Yes, the joy (translation: headache) of an information junky brain. (Me, not pointing a finger at you unless you want to wear that badge too.). Too many options, not enough focus.

I finally figured a method to quickly make a card, given a passion for creating backgrounds with Oxides, watercolors, alcohol inks. Layering the background onto a base (sometimes 2 layers) with a sentiment (stamped/die cut), that’s that.

I just made one that way. The photo stinks (dark, old cell phone), but maybe I’ll put it in the gallery. In this case the sentiment was “hope” stacked three high, and it looks like there’s a little star in the background - just what the alcohol ink did on its own.

Hi Lois!!! It's always fun to see your take on the challenges! I am glad you found our chat!!

Sue, I have quite a collection pinned to Pinterest boards for the Inspiration Challenges. I always pin way more than I can do but I agree, it's a pretty board!

Post it, Post it, Beth!!! Even if the photo is dark. You have me curious. I want to see!

Today's WT707 challenge is ---- Kraft Card Stock. That is going to be a beautiful gallery!

What is your favorite way to use kraft?

As a base or framing layer

coloring directly on kraft

die cuts

Other

I am pretty certain I have never colored directly on kraft. I might try it though! I usually use it as my base or a framing layer with the focal layer of white on top of kraft.

Distresss Oxides on kraft are mahhhvalous.

The card colors look so dark and ugly. If I post it so you can see it, I better be able to delete it afterwards or someone will be in trouble!

ETA Where is the Ugly & Dark Gallery? I’ll put it there now.

Angie, I coloured directly on kraft for this card that I just posted for WT707.

I also often use it as a card base - may come back later today and do another one where I use it as a card base. It makes a nice rustic-looking card.

The MIX challenge is a sketch this week and the Free For All is to think small. 3x3 or 2 1/2 ATC Coin small.

Have you ever created ATC (cards or coins) and traded them?

I haven't but I am about to do coins, I really need to get busy on the coins since it is for a swap coming up!

Not coins or ATCs but inchies - the only swap I’ve done on SCS. It was challenging since I wanted to learn a new technique.

BTW, joggles.com sells different sizes of cold press watercolor paper artist trading coins, though making our own circles works too.

Their 2” size - 50 for $2.97 doesn’t hurt.
https://www.joggles.com/art-journals...inch-57083.htm

They also carry chipboard ATCs, including some with two holes drilled at the top to insert rings or string for making little flip books, etc.

Oh, and they have tiny stencils scaled to size for these smallest crafty items.

I didn't get to check in yesterday, got too busy making samples for Monday. I quite often use kraft bases, and I love colouring on it. The one I can easily buy here is Crafters Companion, I think, and it's nice and toothy but a little bit darker than SU's whatever they call it. I think it is really great for snowmen because the contrast between white and kraft is fabulous. Here's one of my favourite cards with colouring on kraft: Warm-Hearted Kraft

I used to make a lot of ATCs and took part in both SCS swaps and some Irish/UK ones. There's a steel I-bar in my attic and I have all of the ones I received displayed on that. They're a wonderful way of using up little oddments and scraps and then they can be turned into a quick card. My "heart of gold" card for a recent Teapot Tuesday used an ATC I had made just for fun. I made a couple of AT Coins when they were the MIX challenge a couple of months back... they're still sitting on my desk waiting to turn into something.

Beverly (ruby-hearted-mom) makes ATCs as technique samplers for all the technique challenges. She manages to miniaturise even the most complex folds!! Seeing her ATC album would be a dream come true for me.

Beth, thanks for sharing that site with us! Very cool! I like those circle stencils for ATCoins!

Sabrina, your card is stunning. I left a comment!

Wow, I can't imagine doing a fold the size of an ATC!!! That is impressive.

The IC669 challenge is up! I had such fun creating a scene for this challenge! Once I saw the site I knew I would design a card for my FIL. I used many of the pieces from the photo I shared on comment #56. I had the total opposite experience this week, it all came together like magic!

Do you have a favorite nature stamp?

Just found you all! I love challenges! My favorite is the TLC and I love the tutorials every Wednesday. I am active in the alpha and S2S18 challenges and try to participate in the MIX, CAS, FS when I can. I started on SCS through the sketch challenges. Those things really get ideas flowing!

Do we get a prize if we figure out all the abbreviations? Not being much of a challenger, I got two off the bat but will look at the days of the week to figure out FS and TLC (which I assume is not tender loving care since all of our cards get that).

I did one sketch challenge way back when - those get me very uptight so I pass, though need to get over it.

Not sure what IC stands for either but off to look, and I have a lot of nature cards that are my favorite, how to pick?

LOL! OK, TLC is technique lovers challenge, FS is featured stamper, CAS is clean and simple, MIX is the mixability challenge and IC is inspiration challenge (I'm guessing on that one!)

Kathy, you guessed correctly. IC is an Inspiration Challenge!

I am laughing because when I see TLC I think The Learning Channel! LOL

Beth, it all depends on the sketch and the day I guess for me. Last week I tried to do a sketch at another site and couldn't but this week it was easy peasy.

Am I allowed to say “whichever one I just picked up?”

I love botanical and natural-looking images, leaves, trees etc so picking just one is nigh on impossible! For something a bit different, I recently got the mushroom set from Power Poppy, I’ve had a mushrooms stamp by Deep Red for a while but the variety of mushrooms in Marcella’s set really appealed - I used the lovely wrinkly morels here

Well, a typical crazy Sunday for me so I am just getting around to popping by!
Our Featured Stamper this week is Chrissy, (DancesWithHooves)! Remember, if you are having a crazy busy week or do not have Sunday upload privileges, SCS Challenges never end. You can play anytime! It's so special to be a recipient of a Featured Stamper challenge so feel free to play this week!

What was the best part of your day today?

My 18-year-old daughter put her head on my shoulder while we were in church today. When an 18-year-old can be anywhere on Sunday morning and she chooses to teach toddlers and then sit in service with her mom, it's a beautiful thing!

Today's challenges are Telescope Card for The Technique Lover's Challenge and Fall Foliage for the CAS challenge!

Have you ever created a Telescope Card? I have not but if you have we would love to see yours so post a link!

Let's chat Fall cards. Do you enjoy creating fall cards? A friend and I had this discussion last year and we decided the reason fall cards are not our favorites is that we are not drawn to fall colors. I created a Fall card for the IC challenge and I think it turned out so cute. I have brown critters and orange leaves which are traditional but I added blue sky with orange and yellow clouds which seem to lighten the fall theme a bit. Here's Made It if you want to take a peek.

I love making autumn cards, love the rich colours. I have lots of leaf stamps and dies. With our temperate climate we don't get so many bright colours in real life. I just have to remember to send the cards on which I've used an autumn-themed sentiment at a suitable time! For a more non-traditonal look this is one of my favourites: MIX193 Season of Friendship

Obviously I've made telescoping cards . Glad I was awake early enough to make the challenge live before you posted here, LOL. I still love the first one I made for the original TLC back in 2011:TLC338 Asian Stack (Open).

Yes, I've made telescoping cards. I'm not sure if it was for a previous TLC or if it was for a Wednesday tutorial. Guess I'll have to check it out. Not sure I uploaded it to my gallery, but I think I did.

Although my go-to (aka in a rut) colors tend to be rainbow: pink/orange/yellow or shades of blue, I like autumn colors. This one was fun to make - my first/only (I think?) color challenge:

I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up by bjeans - at Splitcoaststampers

ETA Question: How come in the TLC challenge, the date is 9/27 above on the left above Sabrina’s name but 10/1 for the challenge?

ETA Question: How come in the TLC challenge, the date is 9/27 above on the left above Sabrina’s name but 10/1 for the challenge?
I love the card! I left you a comment!

The 9/27 is when Sabrina wrote up the challenge, I believe. We have a staging area where we can write up our challenge and make sure it all looks good before we move it over on the day the challenge goes live.

Sabrina, I looked at both of your links and left comments. Both cards are fabulous! LOVE the color combo on the fall card!

I am glad the post was up too! I went to bed WAY too late last night or to be more accurate, way too early this morning. I posted early in hopes of streamlining my morning a bit.

I heart this thread, Angie! Are you going to continue it like it is or does it deserve a heading and would get a new start (thread) every month? Or a new start every month and no heading?

(Weird brain comes up with too many options and questions, mea culpa. )

Yes, exactly. I'm super-organised and don't feel comfortable if I don't have my post ready a few days advance. At least then I know that in case of an emergency, another of the TLC team or Lydia could move it for me. Sometimes I have them prepared a couple of months in advance , but I've been sick for the last three weeks so by my standards I was shaving things pretty close. Plus, being in a non-US time zone, staging is my best friend. It's one thing to take 5 minutes to move and link card samples and move the challenge on my phone when I wake up in the morning. It's a totally different ball-game to have to write up and link a whole challenge from the get-go.

Beth, I think for now I am going to just keep things as is on this thread and just keep it going as long as people like to jump in and chat. When they lose interest, I will stop!

I am so glad you like it and I am glad to get to know you!

I am enjoying reading everyone's responses!!

ALSO: Anyone is free to post the links to the daily or monthly challenges if I am not spot on in the morning! I don't mind at all!!!

Today's Color Challenge is Dining on Figs, Olives and Pumpkins. It's a very pretty Fall color combo. What are your favorite Fall colors to use on a card? I actually love orange and teal! Do you know what a teal pumpkin means? Putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep means you have non-food treats available, such as glow sticks or small toys. This simple act promotes inclusion for trick-or-treaters with food allergies or other conditions. You can even add your address to a map to signify that you are a safe place to trick or treat for those who have food issues! Check out FARE here for more info.

Today's teapot challenge will touch your heart! Let's all dig through our card stashes and see if we can help out these dear ladies!!! For all the info check out MMTPT532!

Another nice new “tradition” is All Hallow's Read - I think the novelist Neil Gaiman started the idea but I wouldn’t swear to that but he certainly endorses it. At this time of year you’ll find people on Twitter sharing news of the piles of books they’ve managed to put together to give out to trick or treaters (often by collecting them at yard sales and thrift shops through the year) and later in the month being thrilled when kids actually choose a book rather than candy in some cases!

Angie and Joanne, I love these newer traditions for trick-or-treating! Both are news to me and I love them! TFS.

Wow! I love the idea of giving away books! I LOVED books as a child but didn't have many of my own. I am sad that living out where we do we never have a trick or treater. It would be so fun to set out a teal pumpkin and give away books!!!

I took a look at today's sketch gallery and the cards are fabulous! The main layer looks wonderful with a bold sentiment like Dawn used and the tilted layer looks quite fabulous in a shape like Cathy created. You can find the SC717 challenge HERE.

Are you creating today?

I am working on my Artist Trading Coins. I think I have completed all the backgrounds needed now it's time to stamp!
