I do not remember my first VSN but, I am sure it was very nerve wracking for me. the time limits used to be less.

so, I think that is my favorite thing about those challenges is sometimes the challenge is way outside my comfort zone for one reason or another and there is no time to just putter around. (when I am playing live I try to get it done, and shot , and loaded to the gallery before the next one starts)

when I am playing catch up with it, my brain has time to worry about it for a while. so, I think I still "need" a painted rock ( which if I can find a smooth one and do this, I will most likely abandon it on the shelf at the drive through coffee shop for someone to find) the baby card ( I need to look through my already done cards stash so I pick something different to color), Anita's tutorial ( I need to make one of the bases to see how big the opening ends up being scale wise compared to my stamps, I may go a Christmas route and that is all I have thought about it so far) and the rock & roll tech. ( I do not have very many small roundish negative image stamps or solid stamps so the challenge for me will be finding a stamp to do it with)

I checked out your card Lisa, it's super cute! The pink and black are terrific!

Stacy, it looks like you have given good thought to the challenges. I almost thought I had one for the birthstone challenge but then I realized it took me longer than an hour.

Me too! 45 minutes for creating, then 15 to upload before the next challenge was posted!

I wasn't sure of my first VSN, so I looked in my gallery. It was February 2009. (Now I remember stating in the spring chat thread that this was my 10th anniversary with VSN!)

Sometimes I miss the extra fast pace, with the earlier deadline. I would get a VSN adrenaline rush! But I know the busy nature of life makes it difficult for many people to set aside a full weekend for stamping. Spreading it out over a week has helped some people.

But I still enjoy doing some challenges live!

I remember my first VSN. I loved the idea that maybe a bunch of us were all stamping together at the same time!

I posted my first card to my gallery on July 29, 2011.
I played in my first VSN Aug2011 and it looks like I created 2 cards. I do remember that it was hard not having a die cut machine and seeing everyone's pretty creations. I was brand new and had very few supplies but I loved every minute!

The teapot challenge is to use a sketch and we have a sweet destination for our cards.

Oh my, the colors today for CC747!!!! I hope I get the chance to play.

I meant to come back with an answer to your VSN question, Angie, but I needed to have the PC on to check. It looks as if it was Dec 12, and definitely the time limit back then was still 45 minutes. That was a real challenge to me because I am not a fast creator, but I know I learnt a lot from it. Now I like the challenge of working against the clock, but life has got so much busier that I don't get a chance to take part. It looks as if I have a full house from March 18, though.

I came late to VSN because in the earlier days it seemed as if most people were playing along in real time, and that was out for me. I'm also not one for colouring images in advance, so I needed to come up with cards that didn't require too much colouring .

Same. I missed this one because of my husband's surgery, but I'm very much looking forward to DTGD and all the challenges this summer!

Ooh the sketch is up... it has a tag on it. ( I like tags ) but, I struggle with the sketches. I really cringed when I seen the VSN one was covered with circles

( I tend to do squares and rectangles if I diecut the image panels)

Stacy, I’m the same with circles. I like straight lines and angles.

My first VSN was not long ago, because I’ve only been a member of SCS for about 3 1/2 years. I do know that I missed the actual VSN and completed all the challenges during the catch up period. In my early SCS career, I often didn’t realize I was missing things until I started seeing everyone’s cards in the gallery.
I still hope that someday technology will be such that we can all be on a video chat during VSN. How cool would that be?!

Wow, Sabrina you are going to be busy.

Lydia, I just posted my challenge idea for DTGD. It's always such a fun week. I hope your husband is having an easy recovery.

WT748 is all about tents - take it literally or make a tent fold card.

Who has made a tent fold card? Post a link so we can see one of your favorites if you would like.

I'm still seeing some division by zero error messages for links so I'm not going to try a link, but Anna's MIX challenge is a mixed media beach theme.

It's pleasantly warm here but not too hot. Some heavy thunder showers, DH cycled to work on Wednesday and arrived home like a drowned rat. At least it saves time when the garden doesn't need watering. And getting home wet is ok, arriving in work wet is a different ball game.

Alrighty, I think a lot of us are behind schedule with our Christmas card making so the color challenge will help us out this week!

The Teapot challenge is book themed plus extras.

We haven't had a question for awhile. So let's talk vacation.

Have you gone on a vacation this summer? Do you have one planned?
Do you take art supplies when you vacation? If so which ones?
If you do "staycations", what is your favorite thing to do to make you feel like you are taking a break from the every day?

The summer is our major “travel” season for archery, so that’s our vacation. We took some time while we were in the San Diego area to go to La Jolla to see the sea lions & seals. That had been on the list for several years of things we’ve wanted to do. We have a few things that we want to do locally before the summer is over.

DH and I both hate traveling, so we generally do day trips within an hour of our home. This year DS2 and I did two fishing trips with a guide service on a boat on the Susquehanna River north branch. That was 1 1/2 hours away and DH and I went to a wedding in York. That was 2 hours away. He would love to see the Frank Lloyd Wright house (Falling water), but that is about 4 hours and riding that long is hard on a body!

Sniff, we're already back from our holiday - 3 weeks tent camping in France. Already planning next year's trip . I usually do pop in something like a few stamped images and small pack of pencils, but I don't know why, because I rarely use them. But I guess it's better to have something than not... I did get to colour one page of a colouring book I got for Christmas. I also brought a knitting project but didn't do any of that at all.

We don't really do staycations, but last year and this year DH has had a trip to Maine in August. I guess that's my staycation, with minimal cooking . I might do a bit of sewing while he's away, depends on how busy work is. I already know I'll have to drop him to the airport early because I have to work that day.

Sabrina, that sounds like what I tell people all the time. I'd rather take something and not need it than to need it and not take it! LOL

Misti, I am glad your family had the chance to do something you have wanted to do for awhile!

Kathy, my husband and I are the opposite. We love traveling. Unfortunately the accident a year and half ago has changed my travel ability, mentally. I just totally freak out. I don't even like to go 2 hours away or one hour away for that matter if it's toward Atlanta. My husband and son are thinking of going 2 hours south to visit Andersonville. My son's thesis is going to be on Andersonville Prison. And I am debating on whether I can handle another trip. I have to take my daughter down there for college in August and we were just there in June so ...... It's a very weird feeling to not "be myself". I could actually feel my brain healing over the past few months and driving in town now is easy breezy. Maybe one day I can travel on the interstate without hyperventalating and enjoy a vacation again.

Sabrina, I agree about mini staycations when husband is away. I never mind Steve's weekend backpackig trips because it's like a mini staycation. The house stays cleaner and I don't cook!

Angie, I'm sorry traveling is stressful for you since you love it. The only stress we get is if we have to go through highly congested areas without knowing which lane we will need to be in for the next turn. We use the GPS or we don't go. So our hate of traveling is just the long times in the car to and from. I have a feeling time and prayer will heal you over time.

WT749 - Frame it! Sabrina has linked several tutorials that we can try or we can frame our projects another way. Sounds like fun to me!

What is your favorite way to frame an image?

I love using my frame dies. Years ago I bought some small plaster frames which I planned to use on a card, this would be a great time to break them out!

I'm not sure that I have a favourite way. I like making faux wood frames, but I also like just making a die-cut one, dry-embossing it and then sponging a little colour over.

Jeanne's F4A today is Base + 1 - a two layer card: F4A491 Base + one! 7.19.19 - Splitcoaststampers

And Lydia's MIX is marking the moon landing: MIX 338 - Apollo 11 - Splitcoaststampers

I wish had more time for that, I'm just making a quick card as I need to pack and tidy before going to dog-sit for the weekend.

OOoh the moon was huge here the other night. ( well it has been all week really) but, fun to see anyways.

I think my most common done framing is more like mats or slivers of mats from say a contrasting color. I hardly ever actually make them, but the one I like the best in the links of make some frames is the one that looks like counter sinking a photograph. ( and I am planning to try it just have to figure out the image to frame haha)

Sabrina, I have never dry embossed a frame. I bet that would really be gorgeous. I am going to have to try that soon!

Stacy linked our IC above. Even if you don't have time to make a card I recommend checking out the site. Wow!!!! Those photographs are something!!!

Any creative plans for this weekend?

I hope to create a die cut card today.
Also we bought some things for my daughter to take to college and we are going to unbox them and clean a new pitcher and try out the coffee pot etc.
