Linda, I've never mixed CE with Pearlex, but I'll go try it and let you know what happens However, I have mixed it with re-inkers to make colored "gloss" What happens is, when you use CE (I've used all of the ones that I highlighted red, they all work the same) and let it dry on top of a stamped image you'll get a raised, clear, almost epoxy sticker look.

Here's one where they filled in Santa's glasses to look like...well glass

I've heard of mixing Crystal Effects with Dazzling Diamonds to create your own "glitter glue". But I'm not sure about the Pearl Ex thing. And I agree, I think we could have an "Stampin' Up!" only forum, just like all the other company forums.

Pretty sure that won't happen as SU! won't pay member fees to promote themselves on a site like this when they have demonstrators and their own site to do that for them.

Default SU! and comparable products

Julie, thank you very much for the list of products that are the same as Crystal Effects.

When I was brand new at stamping, through a SU! demo, I felt very restricted to using SU! products. That's the point, for sure, but it's also nice to go into places like Michael's and be able to buy some comparable items (especially when your demo is out of town!). For example, it took me a while to figure out that Classic = dye and Craft = pigment. After a few months lurking here at SCS, I was much better educated (thank you, Everyone!).

Has anyone ever made a big chart of those comparable supplies? It might even be worth buying!

Well, they won't have to pay fees, cause we will keep this thread open for 'em. I just have been trying to make some of the scallop punch ornaments - which DP do you use? I used Winter brights, but mine don't look as cute as the examples I saw on scs - anybody had any experience making them?

I am happy to see a thread that wants to talk just SU products!

I haven't made any ornaments, but I did use the Wintergreen paper inside of glass ornaments- see my gallery- and I think one of the benefits of wintergreen is that all of the papers, both sides, are close in coloration. Sometimes differences in tone or hue are good so you get lots of options in a package, but the Wintergreen is all so similar it works well for 'sets' of things- if I made yself clear!
that is, if you made 15 ornaments and hung them on a tree, they would just bit a little different; KWIM?

Bobbye~ I sure wish I could make tags... and use them! I think I've made them before, but never ended up using them. This year, I bought all of the wrapping paper (and I didn't throw the misprint away, lol!), so maybe I will really take the time to make tags! and now that there are directions for bows out there.... lol... maybe I will make perfectly matched presents!

Has anybody tried making the bows out of the paper so it matches?

I buy mostly SU, but usually end up buying eveything in the catalog before the end of the year- don't laugh at me ~ it's true! then I start to wander.

I haven't tried it yet (making bows), but my DSP came today, and I can't wait to try it. And I have some clear glass ornaments too, I will try that too!

hey Bobbye, do you think the colors in the ornaments should match, or contrast? I can't decide which DSP to use, and I didn't buy wintergreen - I don't think? did I?

I am thrilled to see this thread! SU! is my primary supplier. But I have just recently picked up a few stamp sets from other companies. Even so, my cs and ink pads are SU! I have a lot to learn and that's what I love about SCS. The challenges and new techniques have made me better. Not great, but better!

I'm a new SU demo, and I'm trying to reach my $1800 goal by the end of the month. Kinda close. I don't think I can offer anymore specials to get people to buy! LOL

I just used the new Holiday Harmony papers for the mini - really like that paper! I'll try to get the pictures posted tomorrow.

Just wanted to add that I've tried at least the Ranger Glossy Accents and it dries a little cloudy . . . not nearly so clear and lovely as SU Crystal Effects. i haven't tried the others . . . just a word of caution. I'd stick with SU's if you can.

Hmm, I have the Ranger glossy and it is drying clear. Perhaps your bottle is defective or got shaken up?

I too have the Ranger Glossy - and it dries clear... No problems. I actually much prefer it to the crystal effects because it's much easier to dispense from the type of bottle that crystal effects came in - at least a few years ago - I've been using Rangers Glossy for quite a few years now.

I know others said this earlier, but you can definitely emboss with the VersaMarker. I used it on this card because I didn't have an appropriate verse: http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=27632

This is a great thread, I am an all SU gal too and I love being able to talk SU only here.

Thanks for posting the link to the mostly SU blogs Emily, that is very helpful.

Mine is SU only too.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread, too. There are so many stamp companies that I get overwhelmed with the choices so I just stick to SU!. Plus, not that I love every single design in the SU catty, but I just don't care for a lot of the other companies' styles. SU just seems to satisfy me over all.

That would be quite an under-taking, but certainly possible for someone knowledgeable across the board in the industry, as well as SU! to do. . .

That's not a bad idea--it'd be a lot of work for someone to do just for the heck of it, but, if they could earn something for the time involved, it would be worth considering!

I have it. I got it to give as a gift to my daughter, but also to show at one of my workshops. I used my own cs to make card samples, and now I can't seem to get it in the box to send to her! I really love this set. The stamps are so versitle. I love the colors too. I may have to order another one...and this time, not open it.
The good thing about having it open is that every time I've shown it to someone, they have bought one or another of the Simply Sent sets.
The other good thing to mention is that for someone who is new to stamping, this is a great way to get started. It's a class in a box. Everything cut and ready to assemble. And even the stamps are die cut, so that makes mounting easy.
Yeah...I like the Simple Delights set. (Can you tell???)

The Simply Sent kits. I also try to make "starter" kits for my beginner stampers. I'll have samples of very easy cards to make, and then they can go from there.

My last tag that I made was a real challenge. I tried using the "Holy Triptych" one (the border stamp) and then use embossing powder. Clumsy me, I got my finger in the ep before I used the heat gun. But anyway, after embossed, I used an exacto knife to trim it close, and then used the corner punch on it and the background. Then, because the purple part wasn't right, I glued a 3/4 circle at the top of the tag, and then put in an gold eyelet, and used taffeta ribbon to cover all that up. What do you think?
