Default Britta - exactly how did you make this awesome card?!

Can you give us detailed instructions on this one - WCG2 & Canvas-Brayered Chalk Resist BG

http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...t=last1&page=3

Thanks *so* much - I want to make this one!!! I want to show my Stamp Camp tomorrow night - maybe not to make it, but to show what can be done!

Thanks in advance for your help!

yeah, spill!!!

You know, I almost never use black in cards but adding a layer here or there for contrast really is very pretty.
Got to keep thinking outside that same, old, dull, box!!

No problem-sorry I jus got back in or I would have answered sooner! LOL

I learned Brayered chalk resist from the TJ newsletter, but I modified it for this card.

The BG piece is glossy white, and I versamarked the canvas bg stamp onto the glossy white. I took my chalk ink petal and smooshed it gently around the pad, then switched colors (I *think* I used the blues, lavender, purple, pink, and red). Then I brayered over the whole thing and the brayer rolled and blended the colors somewhat (not completely since it is chalk and it dries quickly). Like regular vm resist the image of the canvas pops through when I buffed it.

For the main image I just used the chalk inks on regular white paper. I love that the lighter colors still show with the chalk ink on top. I just stamped repeatedly to change the tones. I also added VM and and embossed teh tiny petals on teh man image and along the bg, but that is really hard to see in the scan.

I think you could ABSOLUTELY show this at a workshop-all you need is the brayer, Glossy, inks, and VM or try it yourself. I have another card somewherein my gallery using Terrific Tulips and the same bg, it is just more subtle that this card.
Thanks for the compliments!

Britta, I sent you a PM, but wanted to put this in here too, in case someone else understands better than I do, or if someone has more questions like I do!

I'm sorry to bother you again, but I'm not understanding part of your instructions.

Ink up the Canvas stamp with VM and stamp on glossy cardstock
Now this is where I get confused. You said:
**********
I took my chalk ink petal and smooshed it gently around the pad, then switched colors (I *think* I used the blues, lavender, purple, pink, and red).
*********
So you used DTP with the chalk inks on top of the VM'd canvas? You said smoosh around the pad and I wasn't sure what that meant. It looks in the scan like there are some images from WCG II too. Do you DTP, then do the flower images, then brayer??

Do you heat emboss the background, or just tflowers that you applied VM to and the sentiment. What kind of ink did you use for the sentiment? Did you use chalk ink? Does it stay wet enough to emboss? Or could you stamp in Classic ink and then go over it with a Versamarker???

Sorry to be such a pest, but I want to make this card!

Thanks so much!

Susan

Susan - Thank you for asking that! I thought I was reading it wrong. This topic has been on my "watch" list since I saw the question this morning, and I was having trouble visualizing the technique as I read, I had the exact same question. It's SO pretty! I'd like to do it, too!!

here is the response I sent, I meant I smooshed the petal point all over the glossy paper that had already been VMed-sorry!

I VM'ed the canvas stamp 1st, then smooshed the pads over the VMed image. (I took the petal thing off the case and DTP the different colors all over. There was no other image before I brayered)
1. VM Canvas bg
2. smoosh different chalk colors around
3. Buff image and the canvas appears through

The WC images you see are done after the bg is brayered-just VM and irridescent ice ep. The bg image was not heat set (no need)-the only time heat was applied was to emboss the small images around

The love on vellum is stamped in regular classic ink-it stays wet enough to emboss with clear on the vellum

Hope that is more clear!

Wow! I tried and tried and couldn't copy it exactly (Lesson: Never try to copy the master!) but I finally got the technique to "work" for me. I don't have the Canvas BG or the Earth chalks, so it's a little different. I did three before I got the one that made the front match the background!

Britta - you are an "arteest!" (Spoken like Hollywood Monroe in the movie "Mannequin")

Duh - almost forgot the link:
