Default Christmas card colors

In addition to the traditional red and green, what other colors do you use for Christmas cards?

This year I have been doing some in cranberry/burgundy and dark forest green on cream cardstock, "antiquing" some, and even tried olive green and plum. I figure it's all the same color family (reds and greens). But a coworker saw them and was very critical...

I don't have a scanner to post them, but want some feedback on the colors I chose.

Thanks

I think that you can send out any color of Christmas cards that you like! Those all sound like very pretty combos. Have fun!

Ditto! My mom & dad's cards were WAY on the non-traditional side last year. She wanted something funky, so we did Pink Passion card, then layered on that was shaving cream paper done w/Pink Passion and Tempting Turquoise. We used Pink Passion & Tempting Turquoise mulberry paper, and the two angels from Angelic. I'll have to dig one out one of these days and scan. I was hesitant, but the end result was great, and perfectly suited to Mom's personality.

Very funky. She got a ton of compliments on them! They were so "Debbie"!

Go with what is YOU, and you'll be happy sending them out!

This year I like the Brocade Blue, Ballet Blue or the Not Quite Navy. Not all together, of course! I'm just not sure what colors to put them with.
I was just recently in a Christmas swap and all sorts of colors were used, including Black, and every single card was beautiful. Have you done a search in the gallery for Christmas? I imagine the number of results would be overwhelming, but it is great for getting some ideas and perhaps you may see someone else used the same colors you used.
Don't let what one person's comments dictate your creativity!

I think I may use Bordering Blue. It looks sort of cold and "snowy" blue to me.

I agree with Jenn. Go with whatever colors YOU like.

Last year I did some with eggplant envy and gold metallic cardstock. I really liked them and got tons of compliments on them. I also did some with real red and mellow moss.

I like to make a variety of cards rather than 100 of the same card.

I'm sure whatever you come up with will be perfect.

I just got done making a slew of christmas cards that were yoyo yellow, tempting turquoise and brilliant blue. I put three christmas trees from nice and narrow on the front and brayered glorious green over the versamark stamped image. They are very cute!

I'm planning to use Night of Navy and metallic silver. Not sure what I'll stamp on it yet, but like the color combination. I think the burgandy and darker green sounds nice together. If you like it, don't listen to critical comments!

Has anyone else noticed (it was pointed out to me) that the Holiday Mini's samples are in the "out of the box" Christmas colors instead of traditional green and red. I guess even SU is pushing people out of the box and toward some different combos.

I don't do Christmas cards, but my Winter/New Years cards are usually in blue tones.

I have been doing a lot of my Christmas cards in Night of Navy as well as Kraft with Forest Foiliage. And yes I have done Christmas cards with Black cardstock. It depends on the look you are going for - traditional, contemporary, country, antique or whatever. I'm sure your cards are beautiful - those colors definately work well together.

Thanks for the encouragement. I like the combos I've used, but since I'm doing a couple craft fairs, I thought what if my color choices just match my quirky personality. hehehe

Some of my color combos came from wallpaper samples that I picked up at Menard's. So, if it works in home decor, it should work in cards, too.

Emily, have you posted your yellow, turquoise and blue card? It sounds spectacular.

My vote's for copper "anything" this season. I'm using copper cardstock, emobossing, cord and brads....don't have a design yet but I know it will be coppery!

Lat year I did some of my cards in bliss blue and orchid oppulence and those were the cards I received the most compliments on. I think it was because the colors made them stand out from the rest of the pack. I say, anything goes

My last years' Christmas card is in my gallery - the snowman one. I used Ballet Blue, Ruby Red and Eggplant Envy.

Don't be discouraged by your co-worker's comments. Some people just don't really understand color. I grew up with my Mom telling me, "You can't wear purple and green together..." but that's one of my favorite color combos for cards!

Ignore your coworker! There was an article in the fine living section of my local paper last year that talked about the trend toward nontraditional colors for Christmas. Fewer and fewer people are going the red-and-green route and opting instead for blue, burgundy, gold, silver, and dark, rich shades of green and purple. I personally hate bright red and green together, and gravitate toward jewel tones.

Pooh on your co-worker!!! My whole house is done in Burgundy and Forest Green instead of Bright red and green! And putting it with the cream is wonderful! Don't forget how many things are done in Blue/Silver as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your color combo. And for a craft fair, there will be others doing that color scheme as well - it's very popular. Your co-worker [pardon my french] doesn't know what they are talking about.!

Ok, I'm done ranting!

I made some cute cards (if I do say so myself) with Flaky Friends in Bordering blue, Ruby red, and mellow moss. I like 'em, but my mom is very traditional and only likes red and green. I think everyone has their own style. I say do what you like!

trudee, your card is beautiful! I love the accents with the CE. I know what you mean when you said the picture doesn't do the card justice. When I scan a card that has glitter, CE, or EP, the scan isn't nearly as nice as the actual thing.

I really like the Rich Regals for Christmas cards. Did a lot of Night of Navy and Baroque Burgundy last year. I used the Holiday wishes tree in a few different ways - inked some, silver embosed others.

I haven't decided on my cards for this year, but did stock up on the N of N and BB paper packs already, remembering my demo told me they were on back order last year in November.

I too intend to use copper with blues. I did by some forest green, but it will probably be as an accent color. I don't think I have ever sent traditional cards, even when I bought them.

The most popular color combination at my Christmas card workshops has been Mellow Moss with Baroque Burgundy (and vanilla). Very pretty and elegant.
I also did one with Night of Navy, some Irridescent embossing and silver cord that came out great!

This year I'm making my own cards (last year i was barely getting started in stamping) and I'm using bordering blue and night of navy with the snowman from A beautiful season.

Default Christmas card colors

Last year I used mellow moss, real red, a touch of gold with celery organdy ribbon. I'll post one in my gallery. This year I'm going with brocade blue and white with touches of barely banana, vanilla, gold, silver and vellum. I try to coordinate with the pictures we send in the card.
I agree that whatever YOU like is perfect! I just love it when you can see people's personality in their choice of cards.
