I'm hoping to catch up on a few of the challenges this week. My cleaning/errands on Monday took longer than I wanted.

I can never seem to get to the craft room on house cleaning day OR errand day. Either my mind can't switch gears creatively or my body is too tired.

Thanks so much for posting the challenge, Elisabeth brought home the bug the theatre kids are generously passing around.

If you had the time to play with today's challenge, how would you fill those little squares?

Misti chose snowflakes and Diane used scraps that look like quilt blocks.

I would probably have cats make an appearance! Hmmmmmmm!

An unexpected house guest has meant no stamping time for me apart from Monday . I would have gone really CAS with the sketch and simply added three small dry-embossed and coloured squares on a white background, I think. At least, that's what came to mind .

The Ways To Use It challenge is up! Add Burlap!!! Sounds like the perfect beginning for a fall card!

Did you know there is a Christmas Challenge for Fan Club members? There is a brand new challenge on the first day of the month so come and join in the fun!

How did you spend Halloween night?

My daughter organized an outing for her youth group and then ended up being too sick to join them. She has generously shared her germs with me. We had a quiet night in and as usual no trick or treaters since we live out in the boondocks. I wanted to recapture the good old days and go out to eat where we used to get a snack after taking the kids trick or treating but my husband wasn't having it. Just a warning, if you don't want to feel the pull of nostalgia don't load old pics to your new computer! Waaaa! My babies are all grown up!

Hmmmm... I don't have any burlap. I saw some burlap ribbon the other day & nearly bought some. It was at Dollar Tree. I need to run in there tomorrow, so I'll see if it's still there.

We were at the archery range tonight. Kevin had 2 archery lessons with other students & then worked with our boys.

Burlap ribbon is lovely. That was actually my plan A, but it didn't come together so I moved onto plan B. I think we had 7 littlies call to the door and that was it...glad I hadn't bought much candy. But there were some fabulous fireworks which I got to see as I walked our friend out to the road to show her where to get the bus later this morning so that we can meet after work for a little shopping.
There are a couple of burlap background stamps around too. SU, but I feel I've seen another one too. They may not be actual burlap but I'm sure they'd count.

Despite rain, thunder and lightning we had the most TOTers in years! It was fun. I gave them TONS of candy each because I thought the rain would eventually call it off, so there are some happy kids on my street. BOO on the germs and the growing up too fast!

Hey there!

I've been stalking this thread for a while. Finished a big commitment last week, so I am kicking back into challenge gears! I have some burlap ribbon, and THREE family birthdays on November 11...I better get busy!

I also had to finish my hostess samples for TOMORROW night's Mini Virtual Stamp Night!! It's going to be so much fun!

Sorry for the excessive use of exclamation points...I can't help it.

You are going to love today's Free For All Challenge. Pull out a stamp that you bought more than a month ago but never inked up! I have quite a few stamps that need some love, how about you?

The MIX challenge is to make a collage from text paper. The gallery already looks super cool.

Our challenges today could easily be combined.
Do you have a book(s) that you tear pages out to use for collages? Do you use script stamps instead?

I bought a book at a thrift for just that purpose but I have struggled to tear the pages out and use it! I do have a script stamp but I never liked how my stamped script looked. I am thinking maybe I should try stamping on copy paper and then aging it with distress inks instead of my heavyweight card stock.

Just a reminder...for the MIX challenge you don't have to have an old book (I have several..some in different languages....Half Price books)...try using a newspaper or an old phone book (why do they even give those out anymore?)...or you can always stamp some script ....I had fun gluing my pieces to see what I'd come up with. Hope some of you guys will check it out!

Angie, I bought a book to use its pages but when I read some of it, I wasn't sure I wanted those words shown! So I'd just advise choosing the right book if you plan to do that! LOL

Polly, we got our new phone books and nearly fainted. Only about 1/8" thick now! I wouldn't use the number pages in those, though, but maybe the advertising pages.

I bought a dictionary at a thrift store that was falling apart. Today’s MIX challenge gave me an idea for an upcoming challenge that I’ve been stuck on. (VSN Mini is tonight!! )

I can definitely do the Free for All challenge - I have far too many stamps that haven't been inked up! But the Mixability challenge is very hard for a retired librarian to do - not sure I can rip up a bunch of different book pages!

I have some retired SU dsp that looks like book pages, so I can cut that up guilt free!

And stamps purchased but not yet inked?? Where do I start?

I still have quite a few pages in the pack I bought several years ago - a local business put together “ephemera packs” made up of pages from books that were not in saleable condition, she just pulled out pages that were sound and made them into mixed bundles for art and craft use, great idea!

I don't think I've ever bought a book for card-making with, but I've picked up several for free because there's a shelf outside our library where people can leave books they've finished with, and where the library will put books taken out of circulation. The Reader's Digest novel (DuMaurier's The Scapegoat) and the Polish maths book I used on today's card both came from there. I love and respect books, but I have no hesitation in using old ones on cards. Better that than being pulped. But I love using script stamps too and have quite a few - a couple of Hero Arts ones were amongst my very early buys and still get used on a regular basis.

Oh, how fun, I have loved reading everyone's thoughts regarding text!
I like the idea of finding an old dictionary. I will have to keep my eyes open!

Y'all! You have to check out the VSN! They are even posting Christmas songs in the challenge threads. Now that is festive! I have the perfect stamp to play in Misti's challenge. Maybe I will get the chance tomorrow!

The Inspiration Challenge is up for any night owls or for those on the other side of the globe! Julie has chosen a great site!

Ok, here is a batch of questions for the day.

When did you play in your first VSN? Do you recall the theme? Have you ever hosted a VSN? Will you get the chance to play in this VSN? If you played last night or today go ahead and link your cards so we can check them out!

If you can find it link up your very first one or two VSN card(s).

My first VSN was easy to find because it was shortly after I joined SCS. Warning my first card isn't good! LOL I like the second one just a bit better so I am going to link that too. I just remember the joy of playing along with VSN and feeling like I was a part of a group of people who were also creating along somewhere in the world with me! Like you a Latte!and Friendship

I cannot remember how many VSN's I have hosted but I always have a blast! I hope to play along with at least the Charlie Brown challenge because I have the absolute perfect stamp for that!

Now it's your turn, tell us about VSN!

I do like to play in the VSNs....it has helped me speed up my process and it's a good way to get a bunch of cards done especially if you need holiday ones. I have hosted a couple of times and that's always fun. Here's are a couple of my first VSNs from 2011

DEC11VSNMINI1 Warm and Snuggly Place by peeps321 - at Splitcoaststampers

DEC11VSNMINI3 Rubber Stamp Angel by peeps321 - at Splitcoaststampers

And here are the two I just made this morning for the current VSN

I often looked at the VSN uploads but didn't first participate till Feb '12, and this was the card I made for the Mini: MAR12VSNMINI1 Here a Chick. Not much likelihood of playing along in this Mini as we still have our guest, though I have plenty of suitable stamps, and even one of Snoopy decorating a tree.By the time I can get stamping again I'll be too busy to play catch-up. I've hosted several times, before life got busier.

Shame on me - I've never entered a VSN challenge before. They rarely seemed to cross my radar, and when they did, I didn't quite understand them - I didn't realize that you had more than just the evening they were posted to enter, but if I'm reading them correctly, I have until Dec 24 to post my card, and it should be a card that takes an hour or less to make and follows the challenge them. If I'm misinterpreting it, let me know.

Thanks for getting me more curious about them! Since they are for Christmas cards this time around, I'm going to try some.

Hmmm first VSN for me ( according to my blog ) would have been in 2011.

here is one Guarded Heart by JBgreendawn - at Splitcoaststampers

and here is one from last night
DEC18VSNMINI1 Glad Tidings by JBgreendawn - at Splitcoaststampers

Susan, I think with as many Christmas cards you do, you would enjoy these challenges. (and you have tons of time to upload, its just the time goes a little fast if you do them live)

So I did it - I made my first two VSN cards. A perfect thing to do on a day when it's been pouring with rain non-stop. And I combined one of them with today's great Inspiration Challenge!

I stopped by and left notes on all the cards that were linked! So fun to see then and now cards! Susan, I am so glad you had the time to join the fun and participate in your first VSN!

Yikes! I am woefully late for our daily challenge but hopefully, you hopped on over there without my help! I glanced at our Featured Stamper's gallery and it's gorgeous.

I got the third VSN challenge done - had a perfect idea for it when I woke up!

Little Women by susanbri - at Splitcoaststampers

Just checked for tomorrow's challenges. Thrilled to see the TLC one is Stencils as I love using my stencils. The CAS one is "Ah Nuts" - either a card that went wrong and made you say "Ah Nuts" or just go with a Fall theme.

Susan, your card is gorgeous! I left a comment.

Here are the links to Monday's challenges! TLC715, Judy has linked up several techniques to try with stencils. It would be fun to try a stencil tutorial I haven't used before. CAS506 - Ah Nuts. Create a fall card or share one that went wrong.

Have you kept any of your cards that went wrong? I usually trash mine. Although, I do have to say that I wasn't totally happy with my Penguin Mischief card and it was my 2nd try. The first version was for the Fan Club Christmas challenge and at the last minute, I did one thing that took it out of the challenge requirements. I did say AH NUTS at that! It's sort of CAS, maybe I will add it but it's very similar to Penguin Mischief.

I'm really pressed for time right now, so I hope to make a stencilled card tonight that will also be for tomorrow's TPT challenge.

I'm more likely to totally trash a CAS card that goes wrong, although they can at least usually be used as a base to add a card front to. I find CAS much more unforgiving - a single smudge or misplaced element and it's spoiled. Other cards I think can almost always be upcycled or recycled. But if I wouldn't be happy sending it, there's no point in keeping it.

I agree, Sabrina, and I will reuse the base. Sometimes I will keep a fail just to see if down the road I am a better artist and can do something to save it but most of the time....
I have decided to post my Ah Nuts card.

Today I’m going to try to do a cleaning task & rotate stamping for 20 min. I have several ideas for cards in my head that I’d like to try to get on paper. Not sure if it will work, but I know if I wait until after I clean house, I have zero creativity mojo!

I like your ideas Misti, let us know if it works.

Regarding cards that have gone wrong, I usually just recycle the card base. My biggest ever 'save' was a face transplant. I was so impressed with it, I inserted a picture LOL.
