I used Acrylic Block stamping on my card for this week's Featured Stamper.

Have you used this technique?

If so what do you like and dislike about it?

I love the results. Love the color blending. But this was not my first try. I actually did it a couple of times before I had the colors the way I wanted. One thing I don't like is how hard it is for me to get the block stamped straight on the cardstock.

I think it's a near technique but I can never get the right amount of water. I'm very timid when it comes to needing to add water to anything.

Angie, in answer to your question, I quite like the acrylic block stamping technique but don't think to use it very often. I used it for last Monday's CAS "Bands of Colour" challenge, but as you said, it can take more than one try - for that card, my first attempt came out way too pale, so I had to do it again, making sure to add a lot of ink to the block. And I too find it hard to get it stamped straight, so my solution there was to trim it and frame it.

The TLC challenge is up - Foiled Images. I don't have foil or a laminator or the foil transfer gel shown in the video, so probably won't play along.

Hopefully the CAS challenge will be something I can do.

If you don’t have something like gilding flake that you could substitute, why not play with the other sort of foil? I think you guys use the same name as us on this side of the Pond - kitchen foil. Stick it to some scrap cardstock and it embosses really well. You can use an ink like Stazon or Brilliance to stamp it. Years ago I did a scrunching thing with it and added alcohol ink that gave a pretty effect - hang on and I’ll see if I can find it in the gallery...

Foiled again (and eek to the fact it’s over a decade ago!)

I like acrylic block stamping but don't often do it. I should use it more...it's MUCH easier with DOX inks than regular distress IMO. I use a Stampamajig to position my block so I don't have a problem getting it straight for a one layer card, but I would have suggested Susan's solution of die-cutting a panel to get around the issue.

I definitely have gilding flakes and should have a couple of sheets of gold leaf. But I have to try to catch up with housework when I get home so I don't think I'll get anything done today. I was asked if I could switch my day off so I'm in work tomorrow...I'd been hoping to leave some of the housework till then. No way it can wait till Thursday, so it's today or bust.

Wow! I was hoping that by mentioning I couldn't stamp the block straight someone would have an answer for that! What a great idea Sabrina and DUH! Pretty simple! I will try that next time. I really liked the look of the DOX on the acrylic block!

And Boo, Hiss on having to work and cleaning but both are necessary.

Hmmmm....is the CAS challenge not up? I am not seeing it but people are playing along. Is everyone getting the info off the cards already posted or is there something off on my end and I can't see the challenge?

It does look like it's Repeat Stamping.

For Teapot Tuesday Anita has us bringing our own cups to the party: MMTPT551~February 12, 2019~ Bring your own cup to the party - Splitcoaststampers . The destination is Hotwheels, we're sending blank cards that she can use in her card ministry.

And the colour combination is an early peek at balmy days: CC726 - An EARLY PEEK at BALMY days (2/12/19) - Splitcoaststampers

I coloured the image for one of my TPT cards while I was sick . Yesterday is the first day I was able to stay up till after dinner (yay), but I did go to bed pretty soon after dinner, and coloured another cute cup image so I'm hoping to make another card for my own stash today or tomorrow.

Sabrina thanks for posting!

I have been creating with cups a lot lately! I love cups!!

Sabrina your samples are fabulous! I never would have guessed you were sick! Stunning both of them!

So here is my question: How many cup stamps do you own?
I am not sure. I don't have my stamps organized in such a way that I could find out so easily but I have more than 5 and I have at least 4 die sets.

Without actually looking, I can only think of one cup stamp, a House Mouse image, and two cup dies. I used to have others but they have all been passed along over the years. I would like to participate and send some cards along this week. We shall see. My dad fell a week ago and broke a hip so all of our time has been taken up in being with him and making rehab arrangements. Life happens...

We got back from Vegas just before 2 this morning. The internet at the hotel was so bad, I didn’t try uploading the cards I made. Now, my Tuesday is Monday... maybe I can get a card made in between loads of laundry.

I have a couple of House Mouse images with a cup & a Tim Holtz set, not very many cup stamps here.

I think I only have one cup stamp set, but just ordered the tea and cup set from SU on Saturday. I may wait until it gets here to do a card for hotwheels.

First of all, Claudia I'm so sorry about your dad . I hope he makes a good recovery.

How many cup stamps? I think there are a couple in a Rubbernecker tea set Mothermark gave me. There's one in Pun Fun. There's the Slothy Coffee I got recently. Two years ago when Toni featured coffee for a WTUI challenge I allowed myself to be majorly enabled and bought the Stampendous backgrounder I used on one of my cards this week, and an IO and a Prickly Pear clear set. I have an Art Neko teacup, which I coloured in bed last night and will upload later. I have a SNSS digi of Cocoa with a big cup of hot chocolate, but it's Christmassy, as are my Purple Onion "Cups of Joy". Then there's a Unity stamp of a girl holding a mug. Off the top of my head that's it...I think my PTI set is just teapots and sentiments. I used to have a willow pattern one but I purged it somewhere along the way.

Off the top of my head, I think I have about 6 images of either just a cup or a cup as part of the image, 2 of them are specifically Christmas.

Vancouver is having an usual amount of snow so I'll be at home most of the day, and will have to go out a few times to shovel off the front and back steps, front path, and public sidewalk in front of my house. Good exercise but hard on the aging back so I'd rather do it a few times than do it when it gets really deep. My plan while I'm inside is to get all of my dies organized in plastic sleeves and labeled (without getting distracted to make a card!!).

I have 2 really pretty cups from Impression Obsession....I haven't used them in quite a while....should get those out. I also have a PTI set. And I have some really fun ones form Character Constructions that have a steampunk man in one cup and a lady teapot...really cute.

More snow today... This is getting old. My niece and her BF left for Mexico this morning...wish I were with them..

Sorry about your dad Claudia. Sending him good wishes.

I'm in the same camp as Stacy, lots of cup stamps and a few dies. Between all those stamps and perfect coffee or tea colors, I better get stamping for the Teaparty!

Claudia, sending healing prayers and wishes to your dad.

Hi friends!

I spent much of last week with a lousy cold. I made and uploaded a couple of cards. Made a baby card for today's CC, but I can't get a decent picture. My arms are feeling a bit weak, so I keep twitching and getting blurry photos. No biggie; I'll upload tomorrow.

Yesterday, I finally made a card for the All Posters IC (2/2). I knew what I wanted to do, but couldn't find a particular stamp set. It wasn't misplaced; just near the bottom of a large stack of SU sets, and I guess I didn't recognize the title (had only used it once before). Lots of copper embossing, so the glare tonight is awful! LOL

I'm also working on cards for the Dirty Dozen. Such a fun theme, but I can't give it away.

I'll catch up on the chatter that I missed later tonight. And hopefully spend some quality time commenting in the gallery.

Kim, I shake too. So I rarely hold my camera anymore. Only the ones that are taken from above do I hold. I place my camera on a surface straight across from my card. Right now I use a ladder. LOL It's exactly the right height for where I place my photos for staging but before that I had the card on the table and the camera on the table. A small tripod is very handy so you can slightly angle the camera downward but currently, I just have it on the step ladder.

The sketch is pretty! I tried it last night but I wanted to use a certain image and I couldn't get it to work. Not the sketches fault! Just my image wasn't right or I was too tired. I hope to play with the sketch later!

All the cups floating around SCS!!! We all like cups!

Polly and Susan, yikes on all the snow!! Friends on FB are posting so much snow!

Claudia, I am so sorry about your dad!

Oh! Kim, just two more days for new Dirty Girls and a new theme! Can't wait to see what you have been working on!

Well, it's Valentine's day for Steve and I because I will be gone all day tomorrow and he just happens to have today and tomorrow off! We don't do much but we do enjoy going to eat and just enjoying our friendship together! I love celebrating as often as possible so Valentine's Day is a good excuse!!

Does anyone have a question?

Good morning!
Lots of sunshine today, though it is still quite windy and cold. But with the sunshine, I had lots of natural light to take pictures.

Angie, I have a mini tripod, but I struggle with it. Either I need to tilt my camera and the whole thing tips because of weight, or I can't adjust the legs properly. So, on sunny days like this, I set up my card on our dining room table with my white table cloth backdrop, and prop my camera either on a kleenex box or my Cafe Vienna tin! When I tried last night, I had cards on my printer, which is pretty big, next to my laptop. It puts the card quite a bit higher than in my dining room. I managed to get a decent pic on Saturday for the IC card, but it's not the best for me. Photography is NOT my strong suit! LOL

As I was reading, I was confused about all of the cup talk, then saw it was for the teapot challenge. I have one solo stamp from Hobby Lobby; not sure of the specific brand. I also have Tea Shoppe set from SU which I really like. The stamp with 3 cups is great for color challenges when I have no idea what to do! LOL

I made a big mess in my room yesterday. Need to complete 2 other DD cards today and get them all uploaded. Then I can clean up. My other goal is to finish off a set of 12 Christmas cards which have been a work in progress for ages. I bought this cute Christmas storage box where I will put my completed Christmas cards as I go along throughout the year. Maybe watching the box fill up will keep me motivated.

Off to check the sketch and put some tunes on for a (hopefully) fruitful day.

Watching a box of Christmas cards fill up through the year is very satisfying. Not much from me today as I was visiting my aunt and sorting out some computer problems for her. I did get a card put titogeth this morning before I left, using one of the images I coloured when I was sick last September or October. My goal this week is to use all the images I coloured this time, so that they're not lying around for months. I'm really bad at using images I coloured ahead of time.

So my question is do you like to have pre-coloured images on hand or do you create better starting from scratch. Definitely the latter for me, even for VSN.

Duh, I should have realised it was dumb to start a reply in between my old hometown and the next one. There are so many tunnels that the internet cover keeps disappearing. Thank goodness I was able to copy my post quickly before it refreshed and proofed.

Enjoy your early Valentine's, Angie

I like to have images colored before hand IF I know what the challenge is. I like to go through the CAS DT calendar & get my images for a couple of months stamped out. I can take them to the range & start coloring. If I don’t know what the challenge entails, I’d rather start off fresh.

Good question, Sabrina. I like to have a stash of backgrounds on hand, but I only ever colour an actual image when I know I'm going to make a card with it.

No stamping time today at all - out most of the day, home to check email and walk /feed my dog and then going out for dinner with a friend who is in town.

I'm not a sketch challenge fan so am now looking forward to seeing what tomorrow's Ways to Use It challenge is as I'll have some spare time tomorrow.

Since NOEL is a four letter word, you should be able to make a Christmas card for the we WT challenge, Susan. I used HOPE for mine. Still got to upload it, I had something to eat and went straight to bed when I got home last night.

Sabrina, that is a great question! I SO admire those that stamp and color ahead of time. It takes me a while to come up with a design so I get pretty immersed in every one of my creations. When I leave my art room I try to focus on all the things I have to do and I let that become my "down" time away from the art room. At this time part of my issue is that I can't see well so I really can't take colors and coloring supplies and color just anywhere. I can't even take my stuff and color in the living room because there is not enough light. I need mega light and a flat surface close to my face! Since I think about coloring, art, design whenever I am home, I use my away time as a mindfulness thing and just try to BE where I am. Having said that though, I am in total awe of all those that can color on the go. If I could color on the go I think I could create more!

I am not much of a colorer to begin with, but my DH is a pastor and he likes to keep some cards on hand to send to church members. I sometimes stamp a bunch of lighthouses and take them to swim meets or practices where I am a captive audience anyway.
I keep boxes of leftover images or other elements and occasionally pull them out, sort by color then try to make cards using these up. Just did this recently when I clened off my desktop and cutting area. This tends to be more strips and bits of paper, but I also end up with baggies with butterflies, hearts, flowers, leaves etc.
On my way to Chicago via train to spend the weekend with my dad who just had his hip replacement surgery yesterday.

Sabrina, you now know me too well! Of course I made a Christmas card for Ways to Use It - and I have the word Noel on it!!!

I'm so sorry to hear you are having such problems with your vision, Angie. But I'm glad you're still able to make cards.

More snow predicted for us this afternoon so I'm heading out to walk my dog before it starts.

I cleared all that off into an accordion file (which won't shut now) and will put the larger bases and fronts into my paper drawers by color.
I was able to take a bunch of the pinks, reds and my box of Valentine embellishments over to the Recovery home where I volunteer to make cards with the residents. So I was thinking it was worth the effort.

Kim, I totally get the tripod thing. I use one now and then. I like the angle I can get but it also doesn't screw on right so it gives me a crooked photo! Oh, the trials! LOL I would rather create then photograph that is for sure!!! I am glad you have a good solution for most days!! I hated to think of you struggling daily with the photography!
