I was thinking today about my blind friends that I make cards for. I wondered if I sent in a suggestion to Provo Craft to make some Cuttlebug embossing folders with simple greetings in braille. You know like Get Well, Happy Birthday, Congratulations, etc. What made me think about this is the swiss dot folder. Why couldn't they do something in braille for us to use.

I sent a note to Provo Craft I will see what kind of response I get. Since I thought of it and if they go ahead with this product I should be rewarded with free stuff

I think it's a great idea. I have a braille writer (my DS and dad are both blind), so I do some writing inside their cards with braille already. Would be great for something for the front of the card....

My husband said only 10% of people who are blind actually read Braille. He is blind and is a state visual impairment councilor who works with people with visual and blind disabilities. I don't think there would be much of a market for them to make Braille folders myself. I just get out the ol' slate and stylus or the Perkins Braillewriter to make my messages in Braille on cards I make for our blind friends. In fact, I would rather make my own messages than rely on an embossing folder anyway because I can write whatever I want to than be limited to just what the company provides.
You have a good idea. But I think the demand of the folders is what they will consider.
Great idea!! My best friend is blind, and she enjoys the raised images I get with dry embossing - but that would be even better if there were folders with phrases or words written in Braille !

I think you might be surprised how it will sell. Not all of us has access to a braille writer. I was basically thinking about the front of the card with a simple greeting. If they could feel it, they would at least know we are sensitive to their capability. I also know that in most cases someone would read the inside. We will have to wait and see what Provo Craft says.

The resource teacher at school gave me this thing so I could put grades and such on blind students' papers. It is the size of two 8" rulers and is hinged at the end. The top is holes and the bottom is dimples. I use a stylus to make the bumps. I cheat by writing it on vellum and flipping it because the backwards thing is beyond me.
It would work for putting stuff on the front of cards.
I'm a teacher of blind and Vision Impaired and also a card maker. I currently die cut a tag out of braille paper and then use a glue tape to attach to large sheet of braille paper, roll into braille machine and then braille my greeting. I'd love a few embossing folders to do the hard work for me but doubt it'd be cost effective for anyone to produce them.
