I definitely had so much fun playing with the Valentine set in the demo preview. Though I'm sticking with my SU marker over the copics.

I just don't see the point in buying so many expensive markers when I have 48 wonderful ones that match perfectly with my SU paper and accesories.

I just posted a card in my gallery today where I used the SU markers on watercolor paper! Wow! I think they look as vivid as the copics. I know there are ways to blend them and everything, but I haven't got to that point yet....

Yep, I've been doing this as well. There are some samples on my blog with the su markers and watercolor paper.

Someone posted a tutorial on their blog about a way to use SU markers with alcohol to get the "copic" look - I'll see if I can find it - but I agree that the markers are already pretty vivid.

Thanks for posting this! I'll be adding the watercolor paper to my next order! I love my markers and can't wait to try this.

For those who use the watercolor crayons, do you only use them with the watercolor paper as well? I've been wanting to get these, but I want to get everything on one order so I can use them right away!

You can use them without watercolor paper, but if you use too much water the paper will curl, and sometimes start to break down. Watercolor paper is definitely your best bet though IMO. It's just much easier.

OMG this is so funny that you are all talking about this- I got Renee's details about a month or so ago, bought some watercolor paper and finally stamped/colored a picture using the few markers I have and I loved the look. So today- I was going to order copics and decided that I would instead spend my money on SU markers. I tried on regular paper and it just didn't look the same............ the watercolor paper is exp but worth it.

I've used my WCC on all kinds of paper.

I'm having a "stamping block" what is a good color to go with Tempting Turquoise? I'll admit I'm "Bold Brights" challenged!

I'd used yellow ( summer sun--earth family) and also the gagle green ( Bold Brights).

Love the card and idea. Since we have a farm, I love finding little ideas like this.

is anyone on this thread thinking of signing up to be an SU demo? I was one, and am going back and forth on my decision. I think I've finally decided to join in January. Yikes!

Not to complicate your decision Joan but if you wait until Feb you can get an additional set free (up to 47.95 value)

Yes and no. I'm painfully shy and the thought of having to be "out there" making contacts terrifies me. But I do spend a small fortune on SU every month so the discount would be nice.

How's the craft room renovation coming?

I know I can get an extra set if I wait until January. But, that would mean acting like a mature adult, and duh, that is so not me when it comes to stamping!!

And, about the craft room!! Well, I'm still cleaning it. I've managed to collect 2 huge boxes of goodies that I gave away on my blog and threw out 2 huge garbage bags of trash.

Very sad state. So much easier to keep things organized when I just bought SU, which is one of my motivating factors. Ugh, I am horrible at making decisions!

If you spend the money anyway, I say go for it! I'm amazed at how easily I've met my minimums so far. Loving the discount. And I really haven't had to get out there. I was lucky enough to stumble on a couple of customers that meet my minimums for me. They aren't spending loads of money (yet.. they are going to love the new catty) but they spend enough that I don't have to if I don't want to (which is never).
My only regret is that I didn't join earlier. I wish I could have 20% of all the money I spent on SU before I became a demo!

I think selling any product really depends on the area in which you live, how much you are willing to stretch yourself, whether you want to sell on line, your personality, and plain luck.

Some demos are incredibly successful and many quit within a year. The determining factors seem to be hard work, location, and luck, IMHO!

However, I keep thinking about the first hostess order and the 30% off. That's a pretty sweet deal -- if you like the product. I figure that I can sign up in January, get the starter kit. In Feb, use the 30% and get what I want and SAB sets. Don't need to spend another dime until July.

Then I can stay or quit.

I still haven't seen the new catty and that will be the final deal maker for me. I'm hoping to love it...

Hi! I was in the same position last year, and the Sell-a-bration promotion was what got me to jump right in. I figured if I was already spending about $100 a month on SU! I might as well get the discount. I was not planning on "selling" the stuff, but my neighbor was interested, so I did a beginner class for her and her daughters. They have kept me hopping ever since. I've only done 3 real workshops, and 5 technique classes (all but 2 have been in my home) and I met the "Stampin' Start" goals! I never expected to have more than $300 a quarter.
I have found customers in the weirdest places. I was admitted to the hospital last week (for an emergency surgery) and when the nurse asked me what I "did", I told her that I was a SU! demo. She was so excited! She is new in the area, loves SU! and didn't have a demo! I dug a business card out of my wallet, and told her to be sure to contact me and I'll invite her to my new catalog open house. I've taken my catalog to "browse thru" at the car garage, and another lady saw me looking at it, and asked me about it....again....a new customer. I make up my own business cards, and stamp a cute design on the front (as a background to the information). I really don't expect to earn a cruise or anything like that, but by selling SU! I get to buy more stuff, at lower prices, am able to order stuff from preview catalogs, and even some hostess items that I may or may not earn. I've earned plenty of free stamp sets too...which saves me money to spend on PUNCHES! I love the punches!!!! I have every one that is in the current catalog, and can't wait to get the new ones.
I hope you make the decision to sign up as a demo. And I hope it's everything you want it to be..... don't forget to sign up for the Demo side of SCS, too! I learn everything I need to know there! Best of luck to you!

I made a comment earlier, maybe on this thread, griping that my demo left town for Christmas, and me without my new catalog! Now here is my official apology (personal apology not needed since I didn't gripe directly at her). She went to a lot of trouble to have neighbors pick up the package, other customers arrange pick up and delivery, and yet other willing volunteers to deliver!
And I love, love, love the new catalog!

I just got a look at the new catty, and I love it too. I haven't read this whole thread, so I don't know what all has been mentioned, but here are a few things that I really like....

They have LOWERED the price of the whole set of markers. I've just started a marker club that my demo is doing (Hi Hope!) and since the price of the markers has gone down, that means we get more stuff for our $$!!

I love almost all of the hostess stuff...and I love that they give an option of getting paper instead of stamps!

I was really impressed with the new stamps, although I really wish they would mark them with a "n" like they do the new accessories so they're easier to spot!

The new accessories!! They are awesome! Sticky letters to add glitter and bling, new accents and elements, and new simply scrapping kits to name a few!

NEW PAPER! Did anyone else notice one of the new papers is almost exactly like the "Loves Me" paper from last year's spring mini? They've changed the colors, but several of the designs are the same.

There's a ton more, and I'm getting ready to submit my order to my demo so that she can place it first thing after the new year!

~K

P.S. Good luck Joan!! I think you'll love the new catty.

Did you know that you can just click on her name to the left of her post's and a drop down box will show an option to view gallery?

I know links are easier, but just in case you can do it that way too.

Well I got my catty yesterday! I have a second one on its way also (one for home and one for work and carpool lanes)!!

In fact, here is a piece of my "mini review", for what it is worth.

Hostess Sets:

Smart move! There is a prints pack designer series paper in wild wasabi, bashful blue, apricot appeal, pretty in pink and real red for a Level One hostess set. Wonderful idea. You get 60 6x6 sheets, 2 each of 5 double-sided designs. Brilliant idea and nice that they included Valentine's Day and spring colors. This is by far my favorite of the hostess benefits.

The rest of the hostess sets are fine, there is a Level 3 Simply Scrappin kit that many will like, but most of my stampin' buddies do not qualify for such a level.

My favorite stamp sets:

First, I like the fact that the prices range from 12.95 (13 sets) all the way up to Define Your Life at $47.95. At $12.95, even if you only love one of the stamps, you are getting a pretty good deal, given the price of wood mounted stamps these days.

Second, the sets themselves -- my fave is Text and Texture -- a set of 6 for $25.95. Three of the stamps are large phrases in a great font -- You & Me, Life is Good and Just Because. I'd actually use these sayings! The other three stamps are small blocks that are lines of words that coordinate with the bigger texts. You really need to see it to appreciate it (wink).

There's also a nice, clever, set called Best Kind of Friend, set of 7 for $20.95. It has a little vase made out of a phrase, and includes a set of stemmed flowers similar in style to Close to a Memory, only smaller, as well as some other stamps. The sample in the catty is very nice. I'm debating this one, because it is the vase and the stemmed flowers that I love, and as I try to do some "smart shopping" I'm wondering -- should I buy a set where 2/7ths of the set is fabulous and the rest is good, but not great? For the price (thinking of shipping and tax too) I have to think about this one, but I'm guessing it is going on my "buy" list.

I also really like a pair of sets, Mark the Date ($24.95) and Full Calendar ($16.95). Together you can make cute little calendars that fit right on cards. Full Calendar is simply a set of the 12 months, but they are in a nice font. Hmm. I wouldn't want one without the other, so again, I need to think -- how much will I use this? I think a lot!! It has versatility written all over it as you can use it for all sorts of holidays. I wish it included small numbers to fit into the circles on the calender. The sample in the catty uses Take Note rub ons for the number on the card, but rub ons don't last. Hmm. Another fun thing to ponder!

If you are looking for sports sets, there are a bunch of them for $12.95 each. My son isn't into sports at all, so these aren't for me but I think these are a pretty good value for you Moms of athletes -- too bad there are no MATH sets!! LOL

I haven't taken the time to compare this catty to the last one, but my overall impression is much more favorable. There are less alphabets (I can't help but wonder if clear alphas are just more popular), and less of the circle/dots that seemed to dominate the Fall/Winter catalog.

Not many new backgrounds -- although there is a nice twill. It is hard to compete on the background arena, when there are others available unmounted for about $10 (Cornish Heritage Farms comes to mind).

There are a bunch of new jumbo and regular wheels -- I unmount them and think that they are a steal! Great designs and cheap! Got to love cheap!

Glad to hear you have your new catty. I love mine. I can't wait to place my first order.

Thank you for starting the list of SU blogs only!

I love love love the new Catty. Every day I look at it I'm so thankful for being a demo. I trying to only order wedding stuff (I'm making my own invitations) and class supplies in January, and save my fun new stamp order for Feb. so I can make the most out of Sale-a-Bration.

There are great sets for coloring in so if you are into the copics, or true to your SU markers you will get a lot of chances to use them with these stamps.

A note on copic's being refillable as a selling point. The ones I have seen are 6 dollars a piece. I can get almost two SU markers for that price. I've had my SU markers since June, and each of them are still like new even though I use them all the time. Plus, how much is the reinker for the copics? So to have a finacial advantage over the SU markers you would have to use it through once, refill it, and dry up the copic again. KWIM? Not to mention that I think SU markers are a lot more fool proof, whereas copics require a little more finesse from what I have read.

not being a demo, I'm wondering, doesn't everyone have to pay to purchase these full catalogs unless you have a party. Someone mentioned a
complimentary copy?
