Well, I got yesterday's Christmas card that I was working on last finished and uploaded. And one more step on a layered gesso background - the acrylics are drying now. And I also stamped the two index cards for the SU gallery index project that I volunteered for. That, at least, was easy because they both had too many stamps to try to make an actual card, it's simple an index for reference. But it's ticked off my list, which is good . DH will be home in about twenty minutes so then it will be coffee time and make macaroni cheese for dinner.

This week has been crazy!! My parents were in town through yesterday, so we spent time with them in addition to archery practice. I’m not used to being away from home like that. I don’t want to say this too loudly, but I think I’ll have more time tomorrow & Fri to stamp.

I hope you get it! But I'm sure it was nice to have time with your folks.

Oh, Misti, I hope you get time to stamp today and tomorrow!!! Steve leaves on a backpacking trip tomorrow so I will get time to stamp tomorrow too. Yay! Today I will be out alllllllllllllllllllllll day. If I have a little extra energy left over you know I will want to play in this week's WT711 challenge! PINK!!! I love pink!

Ok, friends, I have a super easy question for you today. What is your favorite color? Do you have a favorite color combo?

Pink, I love that color! I feel like I tend to fall for almost any color combo and think, "that's my favorite" but I truly think the most powerful color combo is black, White and Red.

When I saw the pink challenge today, Angie, I knew you would want to make a card for it. Too bad you will be out all day.

I agree about the red, black, and white combo....so striking.

My favorite colors are coral and turquoise. I probably don't use them much,
if ever, together. I guess I don't use either one that much but they are still
my favorite.

I do love purples and blues together, especially in watercolors.

I also love coral and turquoise and I use them together in Summer, beachy cards - my favorite theme for card making!

Those are perfect colors for beach cards. Claudia. Maybe if I looked back I would find I used those on beach/underwater cards, also. I love making those kinds of cards. too.

It's Friday already! The Free For All challenge is up and we are to make a Fall or Halloween themed card.

The MIX challenge is to be inspired by a Royal Garden.

If you send out/give away Fall or Halloween cards do you have enough in your stash?

I don't send out Halloween (no littles to send to) but I do make them with pretty things I get from companies so this year I am going to get a bag of individual Trick or Treat M&Ms and as I run errands next week I am going to hand them out! I have quite a stash of cards to give away!

Whine alert: I've had wonderful ideas for many of the challenges over the past week or two, but haven't been able to execute ANY of them! Life is hectic these days and I had a time-consuming project going for my daughter that I just finished Tuesday and mailed off Wednesday:

It's a "Dia de las Muertas" banner and those die-cut sugar skulls are finicky to assemble! I was going to reduce the banner down to just the three skulls between the four stamped panels, but changed my mind and did all five. I'm pleased with how it turned out, and my daughter will be thrilled, but afterwards I was kind of fried on the creative front so I trimmed some new stamps (Mistletoe Farm - Stacey Yacula's new collection at Purple Onion Designs - I'm totally addicted) and put two-way glue on them and tucked them into their new home in my stamp collection. Saturday is pretty much shot, but I'm hoping to play on Sunday!

Sabrina - I recognize those stamps! I've eyeballed them multiple times, but managed to not cave and buy them. Your card is so cute I may have to change my mind!

No time since last Sunday for crafting this week until today. So got cards done for Ways to Use It and Free for All. I like them both but not as much as I like the card I made on Sunday for the Inspiration Challenge - funny how we can be just so thrilled by one of our own creations and then just okay with others.

Angie, you asked what my favourite colour is - it is blue without a doubt. I'm not a huge pink fan so making the card for Ways to Use It was a challenge for sure! But I totally agree with you that red, black, and white is a fabulous combination - might just have to go off and make something in those colours!

Sue the banner is stunning!!! I can see why you would be tired after working on this amazing creation!!!

Susan, I will check out your card! You know I love pink. It's been a whirlwind of a week so I wasn't able to play along but I am definitely checking out the PINK gallery before I make a favorites of the week list!

Brenda is our hostess for the Inspiration Challenge this week. She has chosen a very pretty fabric store to inspire us! I used a cute little fox print to inspire my card.

Questions:
Have you ever sewn your own clothes? Doll Clothes?
Have you ever quilted?
Have you or do you currently sew on your cards?

I did sew my own clothes for a period of time. Never got good at it. In the end I despised it. LOVED making doll clothes.
I quilted for a while and loved it but I tend to take on projects WAY too big for me so as a beginner I tried to make a queen size quilt and I was pregnant with my first baby! I have never sewed on my cards because I don't really have a place for the sewing machine anymore and I kind have a love/hate relationship with the machine.

Now it's your turn....

I hated the sewing part of Home Ec in high school!!! The only sewing I do now is sewing a button back on. I have wanted to see on cards, but haven’t purchased a mini machine, so it’s all faux stitching for me.

When I was in high school, I made a dress. Now, I wouldn't know how to begin. My mother was a fabulous seamstress, even made formal gowns and suits. She made my cheerleader outfits and ones for all the cheerleaders. Looked like they came right out of a store.

Cross stitch and needlepoint was more my thing. Would love to find time for needlepointing but I guess cardmaking is my love and have time for nothing else.

My sister gave me a sewing machine to sew on my cards. Do I use it? NO, but would love to find time to get it out and find out how to use it. HA

I sewed in home ec in school. Other than that, only easy projects. I sew on cards occasionally, even though I love seeing it on other's cards! Yesterday I sewed a button on a flannel shirt while I was wearing it! Too cold to take it off! LOL

I started sewing my own clothes when I was about 6, still like to when I have time! So the level of sewing we did in school was just as boring for me as the level of cooking, which I also started at a very young age. I gave up Home Ec as soon as I could. I was accepted for a course in dressmaking and design after I left school but went for cooking instead. Actually engineering would have been my first choice but I wasn't strong enough in maths and had a terrible teacher .
I often sew on my cards...in fact, DH talked me into buying a third sewing machine so that it would be easier for me to do so.
I loved making dolls clothes when I was in my teens...I made a Holly Hobbie rag doll and sewed all sorts of dresses and petticoats for her. But the only quilting I've ever done was a little patchwork quilt for my teddybear. It's one of my bucket list items...a tumbling block quilt in cream, deep pink and green.

I was exhausted today and slept all afternoon, but I have an altered canvas to photograph tomorrow.

I loved to sew, when I was younger. I made many of my clothes, curtains, gifts, etc. I learned to cross stitch and loved it, in my twenties. Then came my children. I did make Halloween costumes for my girls. In recent years, I haven't really sewed anything. My machine is put away. Threading the needle seems difficult with the eye-glasses on. I do enjoy seeing sewing on cards. I make the faux stitching these days.

Lisa, you better get that sewing machine out again. Sounds as if you are a pro. You reminded me my mom made Halloween costumes for my kids when they were little, too. She also made draperies....oh, if I had that gift.

Sewing is something I've DEFINITELY done a lot of! My mother and her mother and my paternal grandmother were all excellent seamstresses, so I had some good teachers. I still have a little doll I made when I was about six years old - I took it to church for several years do avoid boredom. I made most of my clothes from junior high on, then sewed all of my children's clothes (except jeans and sweaters) until they were old enough to care about peer pressure and fitting in.

I worked in a bridal shop for a bit but I HATE doing alterations! Then I took up upholstery (yes, there is a lot of sewing involved) and supported myself acting as a workroom for decorators - lots of cushions and pillows and table skirts and window treatments! I've made quilts (the machine-quilted kind) for grandkids and a few others. Five wedding dresses so far (mine, one of my sisters, two of my daughters, and a friend). Surprisingly, I rarely sew on my cards - mostly because I forget but also because it is uncomfortable for me (that perfectionist streak is never happy with the evenness - or lack thereof - of the stitching). I love the look, though, especially on others' cards!

Sue, you are soooo talented, also. For some reason, I could just never get into it. Wish I could have. And, I never tried quilting.

Sue, I am in awe! I just never became good enough to enjoy it. My sister worked for a bridal shop for several years. That is super hard work and crazy high expectations!

My mother was a wonderful seamstress - made suits, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, draperies - oh, everything! I learned to sew from her and though I never got to her level, I did sew a lot. Clothes for myself and our daughter, Halloween costumes, pajamas for all the kids in our family at Christmas, curtains... I do have my machine set up in my craft room but sadly, I rarely use it anymore. It's no longer economical to sew my own clothes and I haven't done it in years. Now and then I might stitch up a table runner or a fabric gift bag but that's about it. I never sew on my cards although I love the look. My mom tried to get me started on quilting years ago but it never took! we

I started sewing at an early age too. Sewing doll clothes gave way to making my own when I was 13. My mother was an excellent seamstress and taught me well. I had to take home ec as a senior for graduation credits and was bored stiff. Made my own wedding gown, suit jackets for hubby and clothes for my children. I taught sewing for a few years, community service level at a local community college. After I started working full time, time for sewing evaporated. Haven't done made anything for years! My sewing machine and a stash of fabric waits patiently.

I rarely add stitching to cards. I'm like Sue, can't stand the uneven stitching!

So fun to read all the stitching comments from yesterday's question!

Our Featured Stamper is Adriana aka fl_beachbum. I enjoyed visiting Adriana's gallery during the July VSN. Congrats Adriana!

Five Mondays this month. Karen is the "5th Monday" TLC hostess and she always has fun ideas. This time it's doodled plaid. I don't have any of the plaid builder stamps so I'll be making my own. There's the tutorial in Resources, or I might revisit TH's alcohol ink version...or with a holiday Monday here I might see what I can concoct with a plaid ef. I only just used up my leftover piece from the tutorial .

Jennifrann does an amazing job making her own plaid backgrounds. She does such a good job with them that most of the time I don't realize they are not DP until I read her description!

Both the TLC and the CAS challenges could be combined today.

Do you like to make your own patterned paper? Do you prefer to stamp or doodle when you make patterned paper?

I prefer to stamp because I am never happy with my uneven doodle lines. I look at wavy frame line borders others create and think it's fabulous but I cannot stand the way mine turns out. I haven't tried to make my own plaid yet but I would love to give it a try!

I'm excited to do Karen's plaid challenge today....looks like a lot of fun. And of course Jen is the expert at those...she makes such darling cards!

To catch up on a few of the recent questions...Yes I sew, started with doll clothes, made a lot of my own clothes, haven't done much lately...made some cute Grinch flannel pillow cases for Christmas gifts, also made some oilcloth reusable bags for everyone a few years ago. I come from a long line of sewers..my grandfather and g-grandfather were both tailors, and my mom sewed most of our clothes.

My favorite color is green although I love other colors as well..one of my favorite combos is lighter green and aqua. I must say though that it's fun working with combos I never consider....like the recent VSN challenge that you did Angie of yellow and black and white...that was great. There was a MIX challenge a while back too that had turquoise and orange...fun!

I love to make my own DP and I absolutely definitely prefer to stamp my own backgrounds - I'm not a doodler though I have become less intimidated by it with time. And of course now I have my gel plate for another background alternative .

I didn't answer on colours. Red, black and white is always classic. I think one of my own favourites to see in the gallery is red with teal/aqua/turquoise shades and cream. And in terms of my wardrobe, though you wouldn't know it from my cards, red is my favourite colour (after navy and white stripes ). In terms of cards - greens and browns get most use I guess.

My husband sews his backpacking gear! He has sewn a backpack, a tarp (not as easy as it sounds because it's not a regular tarp. He has sewn his backpacking hammock which is what he uses instead of a tent and he has sewn an underquilt which I hope he never does again!!! He has to fill baffles with down and the down flies everywhere.

Polly, your gifts sound fabulous!!

Sabrina, I need to get my gelli plate out and play more. I have only used once and it was so much fun.

Even just reading about the down flying everywhere is making me feel itchy and as if I need to sneeze! Did he have a special needle for the tarp? The specialised needles like the curved ones and one with sort of a triangular point always fascinated me. I have some of the special bullion (I think) ones which are almost the same width the whole way, they're great for seed beads.

I will have to ask. I am not sure if he used a special needle. One of his projects caused so much angst I finally firmly suggested he buy it already made which he gave in and did but still continues to sew his own hammock to make them better! The backpack he has used for years now. I am in awe of that. I think it's beginning to wear out and he will design a new one soon.

Today's colors for the Color Challenge are gorgeous! The gallery is going to pop!

This week's Tea Pot challenge is lace and the destination is one another!

If you have/had time to play what would you put on your Tea Pot card? Paper lace or fabric lace?

I would use one of my lace dies. I love the way a strip of paper lace adds a touch of femininity.

I have some lacy border stamps that look great heat embossed! I use those when the card is to be mailed because that lace lays flat!
