Default Christmas cards for nursing homes

For the last several years I've made Christmas cards (a couple each month) and then in November there were some gals who collected them to send to folks in various nursing homes around the country. It's recently been announced that group will no longer collect them, so this year's stockpile is sitting on my shelf. If you participate in or know of someone who could use these cards, can you please share that information on SCS. Thanks in advance..

Please check under Cards for Cause section.  There are often sites listed there that will
request Christmas cards.

You might want to call nursing homes in your area to see if they are accepting them. I know that some are not, due to COVID concerns, but one in our area will accept them if you send at least a month in advance. That way they can "quarantine" the cards to make sure they are safe. I make a lot of cards to donate around Christmas as well so have the same situation of stockpiled cards.

I hadn't checked here---thanks for the suggestion.  I do often look at the "Need a Lift" thread.

I called several around here and all are accepting cards - two people said they just don’t handle them for 24 hours. (My mother-in-law was in the hospital and then in a nursing home for rehab and that’s exactly what they did, plus anything that came in plastic was held for three days.)

And since not everyone celebrates Christmas, happy holiday cards are requested too.

Jennifer McGuire posted this link recently. This drive is for nursing homes. It started for holidays but now they are looking for all year round too.

I know that the home my mom lives in could use them but it would probably coat you a small fortune to mail them to Canada.

I believe this card drive is suspended for 2020...but you could always send your cards to "Bring Smiles to Seniors" (info online and on Instagram)

Where would one find the Cards for Cause section? I tried a search but wasn’t successful. Thanks

This is premature because I haven't checked into it, but I had the thought a week or two ago to offer cards to women's shelters.  My hunch is that these women cannot afford to buy birthday cards for their children, so I have been making cards for kids and will soon see if they are wanted.  I also have been thinking about making "caring" cards for the clients at our Rape Crisis Center here.

I know that the women's shelter near my daughter's home accepts cards all through the year, including holiday cards. It would be a good idea to call your local shelter to find out if they are accepting them, especially during the COVID crisis. A lot of people could use a pick-me-up during these stressful times.

Yes, the card drive has been suspended this year, so that Vera can take some much needed family time. Here is her post regarding that. She directs people to the Bring Smiles website instead.

Rita beat me to it...for future reference it is on the main forum page, under Splitcoast challenges.

Sorry!! looks like I linked to last years drive not this years. I knew about the change with Vera. Thanks for catching that and putting up a current link. I didn't even check the date after searching on the site. I assumed it would given me the one she just did. As Felix said....when you assume...lol.
