Default Cards without Stamps?!?!?!?!

I went into a local scrapbook store that I usually go to, and there was a sign saying that they were looking for people to do card-making classes. Well - I thought that I could do that, so I asked about it.

They said that I would have to use their supplies (logical) and I would charge what I thought was reasonable and they would pay me directly. Ok, I thought - where are your stamps. They said, "We don't have any". What!?!?!

Then I wondered - how would you make cards without stamps??? Any ideas?

Default cards

Look in one of the Paper Craft magazines and they have lots of ideas using stickers! You might want to use an embossing pen for letters and verses.

Also, if you look at some scrapbook web sites they have ideas using just stickers and punches.

Just when I think I'm getting pretty good at card-making, I find out that I've hit the tip of the iceberg!

Oh well - sounds like more to learn now!

If they carry brass templates (dry embossing) and punches you can do cards with those as well. Patterned paper is also a great card accent.

Hi,

You could use the OSW concept but apply it to decorative paper instead.

I took a class at Hobby Lobby and that is what we did... Very different from the cards that were on display, I was a little disappointed... I did like the concept of what we did though

I'd never seen the OSW concept at the time, and when I told my dau, she told me that there were lots of OSW ideas out there.... After joining SCS, I now know what she means.....

We used 2 co-ordinating papers on the front, and hid/covered the diagonal line with ribbon. Then placed wording across the ribbon.. We had solid colour cardstock, 2 printed papers and ribbon. Don't remember if we used a glue stick, or double stick tape..... Very simple and elegant...

We did have stamps for the wording, but there is a myriad of printed sayings and verses out there, that I'm sure you could find something without using any stamps...

Good Luck and have fun....

I made some at a class with computer printed text like - "thank you" on vellum, and background papers so no stamps were used. Punched daisies too.

Make flowers using only mulberry paper.

Flowers from different cut shapes made with a circle and straight edge cutters.

Cut a circle in half for a lady bug body, do the same for the head and draw in legs and antennas. Also draw a heart on the body (Valentines Day) or spots or simplify this and use stickers in place of drawing.

Watermelon can be made from circle cutter also.

Collect leaves and flowers, press into stamp pad then onto cardstock.

Weave paper and add some type of embellishment.

I have some pictures if it’ll help but keep in mind some of them I did when I first started making cards and I’m much improved since then.
I’ve also done Donna’s idea.

do this all the time! you could prolly look at the bazzill website for some ideas, they offer lots of card classes and don't have stamps.

basically, you use lots of patterned papers and embellishments! direct to paper is also very popular with this. instead of phrase stamps, you use handwriting, rub-ons, die-cuts and pre-printed vellum.

i'm not big on stickers and don't think i've ever used one on a card (unless you count the ones out of my xyron! hahaha). but die-cuts and punches are very versatile.

i took a bazzill class last night, made five great cards, didn't use a single stamp. at one of my lss, we see a lot of scrapbookers get into cards this route--everything is a lot more familiar than learning to stamp.

one of our lss offers cards class all the time and they are never with stamps, there are some great cards out there. I have taken a few of the classes and always loved them. We have used different patterned paper, die cuts (quickcuts) jolies, printed vellum, even cardstock type stickers. These cards can be a lot of fun too.

Do this all the time! Just use all my regular scrapbooking stuff! Various patterened papers, stickers, diecuts, charms, ribbons, etc!!

You could paint on the card, add some metal charms (like the Making Memories line). Or use the slide mounts - those are soooo cute!

This is fun! Think outside the box - I'm sure you'll blow the socks off the students.

Enjoy!

That would be more of a scrapbooking style of card making. It is what I started with as an extension of my scrapping. That led me to stamping!

Here is one I just did. Now I did stamp a greeting inside, but most of my cards I leave blank.

Iris folding is my suggestion. I took a class for a local stamp store. We made two cards and embossed a saying under the iris folding. You could use a Versamark pen to make any saying. Just a thought. Oh yeah, the lady that taught the class had us use different colors of wrapping paper. The cards came out beautiful. I paid $15 for the class that lasted about 2 hr.

Default cards without stamps

I use my Quickutz dies ALL the time for making cards - no need for stamps - as the have mini fonts, too!

There are so many fun dies to use - it is totally addicting!

Tea bag folding could work too. You must be very proud for being asked to teach a class--that is a nice honor!

WOW - I really appreciate all the excellent ideas! I love making cards and I Scrapbook. (Notice that I didn't put the love with the scrapbooking!) A friend of mine said that I had to not think of making cards as a stamper, but as a scrapbooker. I guess that's the problem!

Anyway, I'll have to look at cards in a whole different light! There are so many wonderful ideas! Thanks so much for all your input!!!!

I made a cute card at an LSS. We cut denim print paper like a pocket and added gel pen stitching. (The whole time I was thinking about Pocket Fun). We embellished with stickers, die cuts and even hand written sentiments. We attached the pocket with glue, but you could use eyelets or brads. We had some wire coming out of it. The end had been twisted around a pencil tip and made tight enough for our hand written sentiment to slip between the coils.

If you can, go out and buy Joy of Card Making it is a magazine that just came out and it is AWESOME for just this thing!!! Tons of recipes that use paper and embellishments...soooo coool!!!! I highly reccomend it. Especially if you can go to Michaels or ACMOORE and get it 40% off... it is pricey, 14.95! But even full price there are tons of great ideas on layouts, embellishments and paper uses!

Scrapbooking has really 'taken over' the card genre really... Since I'm a stamper and not a scrapper (although I love to look at scrap stuff!), it sometimes makes me a bit annoyed to see so many cards with no stamping! LOL! (Hey! I did buy Joy of Cardmaking!) I often times look at those non-stamped cards and try to figure out how I could use the same ideas but incorporate some stamping into it! I esp. think those rub-on letters are cheating! hehe. It's nice to see both stamping and scrapping being incorporated into new card ideas.

I'm so glad it's not just me!!! I know the cards with just scrapbooking techniques are really pretty - they just seem missing something! Oh well - I guess I won't be teaching any classes on stampless cards.
