to others on SCS, how many Rolodex's would be need to index a stamp collection?

I think that Pater has two so far. There are several styles of Rolodex organizers. The one that I got has 500 cards, plus alphabetical dividers. I'm pretty sure that I'll be altering the dividers so that I have categories instead of ABCs. I also plan to stamp on the front and back of each card, and - if the images are small - more than one to a card, so I'm hoping that I'll only need the one. Even if I have to have another one, it will still take up less space and be easier to use than the binders...

Since I am just beginning my binder, I am interested in hearing how this change works for you. I read Patter's Rolodex system and thought that would be more of a bother than the binder. Yikes, I would prefer to spend time crafting than organizing and re-organizing. Perhaps that's just part of this hobby.

I don't know if it's part of the hobby for everyone, but it has almost taken over in the Sue-niverse! The biggest problem I found with the binders is that you can only put (at the most) nine cards on a page (18 if you count the back, which - of course - I did) and the trading card pages are kind of thick, so there are a limited number that will fit in a binder. I have two binders already, and I'm not even halfway through the indexing. Granted, I have a lot of stamps, but I also have at least two - and up to nine or ten - images on most of the cards (depending on the size of the image).

The Rolodex cards are thinner than my regular cardstock, so more of them will fit on the spinner than if I used that (although I could, since I have Rolodex punch). I decided that it would be just as easy - or easier - to flip a Rolodex around than to haul out a binder and flip through it. Everyone has to do what works for them, and I'm hoping that this will be my "final solution", as I've tried every single other one that I've ever heard of already...

Oh Sue - you are surely singing to the choir here. Thanks for the tale, fortunately for me the local Sam's is 45 min away but from there a LSS only two miles to the Scrapbook Super Station.

Update: The laminator arrived this morning (I just ordered it Thursday - that was FAST!), so I went to Sam's and got the pouches and have already finished a few pages - stamped, laminated and loaded up with the stamps. I'm stamping Rolodex cards as I go, so double-duty on the stamping. This will take a while, but will be SO worth it! It does my (only slightly) OCD heart happy to see ONE UNIFORM SYSTEM for every stamp I own! I'll post pics when I get farther along on the project...

So funny... I have been trying to reconfigure my punches and ribbons, and looked through posts here to see what other folks do... my stamping room is in disarray, but I have a couple of dowels and a list for Ikea...

I'm trying to make everything as compact and uniform as possible, so I use bare rubber with 2-in-1 Sailor Glue on the backs. Even thin EZ mount is too bulky for me...

I love the title of this thread. It can go either way. Crafters are the Best enablers, or the Worst! Worst because it means you just have to have what they are talking about lately, whether you need it or not!!!
