Happy Thanksgiving to all of you down in the U.S.! For us up in Canada, it's a normal day. So I had time to post a card for today's challenge - needed a card not a container, so went with an image that includes a box.

Sabrina, I am very lucky indeed! He didn't always cook but he does a little more all the time. He could tell I was a little overwhelmed. Sweet man. I made some green sides and they were yum but no alas no romaine salad! He tried a new yam recipe and it was yum. Seth made cookies as the only sweet we had was pumpkin pie so he decided we needed cookies. A happy day!

I popped by both of your galleries, Sabrina, and Susan! Such cute cards!!!

So fun of you to mention our chat thread!

Misti, I hope you had a lovely day. I just realized you are REALLY outnumbered in your house! All guys!!!

The Free For All Challenge is up and it's western-themed.

I don't actually have any western stamps. There is a sweet image of cowboy boots and flowers from Unity Stamp Co. which I was looking at during Unity's 55% off sale but I don't think I bought it. How about you? What is your favorite western themed image?

Hmmm... I’m not sure I have any western themed stamps. Will have to think on this.

I have an old MFT Fred Bear cowboy who usually does me for any Western theme, and a Serendipity stamps cowboy boots. I also have the Unity one of a boot with flowers in it. And, hmm, I think I have a TCP set with a slight Western feel too, and some a Serendipity stamp with big pots. And Carla sent me a super Stampendous silhouette stamp of a cowboy on horseback this year, because she knows how much I love the faux stamped leather technique. There's an option for you, Angie - and Misti! It's s fab tutorial, and it's what I used for my little tote bag. Do it with a paisley stamp or a cactus or feather and you're sorted.

Here's a favourite Western card I made for Susie's Tickle a Teapotter challenge a couple of years ago...featuring Fred Bear and with a little owl from the TCP set: MMTPT436 Fred's Full Moon Saloon...

I have to work this afternoon so I probably won't get any stamping time till after dinner. But I'll be checking at lunchtime to see if the MIX has been posted...I always like a little time to think about a challenge and let it brew in my brain.

And as well as the faux stamped leather, the Bandana/bandanna technique (search the TLC forum for the tutorial) is great for a Western look. Sorry for not linking...about to get ready for work.

Good ideas Sabrina.

Here is the TLC bandanna technique:

There's always a Western landscape or sunset. Have a cactus stamp?

I knew if I mentioned that I didn't have any western stamps someone at SCS would have a great suggestion for the challenge! Such an awesome group of stampers here at SCS!

The MIX is up and it's a fun one. I may not get to play today but I am definitely filing this one away for some upcoming card creations!

Where do you get your stencils?

I don't have any real cowboy or western stamps so I used a horse stamp for the Free for All and got that posted.

The MIX challenge looks like fun but I have no more time for crafting today, so like you, Angie, I'll file it away for later.

The Inspiration Challenge is up!!! Brenda is our hostess and our site publishes exquisitely designed paper products. You will find loads of inspiration today.

Caspari has gorgeous napkins which made me wonder, have you used any napkin techniques on your cards? I believe the Felted Cardstock tutorial is the one my friend Janeenk has used to make gorgeous cards.

Angie, I can't remember if I once used the napkin technique or not on a card. Seems I did but, if so, a long time ago. I remember a girl on a blog I visited a lot used to use that technique and make beautiful cards.

I do love the Caspari site and it has so much so super inspiration for Christmas cards and others, too. I LOVE making Christmas cards and I loved using one of Dina's stamp sets.

Brenda, your card is stunning! I love all the white space around your gorgeous pine cones! Wonderful site!!! I had several photos selected for inspiration and tried out a couple of things but what with the crazy hours of my kiddos this week, my ideas didn't translate to paper well. LOL I finally ended up with one I was happy with.

I love being introduced to the Caspari site. I want to buy a bunch of gift wrap, but I'm reigning myself in! I love the paper and bags with the snowboarding dogs and cats : ). Didn't choose that as my inspiration though because I am in need of a sympathy card, so chose something else. Maybe later in the week...

TLC718 is Lever Cards. I got the most lovely one in the mail recently from Karen (Chinook). I think, from looking at some other ones in her gallery, that she has the ODBD die, but I found it easy to make using the onsite tutorial - and I've been seeing them pop up quite a bit in the gallery recently so I thought it would be a fun one to feature.

Sorry for being MIA from the chat here- when I got home on Friday and found our guest had gone to spend the weekend with her sister I just went to bed and slept - with a brief coffee break when DH got home - till well after I should have started making dinner . Saturday was pretty much the same, and Sunday we were leading worship in another church. I always reckon life's too short to play catch-up so I won't go into paper napkins! I'd love to make a pearly card, but, ha, we know what happened to my blocks of colour. Maybe this evening, though - just got the last bit of housework to finish off and I'm pretty well caught up with samples for upcoming challenges. Phew...

Yes here at SCS we really don't need to play catch up, every day is a new challenge!!! Sabrina, I am so glad you and Misti posted challenges today. I was gone 11 hours today. My day started out so innocently. A dental appointment and a few errands since I had the car. Sheesh eleven hours later..............

it's too early for Tuesday Challenges so I will tidy up a few things and I will be back in the morning, I might even have a question!

I wasn't actually thinking of challenge catch-up, though life's too short for that too unless there was one I was really interested in and just couldn't find the time for. I was more apologising for not catching up with the chat .

Well, we traded in our '05 car for a newer '11 one which was delivered yesterday, so hopefully it will turn out to have been a good buy. We need a station wagon for camping and for transporting my keyboard and a portable PA system, but I'd prefer a smaller car myself. Not really looking forward to my first drive in it.
Weatherwise yesterday was awful...still dark when I left for work and heavy rain. There were high winds...Dublin port was operating under restrictions , and I had trouble pulling open the door into work!! Today I have already managed to make my coffee into the drip-tray and turn the knob off so far that I'd turned the steam wand on . But for those with more energy and creativity, here's today's sketch challenge:

Sketch Challenge 725 {11/28/18} - Splitcoaststampers

I like ones with circles. They were the first set of Spellbinders dies I bought, as it was so hard to cut my own.

I must be going nuts! I swear I wrote a comment about your new avatar Sabrina....out with the Thanksgiving avatar and in with the brollies. I guess it is not a good time to mention we are having 30c on the weekend.

Love the sketch!!!

Wow, Sabrina sounds like mean weather out there. I hope the station wagon runs well for you. I wouldn't enjoy driving such a long vehicle either but on the other hand, I got VERY used to my van and MISS it SO much. Sounds like you definitely need the space.
It's a very cold 29F here. We don't get many days below freezing here so it's a weather event. LOL

Susie I had to look up what 30C equals to F and it's a very warm 86 for you! I really wouldn't want 86 at this point but 50 would be nice.

Ok, Sabrina you sparked my question for the day.

What was your very first die purchase?

I believe my first die purchase was Spellbinders Ovals. I bought a glass cutting board and a circle ruler thing so I thought I could cut my own circles but ovals I could not so Ovals were my first. And Oh, The glass board and circle cutter did not go well for me. I think I watched Kristina Warner use it and she was a pro but for me...ugh! Circle dies came next!! LOL

I didn't think of it before I hit send but along with the question above, what is your most often used die?

For a while, it was banners I bought from MFT called Fishtail Flags but now my most often used dies are rectangles for layering. I have 2 sets. One set was a really good buy but I lost one of the dies I use often. Then I bought a Hero Arts infinity set and for some reason, the rectangles don't cut evenly, which makes me sad. So I am once again on a hunt for a full set of rectangle dies that don't cost $60.00!

I haven't been working on challenges lately, but have been reading these posts. My first dies were Spellbinders Circles to use with my Cuttlebug. I think ovals came next.

I bought that circle die and glass mat, or got them as a gift. I really struggled with these. I still own them, but they are deep in a storage drawer, I think. I cut my finger with the circle cutter, then for some reason cut my finger on the glass mat, where an indention was made.

I own the Fiskars shapes where you use this hand held cutter to go around the shape. I can use that much easier than the circle cutter. It is never used anymore either.

I now use my Big Shot Plus machine daily it seems. When Christmas cards are finished, I may go back to challenges.

Oh my...I had that Fiskars system and I did even use it recently for an oval that was bigger than any of my dies. I can't bring myself to purge the templates because I think they should work for something else. I also had one of those compasses that cut a curcke...but there was always a peirced hole in the centre so you had to use them very strategically.

Most used dies? Probably, actually, those circles! And birds and butterflies. I enjoy fussy-cutting so don't buy a lot of matching dies. I'd like another set of squares, but I don't know if the SB set I have is the large or small so I don't know which one I need...or even if they still make them. Sadly...or maybe good for our budgets... rectangular ones based on the US A2 size are the wrong proportion for all of us metric crafters. I think the SB card creator dies look fantastic, but am not prepared to source all my card and envelopes from the US. So I have one set of Cheery Lynn metric A5 nesting rectangles and make do with those.

I'm pretty sure my circle dies from spellbinders were my first. Most used recently were the mini doily dies from MFT but mostly I use regular shapes. I do have a love for stitched or pierced.

That should have been metric A6 rectangles. Too tired today to do my calculating.

Hello everyone...happy Thursday or Wednesday...I am enjoying reading this thread...makes our little big community feel cozy. I am waiting for glossy accents
to dry...for my ‘Whykickamoocow’ and Sketch Challenge. It’s interesting to see and read about the dynamic regarding combining the challenges...I find for me, that if something doesn’t align perfectly (this is a Virgo) here, wink, I usually try to combine it with the next challenge. Not easy for me for some unknown reason! I have a whole mixed media pad full of WIP’s. Waiting for their debut. I am slower now to...guess it is wanting everything to be just right. I just know when it has gotten there. Anybody else feel that?

I worked on a challenge card today! I often use the Mod Squad Challenge which comes out on Wednesday, and today's challenge was a Christmas card with a critter. I used the sketch challenge to make the card. Here is my card if you want to take a look: SC725 Merry Christmas with Doggy by lovinpaper - at Splitcoaststampers

Not my favorite, but it will work. My patterned paper was cut for another card and this was the left over, so I used it on this one. It was good to use items from my stash.

Lisa your pup is adorable! So glad you linked up your card for us to see!

I haven't tossed my circle die or glass mat either! It's still here, waiting for I don't know what!

Sabrina, I smiled at the metric comment. I remember being in the 4th grade when we were taught to use the metric system. I thought the plan was that the US was supposed to move to it but it never happened. My 4th-grade brain (never good at math) didn't get it so I wasn't unhappy when all of a sudden we were no longer learning the metric system. In your shoes, I wouldn't buy inch ruled rectangles either. I can't seem to cut straight no matter what cutter I buy so I need a good set of rectangles!

I have always been slow at creating, Susan. I still go to my artist in residence now and then for pointers on finishing cards. I don't know what I am going to do if she goes off to college next year! Yesterday she pointed out my background needed a pop of color in my photo staging and she was RIGHT! I will link that card tomorrow!

Ang I'm glad you didn't chuck your glass mat out. It makes a great surface for wrinkle free distress, mixing alcohol inks, mono printing with paint or ink sprays that usually stain. Easy clean up with baby wipe.

Did you know that only three countries in the world don't use the metric system....USA, Liberia and Myanmar. We slowly transitioned from imperial to metric between 1970 until 1988. To this day I still relate better to inches than centimetres.
